Thread: Consider this... why 30 seconds is too long.
I have a hard time reconciling the two bold scentences. If he stopped chasing you, why are you having a hard time staying away from him? Shoot, I spent two months as a bio engineer masking scent around rancors and running when it broke, and had no problems at all. Just last night, I was out with a group on Endor, we had no trouble finding a place to drop camp, switch creatures, heal, and what not, taking much longer than 30 sec, or even 90 sec. each time. I think that all this griping about the 30 sec timer is unfounded, it's hardly the world shaking change that some people are trying to make it out to be.

After Pet Call Timer patch...
I'm out here on dath fighting Rancor vs Rancor... when all of a sudden my rancor decideds he's tired and autostores. So i burst run away from the now Agro'd rancor and he decides its not worth his time to pursue me anymore. Awesome..open my data pad, select my nice Rancor.. hit call... now my 30 second timer starts... during that time i try to stay away from Mr. Agro Rancor.. but no luck he comes over and incaps me and deathblows me before my timer is out... oh whats that... my pet just arrived...
Our pets are our weapons.. Why not put a 30 seconds equip timer on a rifle... It doesn't make sense...
You can argue we can call these huge pets out of no where... Its all about tactics... know your opponent.. know what your getting yourself into...
Just my opinion
DeneziB, you just won't give up. So fine. I will concede your point and not call my pet anything other than a companion.
So let's look at my PC companions. Master Rifleman, Master TKA, Master Fencer, Master Commando, Master Bounty Hunter, Master Doctor, Master Combat Medics, etc. They can all shred any single target short of a nightsister, and many of them can handle them as well. They don't have pathing problems, cause NPCs to run, auto-store on a frequent basis, nor any of the other professional issues we have. Usually they can contribute something to the group and do so with one profession (I am ignoring multiple professions as I want to talk balance).
My one profession entitles me to a companion. One that a novice in any of the professions I listed above can kill. If my Master-level skill is designed to give me a companion, then it damn well better be on par as any other companion with an equal skill expenditure. That is how a balanced system works. Add in the recent bugs and continued nerfing to an already weaker profession and the problems escalate.
Companion or weapon, it should enable me to perform to some equivalent degree as any other combat profession. This is not the case.
I have no problems calling my pets weapons. That's exactly what I use them for. It's the only reason Creature Handler can be (should be) considered a combat profession, because the weapons we use as CHareour pets. Our pets aren't weapons? How many CH out there have their datapad stocked with squalls and durnis and little birdies - any ofthose really cute looking pets? No, we havemereks and gaping spiders and rancors. Things that can do a lotof damage and take a lot of damage.
If I want companions, I hunt with my friends - real people. (Well, Ipresume they're real. I haven't actually met them so you never know).I can talk with them. Ok, I can talk with my pets, too, but they don'ttalk back. Ok, they do sometimestalk back, but only when I go off my meds.

Our pets are NOT our weapons. Our pets are companions akin to having a friend fightin alongside us. When was the last time you saw a floating rifle next to your side firing? Never. BTW, if the rancor aggros you, you still wouldn't be able to call the pet if there was no 30 second timer.
LMAO, what kind of pets are you carrying in your datapad? My Brackaset with Strong Poison/Strong Disease and a ranged attack d@mn sure isnt made for cuddling with next to the fire on cold winter nights on Hoth.... its made for killing crap. My gurreks and narglatches and kimos and rancors... they arent made for the sake of being friendly.
Whats one of the first 3 commands a CH gets at novice? ATTACK.... what do you think the attack command does DeneziB? We dont even get the Trick One and Trick Two commands until we have used our "companions" to aid in the slaughter of countless other pets, so what makes you think they are our companions and not our weapons?
My pet isnt a weapon? You tell me the difference between the following-
- Equipping an FWG5, hitting TAB to target the nearest enemy and pressing my "StoppingShot" hotkey until target dies
- Calling and grouping with my pet, hitting TAB to target the nearest enemy and pressing my "/tellpet attack" hotkey until the target dies

Case 1. you dont have to carry food
Case 2. You (before publish 6
Oh and our (CH) specials still dont work.
Now if I only had MCH and a crafting skill what am I supposed to hit an attacker with? That thing I hit with is often called a weapon. Using game mechanics I can't hit them with the 100 tons of steel I happen to be carrying (too bad. "you drop 100 tons of steel on 'X' causing 200,000 points of kinetc damage.
-Indene- (make Bounty hunters wait 30 sec to pull out their big guns. Should be entertaining)

1. Nearest enemy dies.
2. You either die or incap, or run away to lose aggrocause pet dies from running all over the place instead of attacking.
Were those the differences you were looking for?
