Thread: Can you guys seriously not wait 30 seconds?

Greetings all,

I'm sure some of you guys have seen me around on Chilastria, or here on the boards. And I'm sorry, but I just have to ask. I know that it is just another dumb time sink, but I just find the amount of flames regarding the new timer incredible. Is our society that anxious that they cannot wait 30 seconds? 30 seconds is nothing. This change is saving us the need to make camps, but making it about the same as before. Those who said that they could set a camp up and call a pet in less than 30 seconds, I'd just like to see that. If anything, it takes more than 30 seconds for the normal Creature Handler.

I know that virtually no one that I play with carries camps on them at all times, they create one when they need it. That being said, it usually takes about a minute or so to go through the whole crafting, setting up, and calling a pet.

I'm not saying that I agree with the timer in any way. But can someone please tell me why this is such a heated topic. I say, great! I don't have to waste resources on camps and such.

You said it yourself, it's an un-needed time sink. And a penalty when your pet autostores, gets lost, or runs away; none of which we're causing.

I'll actually time a camp craft/drop/call and get back to you on what a CH can do. But I can craft camps waiting for the other silly time-sink, aka shuttle.

You've said it...it's a time sink. The "griefing" explanation is illlogical, and ignores other "griefing" techniques, like TKMs wandering around acting like noobs with "novice artisan" over their heads and then hitting a macro key and automagically donning 70% composite armor and equippinga vibro knuckler.

It's aimed at CHs alone, it seems, and the justification is intellectually dishonest.

I was one of the first Master CHs on Chilastria, so don't say I'm not even a CH. Plus, as you can see in my title, I am going for ranger at the moment (had to drop master scout a while ago for medic skills). Did I say anywhere that I cannot craft camps? No, actually, I said I can craft camps.

Yes, I agree with you Fantoq that it is another time sink. However, all I'm trying to point out, is that it is a VERY short time sink. What is 30 seconds really?

You do know that this not only affects CH's, but all professions. Calling vehicles, as well as non-ch mounts, and I believe faction pets as well [atst's and soldiers.] Any wait is a detractor to be honest. We play games to play games, not sit around waiting while reading a book.

I think it makes perfect sense. It's more realistic and even if you save a few seconds making a camp it's still a bother to alway have resources and such. I totally don't understand why people are so opposed to every change in this game. I thought that this change was great when I heard about it. Can't believe so many people are opposed to it. People waste so much time sitting around talking and doing nothing, I can't believe people are even going to notice. I really think people are going to find this to be an improvement. Not that anyone would admit to it, since most people are stuborn teenagers here I'm sure.

BTW all CH's have to be scouts... it's the pre-req.

How's it realistic? I click on a radial no one else can see, and call my pet. Stand around whistling for thirty seconds, 3 rounds of this old man for time reference. Then the pet magically appears.

I'm free to waste time when I want to. When 5 other players are waiting for me, the only CH to either call a camp or wait 30 seconds to call a pet, it's wasting time that could be used.

I'll be happy to report if I find this to be an improvement. And the only stubborn teenager in my house is my daughter.

Heh, well it might not be perfect in your head, but I meant it's MORE realistic than it just appearing instantly. If people just want it to appear right away then I can see being disappointed with this, but I think that's asking for too much. But I think this is better than having to make a camp, that's what I think it's an improvment over.

i like the new 30 sec timer. before that we couldnt even call pets with out being in a camp or city. besides it think it will actualy save us time. try setting up a camp in an arean that is covered with lairs and you get the message "you can not set up a camp this close to a lair". you would have to run up to 200m sometimesbefore you find a clear spot to get that camp down and call your pets out then run back to the mission.The60second store timer on combat is understandable to prevent exploiting. overall i think this will save usall some time.

I think the biggest objection is not to the 30 second timer itself, but that it going to be in effect at all times - in a city, camp or the wilderness. This means that, instead of being able to call a pet instantly in a city or camp as we do right now, we are being given a 30 second delay. For everything - need to call your droid for a quick heal before jumping on the shuttle? Wait 30 seconds. Generating your vehicle as you leave the city - wait 30 seconds. Showing a prospective client a mount? Wait 30 seconds. He wants to see a different type? Wait again. He wants the first one after all? Wait again.

No, its not a huge amount of time, but it is totally unnessecary and, as Sio said, the reason behind it is intellectually dishonest. Plus, given that this is new code being added to something that has been bugged several times in the past, does anyone seriously expect it to work right for the first 2 months? Its an unwanted and unjustified timesink for no reason other than to have a timesink. If the pets actually walked up from off-radar during this 30 seconds, I would be all for it - that would be pretty awesome. But they won't. As fantoq says, it will just be a case of sitting twiddling your thumbs for 30 seconds then poof, it appears just as before. I am not going to get heated about it, but its just another one of those things that adds just a littletedium for no good reason.

To the original poster that doubted 30 seconds is much longer than we take atm - using my dismount macro I can disembark, set a camp and call a pet in about 4-5 seconds, less if I have a chance to get my datapad open on the power down (which is most of the time). Choosing a place to set the camp isn't a problem, I just plan as I ride in and pick a spot to stop.

Sooty, they have changed it so that camps and city will have no timer.

"Did I say anywhere that I cannot craft camps? No, actually, I said I can craft camps."

No, but you DID say the above, which suggests you were either (1) a terrible scout or (2) just plain lying. I just crafted a basic camp in under 15 secs. Dropped it in 3, called a pet in 4 and was done. That too fast for ya? Come by Flurry some time if you'd like to see it again. I'll bet I can do it faster...

The 30 second timer is pointless. Since I can craft a camp faster, all it does is save me time if I don't feel like making a camp. There is absolutely no reason for it. All it does is make me wait 10 seconds longer to start a fight. I can see o good reason for it. Pets in PvP suck and in PvE, you just sit out of range and wait. It'sa stupid nerf and should be WAY down (if not off) the list given the other, more important bugs (need I mention the persistent "sliding technique"?)
