you can only do 1 at a time, if you do another one right after it will go silent, lotsa people think they open their slot but you don't, you HAVE to do only 1 at a time :-)

Thanks - I kinda thought that was how it worked, and I was too scared to try opening another without knowing either way :-)

Just a quick question about how holos work,

I opened a holo, and it said Squad Leader (this is the first one). However, I plan on doing a lot of other professions before I do SL - it seems like most people have to do a lot of professions, I might as well do the ones I can easily do first.

My question is, are the professions needed to unlock set at character creation (if this is known), or are they set after you open a holo. Ie if I only have 5 professions left after I master SL (just an example), will the next holo always pick one of those 5?

It's set at character creation. That's why some people have only gotten silent holos and others have had the max of 4.

but if I mastered all of my other professions, and then mastered SL - could I unlock on that?

yup. If anyone tries to argue this (since people say the silent is random after you complete the others) they are crazy since you do not even need holos at all to unlock, it jsut gives you a better cahnce of gettin the required profs done. You get some number of profs you have to master, you will get a certain number of those told to you in holos before you get a silent one. After that there is an undetermined number of professions left to master. Say there are 6 profs required for you to unluck and you did the other 5. If you open another Holo, I beleive it would be silent (rather than telling you SL again as they normally will). You could then do SL and unlock.

This assumes that mastering profs is the only requirement which is the common theory, but not completely proven to be fact. There are still cases of people unlocking on seemingly random acts that could indicate some other requirement or simply account for lag in the reporting system. Whatever.

Over the last day I've found two holocrons. I haven't looted any of these in a long time now; I thought they were removed from the game since the path to Jedi was changed. I tried to use them, but they just made a humming sound and did nothing. Is there a new use for these, or are they just leftover from pre-patch 9? Thanks.

There's a new use for them.

If you are a Jedi and you use one, it will replenish your force bar.

I'm guessing from your post that they are more common now than they used to be. This is very cool if it's true.

Great, thanks for the info. Yeah, they must be getting more common again. I haven't found one in months, and then yesterday/today I found 2 off of Rebel Surface Marshall's (one Sith and one regular).
