Thread: True Initiative from pets, a concept Revision 1
Good point, I forgot about the vitality bit. Okay, so no guarding on their own then (shudders at the thought of her bantha getting brave on Dathomir). But the rest of it cound easily work, such as dependability and strength going up based on the amount of care they receive.

There are definitely some strong roleplay possibilities, and Star Wars precedents for what you describe. Tusken Raiders establish a strong lifelong bond with their bantha mounts, for example. Banthas that witness their Tusken Raider companion getting killed have been known to go into insane rages (and even throw themselves off cliffs as a form ofempathetic suicide).
I'm just saying that pragmatism will probably win out in the endfor most players (even those with roleplay tendencies). The Tusken from the above example probably wouldn't want his bantha to self-destruct like that... but (unlike an SWG player), he really doesn't have much to say about it after taking the Big Nap himself. ![]()
I'd also be cautious of using something as easily macroable for gaining loyalty as repeatedly using /pet on your pet. If there's any kind of tangible advantage to be gained by doing so, you'd see people afk petting en masse (okay, perhaps that could be phrased better
).
I have to hand it to you, these are some interesting ideas.
Regarding pet tiredness, some pets already do have that programmed into their AI. Anyone who can remember 'back in the day' before mounts and vehicles when you had to travel on foot to get anywhere, I can impart to you one creature I know for SURE exhibits a form of AI 'tiredness' when it has been following you for too long.
The Greater Sludge Panther.
These beasts are downright stubborn if they have been walking too long, and you can spam your /yell f macro until you're blue in the gills, and yes, they will catch up with you but every bit as quickly they will stop following again a few seconds later.
Only setting up a camp and resting would alleviate this behavior from them.
But now we have bikes to get where we're going, and we don't need the GSPs anymore as guardians on foot. Just a little side-note. I don't know of other creatures that do this, but I'm 100% sure the GSPs did it (and probably still do it).
Great post, original, creativeideas. 5 stars for you, bud. ![]()

Hi
Sorry all but don't see the point of adding most of this, if my pets hungry then it tells me, if not its up to me to feed it after a fight, as for if you use your pets too much it gets weak and dose not follow you or stops to rest , we all ready have a bug where pets stop following you, so why add another one, lets get the bugs we alreadyhave sorted out fisrt, also we are MASTER CREATURE HANDLERS so thay do what we tell them NOT what thay want to do, don't seem right that if i want to have another fight and my pets says hang on mate im hungry wait till i'v eaten first then we will go... -10% on its damage a CH pets damage is crap anyway why make it less. most of the stuff i have read seems a negative factor against the MCH and his pet... " BE's could make animals with higher or lower devotion as well" why` i think thay are doing alright as it is,,can we tame level 10 bantha's and mount them and sell them on the bazaar NO, we can not even sell most pets now since thay nerfed us... also if your check and read your CH levels your see "your pets wll fight to the death for you,,,a CH at this level has full trust in his/her pets,,pets will obay your every command..
ooh, I like that one a lot.
a Player could also influence the devotion through certain actions. What those actions might be is prolly personal to most players. I'd say sitting in a camp with my Mottled Wrix and petting it a lot would increase the devotion, whereas always telling my Mountain Dewback to stay back and don't fight when I'm down would decrease it. I can see however, that another player might not feel like petting their animal all the time because his/her vision is that they and their pet have a strong relationship of understanding that doesn't include love in the traditional sense, but love through loyalty. They would want other actions to increase devotion, but that's for them to post here ![]()
I wouldn't change the original post, becausea lot of folks might not notice it had been edited. I'd leave this one open for discussions and then work up a proposal after that.
