Thread: Ranger, Pistoleer, or TKM?
It all depends on what you're trying to accomplish in the game. I set out to be the Ultimate Tank, so I went MCH/TKM/Medic. I don't want to have to rely on my aim of a gun. TK's are 20% more accurate than the 2nd most accurate proff in the game (Rifleman). There is one small problem with fighting next to your pets... the fact that they stand on top of you while they fight! Sometimes, weeding thru the fur of a Graul can be frustrating.
And for those who complain about the TK's being too powerful... I don't see Rancors with guns to shoot you from 40m away. TK's are in the **edit** all the time. There is no kiting... only fighting!

I was a master CH and master pistoleer for a while, and I thought that was really fun.
then I tried master CH and master swordsman. WHOO boy. that's some potent shizniz. swordsman has incredible damage, more than a TKM, on pool directed strikes (mind pool!). the defense isn't as good as teras kasi defense, but as an MCH you don't care, you just want high damage output, and on that swordsman delivers.
my friend the grenadeer/CH was jealous when he saw how much damage I was doing to mobs as a swordsman, so yeah, very good damage.
might be a bit different than general taste... at least i hope so.
why the tka the way it is? because i am a wookie and can't count on a doc buffing me 24/7, so i at least want the powerbost, as well as i like the meditate idea... just kinda fits in line with my chat concept, so why not take the benefit as well.
As you've probably noticed your pets are not a little flighty in battle and will run all over the countryside to achieve an "ideal range" for their attacks. As a swordswoman I can tell you this makes using pets as tanks for grinding at lower levels impossible for melee.
Although, while I was working on mastering brawler, I noticed the range meter on unarmed with knucklers was completely broken. If you've got VKs equipped you can hit things from 10m+ even when you have that little red line in the range adjustor (you know that little -50 to +50 thing). I only got the message "your target is out of range" when it passed over 15m. This was standard attacks too, not the unarmed lunge, but unarmed hit was landing at 10m as well when the range meter said I was well beyond range.
If you can get your pets to hold still I'd say a brawler class would work well too (otherwise I hope you like jogging). Although from what I can tell TKA pretty much has twice the range as any other brawler class, so you might as well take this pseudo-marksman class as long as you have VKs.
I most recently used an arachne webmaster while trying to find a toxic merek battlelord baby. With the webmaster, I killed the initial spawn, which was two adult TMBs and a baby ... blood stained? A TMB baby spawned on the first lair pop, but in my eagerness to tame it I didn't account for the second adult TMB spawn, who saw straight through my mask scent and charged at me. I had no pet out. I still killed it fairly convincingly.
Trying to have the pet take the brunt of the attacks while you dish out the damage is difficult as a melee profession. You have to be further away from the target than your pet is, and with critters dancing all over the place to get their ideal range, you've really got to stay on your toes to be within range yourself, but not closer than your tank.
All in all, Creature Handler has been killed by a combination of heavy handed nerfing and probably deserved boosts to other professions. I sigh for the inevitable nerf of TKA that will kill that profession also.
On the flip side, I'll probably be selling my repertoire of pets shortly.
with using pets, create macros and customize ur commands for each individual pet so u have them deal with several targets at once or have one attack and one guard. Though this is only an option for higher level ch's.
Foth!
