I'm a NCH on Bloodfin and I'm having a problem naming my pets. I follow the directions it lists in the handbook, including the name in the training. All I get is a command which encludes the name I set. For instance, if I want to name the pet Roger, I use the TAME RADIal selection, select follow and say "roger follow". The command for follow is then listed as roger follow and the name doesn't take.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Is there a certain skill level I have to attain before I can name? Is there something I need to include in thepet command?

Any help would be very cool.

One thing that they dont tell you is that you have to be in a city. if that isnt the problem, make sure the name is spelled the same with all caps the same. hope this helps.

Takes four commands to name a pet, but even then I've had problems naming pets in the last week or so.

I taught my Thune 14 commands with a name in front of it 2 times for a total of 28 commands... and it never changed from a thune (baby).

Ummmm, no you do not need to be in a city to name your pets. You just have to use four different commands useing the name as the first word in the command. You can re-train the commands without the name after so you dont have to say it when you give the commands.

FIrst, Hellion, you do not have to be in a city to name a pet. You can name them anywhere. I have tamed and trained and named my pets right where I found them, all of them.

Second, you have to use 4 commands minimum to name any pet. I usually just go down the list and do the first 4 commands. You do have to make sure that you spell it the same each time (I goofed one time and had one mis-typed), and not using any special characters that are not allowed in player names. They follow the same naming convention as players. You can also not use any spaces in the pets name. I had a customer purchase a GSP and he wanted to train his name. I watched, and he tried using somehting like Billy Bob for the name, with the command after it. It came up Billy. After using BillyBob, it worked fine and the pet was named BillyBob.

I don't have any explaination for why you are having problems naming your pet Hoonge, unless it is the pet that is bugged. I have never once had a pet that would not take his name, unless I mis-typed it once, or used characters that were not allowed in a name.

WOW, i got flamed fast. I have been naming pets a long time and have had lots of problems lately. the fix that works 100% of the time is being in a city. its actually amazing no one else has this problem or has to do this. my server is kauri and whenever i get asked this question (and it is very often!) this is my response. and everytime this works. flame me all you want, but it works 100% of the time for me and everyone i ask. im actually glad there are others out there who dont have this problem cause it really does suck.

Hellion, I was not flaming you. Those were not flames, just friendly corrections. There may be a server specific problem that you are dealing with. Everyone I know, on several servers do exactly as I do, and don't have any problems. So it could be an issue with the server you are on. I would /bug it and see what happens.

I recently had a problem naming cowardly gurreck baby "Saber" with 5 commands, only to realize later that the name was filtered (because of 'light sabers' I'm guessing =p ) You might try naming itsomething else, the filter is obviously very sensitive even toparts of whatever words they banned.

I was unable to name my merek assasin Raider, but i changed his name to Skull-Patrol and it worked. This is the first time I have had this problem. I was in a outpost not a city when i first tried. So far i have not found that I need to be in a city to name a pet. I think this is just a recent bug.

Well, I got a guild mate a rock beetle to use but when I tried to name it it wouldn't take the name. I then tried a different name which didn't work either. has anyone else had this problem? do you know how to fix it?

I had this problem once because I was trying to use a name that was not allowed. Try doing something simple like "bob" and see if it works. If it does, the game was simply not allowing you to use the other name you were trying. IE you can't name something darthvader.

Also make sure all 4 commands you teach the pet are exactly the same, as the game system is case sensitive.

If all of this doesn't work, you have a bug. =(

Also, make sure the pet wasn't previously named and still trained with commands containing the name. If it was/has them, retrain all of those commands, or at least the majority.
