Thread: A request for a Retire Pet option
You have my vote.
Either idea would be fine but the first would be preferable. The idea of turning your pet into a droppable item would be beneficial in two ways that I can see. The first would be what you mentioned....wanting to hold on to a dear friend. The second could be looked at kinda like a form of taxidermy. This would allow us to make trophies for other people to put in their houses or they could be looked at like house pets. Either way it would be another way for CH's to make a few creds selling to non-CH's and people who just want something to put in their house.
I really hate destroying pets...even the ones I just tamed. It seems so crewel.
I'm for anything that removes the destroyed wording to releasing pets. I haven't been a CH for very long, but in the beginning, I could release the babies I tamed without any destroy type messages. I hate seeing the message we get now, even though it includes the wording that the creature has been released to the wild. I also like the roleplay aspects of the suggestions here.
I vote yes!!

Just and odd-ball thought. Maybe you can turn it into something (a deed or whatever) that has to be given to an artisan to craft a retired version of? One that could be placed in a house and do its trick animations. That would fit with the 'rely on other profesions' approach. BE pets should also be able to be 'mounted' (I can't think of a better word but I don't want them immobile) so people could buy trophy animals.
I don't care all that much about watching the pet ride off into the sunset. No big deal there and lots of coding for little benefit.
I also don't care what the label on the radial menu is - it is just a text label not a state of mind. I always call my pet, have it do a trick, then release it. The physical mechanism happens to be using the Destroy radial menu, but I know that pet is releasing rather than being deleted - the message even says so
.
great idea my friend. it would make it much more realistic, and i could actually tame some more pets..i feel so bad when i have to destroy my old pet...i still havent killed my first pet, good ole Pup, a gulama... heh, i love that thing...

I have been begging for this for awhile now.

That would be a clone. We have two cloned Bachelor Gualamas in our PA Hall on pedistals (they're our mascots) and they just sit there and do the idle animation. It would be a great idea for our pets.

haha i guess after awhile u would become attatched to a pet....
i would cry if my dewback (thor) died on me
i would rather see him return to the wild =/
or shoot him myself to put him out of his misery.. stupid ass dewback.. running in the wrong direction
I've been trying to get a way to drop my pets in my house for a long time - we are the only profession that can not display our wares in our house -- and even though right now we can only give away low level pets and make very little money (when dealing with non - ch's) after mounts come out we will have good business and will need a way to display our wares to the masses
It used to be that when you released a pet it would stand there for a while to at least give the illusion that you hadn't destroyed it. That was what the release command did before they changed it to destroy, which was in turn before they changed it to store. Something like that would be good.
For the retire thing, my idea was that it be a master only command, that the retired pet not be transferrable (like a vendor only it can be picked back up by the masterbut it can only be dropped in a house owned by the master), and that there be some sort of requirement that the pet be really old and well used. My idea for measuring the last one was some sort of check for max vitality. That way, it would ensure it was a pet you'd been using, and it would help bioengineers (whiny little **edit**). It would ensure that CHs were buying vitality packs, which would provide a trade-off for CHs getting an ability that had previously only beena BE ability (they got tame for their products, so it seems fair to me even if they didn't get the trade-off). It would also get the CHs in the habit of buying vitality packs instead of just going out and taming a new pet the first time their old one fell below 100. Some CHs don't like this idea because they think people will just get their pet DBed over and over to make them statues, but I don't think anyone would want to display a pet they cared so little about.
The brilliant thing about this is that they wouldn't take up any more database space than a BE statue. All the server would have to remember is the name, the color (some species have different colors, I think), the trick commands (possibly) and the owner.
I recommend reposting your original message on the main discussion forum, and then start a thread here with a link to it so that folks can go and keep bumping it.
The retire pet option is what I have requested for. I still fully support this idea.
I believe we used to have a released pet staying in the world for a while instead of beinginstantly slaughtered before the big patch. I believe I have re-tamed a released pet as well, though you won't get ch xp re-taming a pet. I have no idea why they would change that.
Would be great to see both of your suggestions implemented.
