Thread: Time to start addressing the problems with mounts...
same goes for this game. althought it be damn funny to see those little legs hauling @ss lol
Personally I think 15 is a good round number. In combat it will not tip the battle either way. Though I concede that chs should be able to get better mounts, but this usually involves just getting a BE carrion spat or BE kaddu thats level 70. I cried a tear when I found out that BEs could not give me a giant carrnion spat when I saw them in the wild I said that would be a waste in my datapad.
The whole vehicle system in the game is kind of a joke. People pulling rides out of thin air for one. Then you have no speeder breakdowns. In a system like this is the flash creature mount really all that unrealistic. Then again I think it would be a much more balanceing issue if the speeder bikes had their speeds reduced to about half of what they are. Then the speeder couldnt slip unscathed past mobs.

It's like that in most MMO's. WoW pulls mounts out of thin air also. An easier system could be devised for mounts, such as calling you mount and then it gallops in from a random direction about 30m away from you, to simulate actually summoning the animal. This obviously wouldn't work for vehicles, though, so it's a moot point.
As far as vehicle breakdowns (and mounts), I believe the suggestion of using the vehicle/mount as a temporary shield is the best option thusfar. For instance:
You get on your Speederbike Swoop. It's fast, and if something attacks you, its attacks hit the bike first until it blows up your bike, then once that forcefully dismounts you, it can attack you directly. Since some people wanted turreted vehicles/APCs and such that you could attack from, obviously those could go much slower (to assuage the devs fear that if they let people attack from mounts/vehicles, we'd do nothing but traverse everywhere in those vehicles... which is a load of dung, because we all want to get where we're going fast. Example, nobody will choose a tank over a BARC if they don't have gunners and they're going under half the speed of the BARC.)
Similarly for mounts, if you're on a war fambaa (as seen in Episode I), you can attack from atop it and the only way to get to the rider(s) is to kill the fambaa first, thus bringing you down to ground level where you can be attacked. It makes up for the lack of defense most CH templates have, and don't tell me it's hard for PvPers or mobs alike to go through a 6k HAM pet. And similarly, this "large mount" would be slow as heck, thus making it not applicable in many situations. It would, however, liven the battlefield and add a new aspect to the game. (God forbid that from happening.)
As someone else posted eons ago in the Mounts Unleashed thread, there are big disadvantages to being on a big mount, also (pun intended.) Attackers should get a bonus to their To-Hit and/or Accuracy, since your ride is enormous and impossible to miss. Thus while it can take a good amount of damage, presumably, it's also easier to hit and quicker to whittle down. Smaller mounts are quicker, would not have that modifier, and could theoretically allow their single rider to attack from atop it. This would make much more sense for largescale flat, open battlefields (for PvP), than people Burst Running/Force Running across large areas and chasing one another, sprinting everywhere. It would give mounts/vehicles a new purpose. And what would be the difference there between a mount and a vehicle? Such "tank"-like vehicles would require additional gunners, whereas a war mount would autonomously engage attackers by itself and wouldn't need multi-tasking. The advantage for vehicles, using the skill of multiple players, would be higher damage output and the player-driven ability to engage multiple targets if it carried multiple guns. Though I'd say such vehicles should be strictly Factional and cost a good bit, you won't have one of those if you're not active in the war. Thus the bigger mounts should be more accessible/frequent, and give CH's something new and popular... You'd actually be wanted for something.
Just my wishes and thoughts. Don't mind me. /rant off
The real power of vehicles is they are lag enabled. Which I am sure was not the intention since vehicles have severely limited hitpoints. The problem was no mob could do damage to a speeder because it has the almightly lag power. Thats right it exceeds the range by far before the creatures can either spawn or fire.
Initially the balance seemed sound atleast to me when I heard the details. Speeder expensive and easily destroyed but when you absolutely needed to be there now right this instant a speeder was a good choice. Mount was slow but easily could be killed 20 times before being replaced and could be healed. Good if you have to go places where a speeder would be slaughtered.
The more I think of it the more it makes sense. If only the speed of the speeders were reduced to where they couldnt outpace spawn and would actually take damage that might be worth exploreing that and upping the repair costs on the vehicles. Maybe double what they are now so people cant use them as mission fodder as they do now.
I doubt the devs would ever put in a come to you call though it would make alot of sense for mounts it would be hard on chs since every pet we would call might come running through the mob we want to call down. I think a decloak shimmer would be nice ala starwars klingon birds of prey. Where it looks like water rippleing. Then again makeing them camp callable again would mean that they could be pulled out of a tent like they were just stored their for the night.
