Serev,

Thankyou for your post, I don't discount any of what you said except for the fact you just started in the game, unless your start date is incorrect. Since June, been here since June, registered whenever, started looking at the forums in Dec. because of all the "rebalancing" that happened.

I have been a Master CH since forever it seems. I truly believe and agree with the last part of your statement, enjoy your profession. But it is more than enjoying your profession it is also being capable, no in fact when it says master, it means knowing your profession inside and out. I know what I can do as a CH. Case in point, just this morning a friend and I decided to do a pet war thing.

Him, a TKA against any of my pets, no healing, just pet to human. Results, I won 6 to 5, I didn't use all my pets but let me put down the results. I won with all my BE high level pets, woolamander, Razor Cat, Kimogilia, hurrton, narglatch. He won on creatures below CL 60. Oh and the we had a blast. My Kimogilia would not lose aggro and it killed him. Fortunately he was cloned.

The other thing is to know what situations not to take a pet into or myself as a wookie. I checked out the genosian caves but with so much visual spam, dead corpses and people running around I decided it was not the place for a wookie and before i could extricate myself, I got killed.

I find myself enjoying CH and my other support profession the more I learn all the strengths and weaknesses of both. Again my only concern is the many bugs that plague all the professions that should be fixed. Lastly it is a Holo GRIND and not a quest or an appointment or anything and I have seen many of my friends leave SWG because they got burned out doing a holo grind. That is why I think the way they set it up is bad. Oh and lastly, you become a jedi to learn the force but whenever you take out your sabre to fight something you get TEF. Who's dorky idea was that. I asked a friend of mine about it and he hasn't played his jedi in weeks because you are the weakest in the game and are always being killed by BH's whenever you use your sabre but the only way to get Jedi XP is by using your sabre. Kind of an endgame cyclic problem.

LOL how can you be quiet and secret and hidden if every time you use your dang sabre some BH gets a mission on you, what a lame profession.

....and then no matter how hard we get nerfed, we still keep CH because we are still some of the coolest characters on the game.

BOYCOTTING JUMP TO LIGHTSPEED UNTIL COMBAT BALANCE AND GCW REVAMP!
SWG: Quote: Grand moff Tarkin: The Jedi are extinct, their fire has gone out of the universe. you my friend are all thats left of their religon. Except for the other 5000 over there...

The problem is the new system will be even less tested than the original at release. What makes anyone think it will be more balanced than what we had when it's done?

Can't disagree with you on that. The devs already have the problem of a moving target with balance, but then they go and deliberately upset their firing platform to make it even more difficult to hit the moving target. This is not intelligent behavior.

I was just thinking about most of what's been said in this thread. The fact that people want to totally dismiss so much of the game solely for the fact that they want to unlock the jedi slot seems very silly. I mean, yes, to play a jedi will probably be exciting, and will obviously become something of a status symbol. However I just can't understandnot spending the time to appreciate all of the cool things that each class offers. But this seems to be common to the MMORPG world these days. Look at any MMORPG forum and you'll see so many posts asking what's the fastest way to get to the highest level or craft the best items. The whole concept, and the word "grind" itself isgetting very annoying. Why not take time and build some character and historyfor your characters?

The same goes for exploration. In Everquest I actually found having to run (as a high level bard, which was a time saver) every very fun! The same for my time while playing Ultima Online. I saw so many cool things while walking around Britainia! People don't realize how much they miss by casting spells or taking shuttles to travel instead of walking or riding a mount. Last night I decided to ride my speederbike around Tatooine instead of taking a shuttle to my next destination. On the way I was able to visit about half of the POI, see various terrains (and the creatures associated to them), see Jabba's place, and talk to numerous desert folk that I would have never seen otherwise.

I think everything discussed in this thread comes down to one thing: the need for instant gratification. The game was released earlier than it should have been so that Sony could get early gratification. Players rush through mastering classes to get their jedi gratification ASAP. And so on. A little patience goes a long way, and provides a lot of entertainment at the same time. Plus I find that playing the game to have fun and enjoy all the nuiances is a lot more fun than doing brain numbing activities to "grind" to some goal. What's the rush?! Kick back, have some fun!

Hasara, I think you've brought up a very good point; the need for instant gratification is a cancer on our society, and it's reflected from top to bottom. I see it at my workplace on a daily basis (I work for a small telephone company) where customers who can't have a phone NOW start behaving like three year olds. There's a lot of this going on, and there are more than a few people out there who are so obsessed wth the destination that they can't enjoy the journey.

Yep, instant gratification and I'm oftenas guilty as the next.

And the audience for this type of entertainment is probably worse than most. We're looking for challenge, entertainment, and something that can keep us interested long term. I have a bunch of desktop games that collect dust after six months or a year at the most. The reason I have a bunch is because I'll buy another one when I get bored.

An online game has to deal with that challenge as well. Just like DVD's where your video store has 50 copies on the day of release and a few months later you can buy them for $10 and they may have one or two out for rental. Somehow, a game has to keep momentum going to keep us interested.

I agree with many of the original posters points. I, too, refuse to holo-grind because it is not my idea of fun. I like other aspects of these types ofgames, mainly loot hunting, and prefer to do that. I read the publish 7 notes and think that if they implement it in that state, there will be an exodus from the game.

Bugs go unfixed, several professions are broken and many many issues continue to go unfixed from publish to publish. I read the forums and don't feel that the DEVs even care about fixing things, only pushing the game forward.

What will make or break this game for me, after all I am a huge Star Wars fan:

  • The new system for obtaining the FS slot is no better than holo-grinding when all things are considered (3+ months of hardcore gaming to get it). I basically think that since I payed for the game I should get the slot from the start or it should not take too much effort to unlock.

  • Professions with broken specials or other profession breaking problems are not fixed

  • Continued nerfing of the working professions, rather than boosting/fixing the broken professions

  • Continued lack of content

  • Continued lack of bug fixes for known issues

  • No endgame for those of us who don't care about being a Jedi

  • Weapon, armor, pet or any other character related nerf (I am tired of being nerfed)

I have been investigating WoW and from what I have read, it sounds like it will be far superior to many of the previous MMORPGs. They have laid out a solid quest system and deal with many of the commonly complained about issues in these types of games. The main ones I am glad to see addressed is dungeon camping and loot drop issues, mainly one item for 10 people. Blizzard has done their research and have come up with some great answers to the more common problems. Blizzard also has a fairly good track record when it comes to releasing quality games. They also tend to fairly prompt when in fixing bugs and broken stuff. They certianly don't ignore them for 7+ months.

All that being said, Blizzard is also known for being incredably slow on releasing their products. I think Diablo II was a year and a half behind schedule, well at least the orginially posted release date. With upcoming beta and hopefully a public stress test, WoW should be out in the late summer or early fall. The only faults I currently have with WoW is I am not a huge fan of the graphics and I know Blizzard is slow.

Maybe Doom 3 will come out soon and that will fill the void.

I agree with most of this, although I do see the Devs trying hard to bring things into balance - they are just not focused the way I would have done it. Too many cripplied problems were induced by the attempted balances. The game was rushed - to be expected nowadays. Problem was the Nerfing process was overdone & pissed off a large number of customers. Too much done without regard for customer impact. Changes could have been done in a more gradual manner - just talk to any DE's. Been destroyed for 6 months or more - and it did not have to be that way. Remember Probots that were actually useful & not just a joke for combat? They could have made a smaller change - until Droids came out as a major change. It would have a goodcustomer service oriented thing to do. Instead - they blew up the DE's and what DE's they didn't drive off the game, they drove to another profession.

The Jedi holocron run is stupid. True. About all you can say about it. A bad idea. Quests should have been done with deeds performed showing your light/dark intent.

Lack of Content is a gigantic problem. Lack of anything to do. I know people that have master their classes - get no more xp, have done the few dungeons/complexes that exist, and now just hang-around killing uber creatures once-in-awhile as they get bored. They are not interested in rotating classes just to have something to do.

Hence - Lack of Content problem. By the time the Space Pack comes out - with it's customary $29.99 price, they had better hope that WoW & Heroes are not out in the same time-frame...

Also, the devs can't decide if they want to have a MMORPG or an MMOFPS game, and the catering to the Quake PvP crowd in "balancing" demonstrates why this is a problem.

I never did understand this. The "Metrics" have always shown the +70% of the players were PVE players and not PVP. The most recent set 2/19/04:

73.69% Neutral (Read non PVP or PVE players.)

14.79% Rebel Covert (Read some PVP but mostly PVE)

10.69% Imperial Covert (Same as above)

.34% Declared Rebels (PVP players)

.49% Declared Imperials (PVP players)

I looks like die hard PVP players are less the 1% of players in the game. Even if you figure that all faction declared players PVP that still means the 3/4 of the player base does not. Yet, they continue to focus all their attention and changes for the benefit of PVP players and, usually the detriment of the PVE players.

It's human nature. No matter what systems are in place, there will be those who want to grind through them to geth the "best" whatever. I won't lie, I opened my first holo & it said merchant, so starting tonight I'm trying it. Yes I went into the forum & read how to power level. Yes I intend to power level. But you know what, I didn't wnat to do swordsman, but I tried it in case it was one of my profession to open my force sensitive slot & now I'm glad I did. I LOVE it. Same with CH (pre changes). I'm not crying aobut the changes, but it's not as fun as it was when I started, so now, I'm dropping it for merchatn. maybe I'll love merchant, maybe I won't , but the idea is to get people to try different professions & gain experience in areas they may never try ont heir own. WIll people grind away & drop? Yes. But so what? If you love the profession, treat it with respect, there's nothing you can do to force others too and no matter what the system is, people will abuse it.

I totally agree, the rush to the top is a bad state of mind for playing games. But although beatufully rendered .. the landscape is all barren. Personally i have traveled by foot across every planet from beta till now.. thats alot of walking. Obviously the game isnt in its prime yet with content and game systems being buggy and unreliable at best, this really slows down my want to travel to these POI's just to see a.. well nice 3d photo (in some cases 1 or 2 pieces of debre). now if these places had something going on.. like a battle or an adventure to take up.. then thy would be something to look forward to. Right now in your travels youll see alot.. but not do alot.

As far as the to the top attitude, alot of games enable loot to make people focus less on leveling and more on going to those places for adventure and loot. this game decided to take a dfferent path making it heavy on player crafting.. which makes the rewards for combat and adventure less interesting because you know you will extreamly rarly find a gun better then one you can just buy.

a few ideas that could liven up the world?

1. Missons follow the story line accualy given when you accept it at mission terminals.

2. POI's all have a meaning and point to go there.. POI does not mean picture of interest (only in SWG).

3.more varity as far as wild life (different colors, different markings and so on) .

4.Snow!, rain! lightning!storms that just plain blow you off your feet! the weather is kinda weak.. although it does look great (rain and sand storms is all the universe has to offer?) MAKE STORMS LOWER RADAR DISTANCE.

5.Random spawns in player cities that give content and drive players to accually be there.. its ghost towns out there now.

6.When a rebel sees and imperial NPC or an agressive creature comes within 20m of some other creature.. they should fight period. I really miss the days of over spwned dantooine, lok, endor, and dathomir where all EXTREAMLY dangerous as they should be.

All these thing of course would take time to put into game.. as o now i see the shell of a game slowly (very very very) slowly filling in. I just fear that bad reviews, bored customers and slow publishing (space expansion) will kill this game and never let it see its full potential. It already has killed it for me and many many others.

Good luck, thanks for reading.

I agree. This is said about every in production game when there is another one down the pipe. Yada yada yada, if the game is causing you folks this much grief ask yourself why are you staying. If you are not having a good time and haven't been for some time maybe you should revaluate why you are here.

Myself, I would like to see the FS slot set that it's almost impossible to open deliberatly or return the permadeath for them. IMHO there should be only a handful of Jedi per sever, and I only say that for the challenge to BH in getting to hunt them down. SWG isn't about jedi, and that seems to have become the focus for most people. Personally, I will go play Jedi Academy when I need to get my Jedi Jones on.

In short, if you stay, be constructive. If you can't be constructive, maybe you should leave.

Just my 2 creds
