OK,Sio just took down a <75> mark on Naboo. The mark used KDs (not unusual at all) and roots (totally new) on me in the course of the battle.


But, the really remarkable thing is, Sio was usinghis current gnort of death KD/Intim pet, Tyson, and a level 62 gackle bat hunter named Boo who he hopes to soon learn eye gouge L2 from (Go for the eyes, Boo, go for the eyes!. It's a natural! )


The thing is, as the battle progressed, I noticed icons going up on the mark for specialsSio was not using and for specials thatSio's pets do not have! Going back, I analyzed the combat spam, and discovered that somehow, without tirggering them, the gackle bat hunterwas making bleeding attacks (that STACKED with Sio's torso shots!) and imperiling feint attacks!


Is this an unintended consequence of the new "mobs use more specials" change in pub 24? Does the gackle bat hunter also have those two specials as potentially learnable, and thus it will use the attacks at random, as pets used to do pre CU, if they are coded into the skin?


If so, pets have aquired a new importance; while you can't order them to use their additional specials, they might use them, and in the case of bleeding attack, the gackle bat hunter's bleeding attack DOTswere hitting for more points than Sio's torso shot DOTswere!


This cannot possibly be intended, I just don't believe it. Someone got sloppy, and now pets have free special attacks that you can't trigger but will still contribute to the damage you do to a target.

Based on the info in swgcreatures, gackle bat hunters can have eye gouge or staggering attack (and probably knockdown). So not only was Boo using specials he didn't know, he was using specials that weren't "in the pool" for him to know at tame.


My guess is that with the "NPC special" changes, creatures were given abilities to use (or ramped up the chances of them using them) when fighting players. So if you fight against a wild gackle bat hunter, I suspect you might find yourself bleeding or feinted.


So I guess we're looking at one of two things: either pets are supposed be losing these abilities after taming (so you ran across a bug), or we should start cataloguing these "natural abilities" to take advantage of pets with built-in specials (like in the pre-CU CH system).


Maybe you could see if Boo responds to either /petBleedAttack or /petDefenseBreakAttack to trigger the built-in specials...

When I was hunting on Endor today, many of the babies I was trying to tame when they turned on me were using special attacks too. I may just have to try out some of my newly tamed babies to see if they do this.


I was getting snared, dizzied, bleed and everything else. Cool feature let's hope.

Its probably a bug, since wild creatures now use specials (in fact, they use specials that their species wouldn't normally have if you tame them even). They probably forgot to remove them from pets, and it'll probably be fixed sometime in the future. If not, then all of the triggerable abilities are pointless, because the pet will use them randomely anyway.

perhaps its like the bloodseeker mite queen. these little precious uses dizzy + stun + blind attacks (as aoe) before pub 24. and those attacks are no abilities - just natural attacks that cannot be triggered by commands.

Rumor has it that quite a few things got broken in this last patch. Like Jabba's palace, for example. Wouldn't surprise me if this is another busted thing.

Mobs use specials that the basic "family" of that mob can use, for example a nightsister could have access to any number of force attacks, unlike players with a set template and moves.


If pets are picking up theyre mob "family" ofspecials then a particular breed could have a very large array of specials to draw from. I can't see this staying in game for long. maybe a month lmao. since the expansion will keep them busy for a while. Enjoy it while it last.

As has been noted in another post, I have experienced this as well. What is not so good is that the area of attack for bull rancors appears to have vanished.

another possible answer maybe critters are more generic then we thought and have all specials but the old code might have been set up so certain skins triggered certain specials and seeing most of the code in game is so messed up all the specials are now open to be used


if so I would be interested in seeing what the be pets do (keep in mind this is a far fetched idea but sounds just as good as the ablility to draw on mobs family specials )
