One thing that has bothered me is pet collecting has been reduced to a secondary role, because BE pets are much better. I don't know if this idea has been floated yet, if it has I missed it, but what about allowing BE's to modify an existing pet you have in addition to making pets like they do now?

That way that rare spawn you fine can be enhanced, and it actually makes collecting pets useful again.

That would be nice Although a little unethical, but still a good idea 5 stars.

Interesting. That idea never crossed my mind ... it sounds like it could be a good improvement.

I enjoy collecting pets even though they're not as good as their bio-engineered freak show cousins, but it would be nice if they could be modified to be even almost as good. Maybe the Bio-Engineer could choose to enhance one resistance by say, 30% (with a specified cap on the resistances), and add light armor to it if it doesn't have it already.I think the special attacks should remain the same on the modified pets, though.

Yep, the idea has come up before on both the BE and CH boards.

I think most BE would welcome the idea as long as DNA sampling still played a major part in the process. Im sure most CH would welcome the idea also, but the CH Zealot brigade would no doubt poo-poo the idea as BE is the work of the devil or something...

Oldie but goodie suggestion. I'm one of those CHs who refuses to buy the freakshow BE pets. It's not that I don't like BE pets. It's that I feel no accomplishment in buying a pet. Taming my own is the fun part.

But I'd be more than willing to take my wild pets to a BE for enhancement.

What if this involved the BE sampling your pet with the same dangers/risks as sampling any other creature? It's still kind of ludicrous cause why would you let someone sample your gurreck when they can sample a wild one that is exactly the same, and without the risk of killing your pet.

I'm both CH and BE and I still like wild pets better than BE pets because they are well rounded and balanced much better. if the BE pet has 2k more ham, it doesn't make much difference if you're fighting something huge. If it does 100 more damage, it doesn't make up for a whole lot, if the resists are a bit higher it still doesn't make a noticable difference.

One of my best reasons for a particular BE pet is the specials I can put on it and the size of the creature. No one will want a CL50 rancor in the tusken fort. But, a CL50 vesp with poison and intimidate would rock.

You just can't tame the type of pet that is good in closed places and that also has important specials. I've been in the CH and BE business for a very long time. People buy my pets, and usually lots of them per customer. I hope they're taking good care of them.

I have tried floating this idea as a gene therapy stim. The problem is that BE feel excluded. They believe that their current abilities are perfect in that it is fun and not broken (except where end product CL is concerned).

Left to simply modifying existing pets is not something they want. Unfortunately, IF and only IF, CH's want their role back the only way to get it done is boycott all BE pets until such time we make BE's obsolete.

The problem is they cannot see that the very same processes could be involved. The fun part of sampling for the proper DNA and constructing the proper sequence of genetic coding. The only difference would be that the visual product would be a Stim rather than an animal itself.

This is the best common ground for all of us that wish to collect our own pets rather than simply buy them from BE. It is rather unfortunate that this is the most simple solution but the least agreed upon.

Actually BE's aren't against the idea of altering wild animals per sae. What BE's are against is removing the clone system and only being able to alter wild animals which is how the idea has been floated in the past.

What you fail to keep in mind is that animalsare only one part of what a BE does. We make meds to keep your animal alive, vita packs to bring them back from the brink of destruction, tissues that tailors and chef use to enhance and buff your skills. Boycotting bio-engineers will never make them go extinct.

If I could alter your wild animal and still be able to make the monstrocities I'm allowed to make now I'd be all for it. It would broaden my market and allow creature handlers to tame wild critters knowing those animals can be made better. Why would anyone be against that?

Unfortunately I'm not going to hold my breath for any changes made to CH or any profession for that matter, at least not this year. SOE is busy cranking out JTL so they can have the box on the shelf come Christmas time. Money beats player base happiness every time.

I disagree. This is not the most agreed upon solution. This is only the solution agreed upon by a few guys in this forum.

Most of the CH players in game are perfectly happy to buy BE pets tailored to their needs, and go tame those unusual and rare pets that the BEs can't make.

If you truly wish to collect your own pets, do so. No-one forces you to buy a BE Pet - ever. It is a choice. Your choice - and only your choice.

Please don't make excuses about the relative stats or abilities of the pets. You have a choice - trying to negate the usefulness of BEs is not it.

Revamping the cloning system again doesn't sound that simple to me.
