Thread: Are the Devs really to blame?
Is there really some mystery figure in the background, who has been forcing the devs to push out buggy updates since the launch of the game 2 years ago?
Personally, I think it's just the way the devs have chosen to do things. They think providing content faster is better than providing content with a minimum of bugs. It's a buisness decision for them: The devs have learned that most players will tolerate the bugs again and again, but do crave more things to do in game.
I don't even know why they go through the charade of having a test center. The publishes spend so little time there being tested that it's laughable.
The current developer team obviously isn't up to the task of producing working updates on schedule.
This is pretty much proven. Not just with this update, but over time they have failed over and over.
Keeping the current dev teams as they are now will mean a future of mediocrity for SWG.
If the Devs are inept, they need to be replaced with people who know what they are doing.
If they aren't totally inept and there is just too few of them to keep up with all the updates, then they need to hire more of them.
So the people in charge of hiring/firing developers has just got to do something different if there is any hope of a change.

It seems like the devs are given until certain times to complete and release certain things which can be really bad. They should be allowed to take their time and be allowed to thoroughly test and complete things. Whoever is causing this rushing to release things seems to be the one most at fault.
I guess im just getting tired of hearing all the blame going to the devs when it might not even be their faults. Its kind of like blaming an employee at a local game store for selling a bad game. Howcould it be his fault? I have seen several attacks on the devs calling them "idiots" and what not which is really what is driving me to make this post. So who really is to blame?
Yes, the Devs are to blame. They were told about this 1(0) bug last week and did nothing but push it to the live servers. And I for one hope that a Developer gets fired over this bug. I personally wouldn't be too unhappy to see Tiggs pack her bags and leave, or that JFreeman Developer with his lame excuse.

To be honest, placing the blame gets nothing done. I would much prefer constant feedback from those responsible in getting the whole mess put right, than those responsible coming out and telling us who's fault it is.
Why cant they place a sticky where we cant post comments, but it can be used by the devs to give us updates. Give us information, lt us know whats happening. Sure it wont fix the mess we are in but at least it lets us know whats happening.

The combat upgrade was chosen by the players. If you remember a servay taken about a year and a half ago, this is the result. They are giving us what we "want"

Not everything. In the end these are just people who report to bosses and put money on the table to make it thru their lives. However, they are responsible for addressing our concerns in a timely manner and working harder to focus on each profession equally. Every prof has had a share of glitches since they began doing updates. However, as of late, I grow tired of watching our profession seemingly to get more and more pushed aside for whatever reasons we are not a priority. Its really a shame, however, unless you all have deeper pockets than me, the only fight that will get you change is lawayers and courts. I work for a large customer service company, when we have upset customers who threaten to sue, we say "Go Ahead, we have all the best lawayers working for us already."
So here we sit, bored, and interest wayning because they put us on the back burner.

Actually, this CU is not what we chose nor did we want it. While a combat revamp was certainly in order, I doubt this CU is even what the Devs wanted. Many of you will remember the Correspondent summit they had in Austin, oh so many moons ago, where CU and other issues were discussed. The correspondents came back very excited about the changes they thought were going to happen. I'm willing to bet that the CU we have now is not exactly what was discussed in Austin and certainly not what we wanted.

It is not what the players asked for. What we constantly asked for were bug fixes (in all professions). The answer since October 2003 has been, "Wait for the Combat Revamp/Update/Rebalance."
Every single time.
They used it as an excuse to avoid fixing things or making balance passes because that was all going to happen "soon". It is their own fault for continually putting it off and refering to it as the end-all-be-all fix for this game for one and half years.
