Thread: Question about aggro holding!

I just reactivated my CH account and was thinking of getting BH with it; havent played with CH since all these changes. How are they at holding aggro? Like if I went after a npc bh mark could they keep the npc busy so I could attack and heal the pet and not have to worry about myself as much or are they not holding aggro very well?

i have trained a CL70 shear mite soldier as tank. the key issue is the aggression 3 ability. as soon as he attacks he wont use aggro anymore. with the defensive and stat enhancing abilities (vigorous health, thick skin, lightning reflexes and guarded stance) it will tank even high level targets. i can do as much damage as i want and heal my pet as much as i want (pet stims dont have cooldown timer) without him loosing aggro.

if your pets dont have the aggression ability they wont hold aggro - as u usually outdamage them easily.

I figured this question is more answered by someone with experience in the new system, hence why I asked it. I guess the main question is do the pets hold aggro efficiently? I know someone can help me out here.

No. I've had this issue for a while. I do not get the option to train a L2 ability, nor a level 3, without the pet first having level one.

It's been... Rather annoying, actually.

I think it's "working as intended" ... altho' you can learn the abilities in any order, you can not train a L2 ability to a pet without first training the L1 ability (or it already hasthe innateL1 ability). To train a pet in a L3 ability will thus take up 3 ability slots.

I've seen some stunning results just by using Aggression L1 on my CL70 Rancor, I can't wait to get Aggression L2 and L3 learnt and taught to him, simply stunning! Of course, i'll soon (i can dream) be training up a new CL80 Rancor...

With a petthat hasinnate Aggression L3 or one trained to Aggression L3 and letting the pet get the first hit in, I never take agro myself ... with the new abilities, pet "tanks" are definately back in the game!

Aggression (L3) is really the only way to go for a Creature Tank. I use a DC-15 rifle with the standard 'Ranged Shot' only (As I am a Master Artisan/Master Shipwright as well) and would pull aggro from my creatures every time, just by shooting.

If you just need a tank, then the defensive/health specials are also something to go for.

Just remember, even if you learn level 3 of an ability, you will need level1 and 2 to train it to another creature. This is one little thing that has me ticked right now, as I got self Sacrifice and Aggression, both level 3, and now I gotta go tame a bunch of lower level stuff to get the L1 and L2 versions, so I can teach 'em to the Rancor (When I can call it, stupid CH Necklace is still hiding)

And yes, I am taking up BH as a supplimental Combat skill.

If you don't really need a custom tank, then get the pet trained in the special attacks you don't have, IE Blind/dizzy/KD/hamstring/etc... It'll really make a difference.

I haven't had to acquire the lower level of a skill to teach the L2 levels. I have hamstring 2 but not 1 and haven't had any trouble. Did this just start happening with this last patch?
