Thread: Leveling this profession is Mind Numbing and stupid

This has got to be the least fun profession to level through. Back when I started, I was excited. I enjoyed capturing babies and hunting with them. By the time I was 2222 I was sick to death of it. This profession totally blows for leveling. My room mate has mastered Commando, TKA, Scout, Ranger, Musician and almost Dancer and I'm still not done. We play approximately the same amount of time per day.

Hunting with pets totally sucks now. If I use my big pets that can actually tank I get less XP. If I use small pets to maximize XP i spend more time trying to keep them alive than fighting. And hunting with pets is slower than baby hunting.

Speaking of baby hunting, this is the most mind numbing excersise I have ever done in a video game in my life. Running around from wild lair to wild lair, looking for babies. Then tame + click + drag + type + click + drag + type + click + drag + type over and over and over. There are no macros available to ease the burden. My wrist hurts, my arm is falling asleep and I've captured.

I am now halfway through my last box. I am almost master CH. Four months ago I would have been excited. Now I don't care at all. As soon as I hit master I'm going to immediately drop it. I used to want to keep the prof and capture rancors and hunt rare babies. I used to want to roleplay this profession. I used to be greatly interrested in it. Now I just want to rid myself of the pain. And the payout for completion isn't that good anyway. The class is horrible for pvp, monster killing is slow, and now that BE's make the best pets, the thrill of the hunt is gone as well.

Sony, CH Correspondent, I hope you read this post and do something to improve the leveling of this class. I wanted it to be fun. Now I just hate it.

Yes, it is mind numbing but, I guess it's kinda worth it.I dunno though in your opinion it's stupid.

I have read, and I've seen a number of other folks also say the advancement feels too slow. I can bring it up with the Devs, but speeding up the rate of XP gain wouldn't solve the problem of you not enjoying the process of grinding XP. It would just mean doing less of something you dislike. Making CH combat feel more fun and rewardingis kind of a larger issue.

I would disagree with you about the profession being stil worth it. A pet is an inferior tank to a melee, it does alot less damage than any other combat class and yet it takes up more points than an elite. I guess I cannot pass judgement before the combat ballance revamp, but as it stands right now, CH stoped being worth it when the pet resist changesand introduction of CoB came in.

As a 2-1-1-1 CH who has been doing it about 3 weeks I have to say I agree with the original post. My buddies, who started when I did, are both moving much faster through other professions. Heck I'm even moving faster through ranger with all that tent sitting. At least the tent is useful after we have taken on larger mobs than we should.

I was finding this really fun and I enjoy riding my cupa a lot but otherwise its just becoming disheartening. I tame every baby I see and that actually causes friction because it makes others wait. I use my pets to fight but I have to keep a datapad full and keep switching them because they take damage so fast. Even then the experience I get for the pets is horribly low.

I'm not even grinding I'm new to the game and in no real hurry to be a master. I'm letting things happen as they come but I'm seriously considering dropping this to go rifleman. At least with rifleman and ranger I can make some credits to buy the stuff that makes the game more enjoyable.

I just got taming 2 last night so maybe when I start taming some of the aggressives it will make my huntingpets a bit better, but watching these boards I really doubt it.

Well, the problem is not that grinding the XP is not fun. The problem is that everything becomes less fun after doing it too long, and it just takes ages to grind through the XP. The first while, it's new and cool and you're having fun imagining what it'd be like to sit deep in the wilds with your powerful pet at your side.

After a while, you'll notice you'll still have nothing but a rabbit rummaging around your feet, who can only perform 4 different commands for you, and there's nothing that makes your pet more than a tool to take damage.

It takes a long long time to master to get that powerful pet who will perform a variety of actions, though that sense of friendship will still be missing (shameless plug for my True Initiative concept around these forums )

If it were quicker, you wouldn't get that sense of boredom and dissapointment you get from doing the grind too long. Just before you get it, you'd make a new skill, get some extra stuff and begin the feeling anew with the spirit of fun and coolness

This was the devs intention.

They were unhappy with the number of CHs and so continually make the class worse and worse.

It got me to quit.

I am one of the lucky ones that got Master CH when you still got xp for each pet you had pulled and not this 1/2 for each pet out crap.

I am not giving CH back despite the big nerf. You are going to have to take it from me.

Salla Jans, my sympathy goes out to you and all those noob CH's trying to make it with what I think is one of the coolest classes to play in this game regardless of SOE's attempt to force most of us out.

i did this profession in 3 days at the geo caves and on rancor hunts on dathomir (mind you it was thurs-sat) so there were actually people at these places that i could leech off of, but nonetheless it was done in 3 days, and i've heard stories of it being done in 1 or 2, so don't call levelling this profession mind-numbing, it was rather easy.... however i do agree that there is no real reward.

The geonosian caves are good, so is ft. tusken on tattoine... it can be made easier if you hunt these larger higher XP places. If you ware in fact trying to level this profession on ANY normally spawned mob (except maybe dant, dath, yavin mobs) you are in for the long haul.

My general rule is that if I can beat something without being buffed, it's absolutely no good for CH experience.

I've gotten to 4/3/3/4 in about 4 days of actually training it... about 3-4 hours a day.... don't know what your problem with it is.... I'll probably get on today and wrap it up... or may take it easy and finish it by tomorrow evening...

a year in Iraq: Sucks bad
coming back to SWG to find things have come full swing and your profession is useful again: AWESOME!

You misunderstand me. I am still a master CH and will be until the day I delete the game. I just got too disheartened with all the nerfs to the CH class. So I just stopped playing.
