Back when CH was nerfed, I was about two thirds of the way to master, and I have never really felt like the nerf detracted from my gaming experience as a CH. In fact, I rather appreciated the fact that everyone dropped CH and I suddenly became one of the more rare professions.
Since making master, I have slowly tried to acquire better pets, and I have honed my PvP skills, which is the primary focus of my game these days. In this age of defense stacking, the weakened state of CH is becoming apparent. An argument against the former strength of CH was always that it was too dominant because someone could be a master rifleman, say, and also a master CH, essentially acting like two-agains-one in any head-to-head matchup with another player.
But these days, stacking defense modifiers are what separate the living from the dead in PvP. And someone who goes for master CH just doesn't compete as well with someone who stacks multiple pure-combat professions.
It would be really nice to see creature pets become a little more powerful again. Another thing that might help would be some defensive bonuses in the creature handler tree. I admit it's not easy to think of defense bonuses that seem logical for creature handlers, but one that comes to mind would be disease and poison resistance. Why not? CHs spend a lot of time with the creatures that naturally dole out this stuff, so it makes sense that CHs should build some resistance to it. Put it up high in the tree to discourage dabblers from picking it up. I think that disease and poison resistance would be a huge step in making CHs competitive in PvP.

That's actually not a bad idea, and makes some sense about the posion/disease resists.
I know we hear this a lot, but wait for the combat rebalance. Devs have said they will take care of Def Stacking.

My Jedi master creature handler will soon have those abilities.
I think all creature handlers should have resists to disease and poison because of how often we tame pets that have those qualities. It should be a master only ability since most of the high disease, high poison creatures have high cl.
Also I would like to see any pet that is monsterous in size or over a specific cl resistant to knockdown and dizzy attack. It makes no sense that a player should be able to knockdown a rancor. Any creature over level 50 i think should have a very high resistence to knockdown.

Preliminary Combat Balance Changes: As part of the ongoing Combat Balance, the team has made some preliminary changes to combat in order to equalize some of the larger changes that have been made recently.
Defensive Modifiers will have a hard cap with profession template stacking. Defense stacking will no longer stack beyond the intended combat calculation limits causing the defender to be nigh invulnerable.

If the devs give CH def from disease and poison you can bet the ranger community will make quite a stir because the ranger community has been pushing for this for sometime now. Since I am a MCH and Master Ranger I am all for it either way. I personally think it should go with the Ranger ahead of the ch because a ranger is upposedly the all knowing when it comes to the outdoors but I can see the CH side of the argument as well.

I hadn't considered Ranger, but yes that makes sense, and definately feel Rangers need it more...that is if it couldn't be given to both.

I have to applaud all the die-hard CH's who not only stuck with it, but keep offering such great ideas for improving the profession.
Now if only there was a smidgen of evidence that the dev team listened or cared ...

I'm all for CH and ranger getting disease and poison resistance, but keep it at master or very high in the trees for both. And if you wanted to make it gradual, put a little bit at the top slot in each of the four lines of the tree, with a nice boost at master. After all, if someone is a master CH plus master ranger, they aren't making much of a splash in PvP anyway. You don't have the points to master a weapon profession, so why not be super-resistant to disease and poison? Makes great sense!
If you like this idea, please bump this thread with your comments and maybe we can get it on the Devs' to-do list!
