Thread: Mounts?

It's all speculation now but, what's everyone's ideas on which critters will be put into the mount cateory? Which will make the best combat mounts? Speed (travel) mounts? Pack animals? Will SOE even specialize critters for different tasks?

I think the obvious ones we've seen all over the movies are Dewbacks (combat), Eopies (pack animal), Gaulamas (speed?), the Taun-taun looking ones - Cu Pas? (speed), Fambaas (Gungan pack/combat). (And people complain that creature handlers ruin immersion; the movies are littered with tamed creatures!) Any other ideas? Will the savage gug drolgs be mountable? Will the smaller characters (read: Bothans) have a different sort of animals for mounts?

It's just speculation, but most likely any pet you saw in the movies where they were mounts will be mountable in game. I'm also guessing theyre gonna make mounts weak or only usable as mounts, so non CH's dont get off their dewback and use it to tank for them. Get ready for those "speederpants!" (a phrase I heard someone else use, pretty funny explanation too. They replace your bottom half with the pet/vehicle and increase your run speed )

I'm just wondering why people think their run speed will increase. Most of the pets that I have used so far, have trouble keeping up with me when I just run at a normal pace. To tell the turth, other than the nice visual, I am wondering what value mounts will actually have in the game.

I think trailing pets only run so fast to keep a certain distance behind you. The only slow pet I've had was a woodland kima. Now those are annoying. I've also had a savage gug drolg that easily kept pace with me during burst run, excepting any lag effects. And everyone knows how fast a wrix can run down anything.

But aside from speed, I think specialized creature roles would be a nice touch. Turn your eopie into a walking backpack. Put a pikeman lancer on a dewback and have them both charge into battle.

True. If they can't move at burst speed or better they can actually be a liabilty. Maybe mounts can move at our regular speed, but they discourage things from attacking you. That might make them useful even if they don't move fast.

I wa actually wondering about land vehicles and mounts in regards to aggro as it's already possible to move fast enough so that you don't see things until they spawn on top of you. What's going to happen when we move faster, are we going to be taking all sorts of hits from things we run into? I'm guessing that's one of the reasons why mounts and vehicles aren't in yet.

And Kaadu on Naboo are very quick, and are often used as mounts by Gungans. that's what I'm going to try and train as my first mount, a nice big Kaadu.

Hmm, that brought up another question, are vehicles/mounts limited to where they can go too? Right now you can pretty much walk anywhere, flat land, mountainous terrain, lava (yes lava, I walked on Lok's volcano, and realized that I wasn't losing health or anything when I walked on the red glowie stuff). I'm wondering if a speeder would be able to go up a steep cliff, and if mounts will move any faster going up/down mountains (cause there's quite a few hilly areas, would suck if we couldnt walk on them with mounts at least).

Creatures I can almost guarantee will be mountable:

Bantha
Dewback
Ronto
Cu pa
Kaadu
Eopie
Tusk cat
Gualama
Rancor (both Malakili, Jabba's rancor tamer, and the force witches of Dathomirwere able to ride them)
Any creature variation that is similar to the above species such as Sharnaffs (similar to Ronto)

I wondered about the difference between mounts and vehicles too. I could see a mount handling rough terrain, but a speeder would seem to need wide open flat land, which I don't find much of.

Someone mentioned that you might not draw as much aggro if you were riding on a creature than if you were walking. I wondered about that too. You would think it would be much easier to mask your scent on the back of a big, hairy, smelly creature than it is just running through the woods on your own.

On the speed question see if you can find someone who has the Warningshot skill. This causes the creature to flee in terror. Use it on a couple of creatures and try and keep up without using a P.Dart and you'll see there are a lot of critters faster than we are.

Ok, you have me convinced that there are many creatures faster than us, but do you really think they are going to run around at "terror" speed all the time :>

Actually I did notice when I was trying to tame one beast, forget the name, I had a heck of a time keeping within training range, but now that he is my pet, he falls behind me a lot when I run. Maybe if I were riding him, he would move faster

so when are these changes gonna happen..My data pad is almost full with growing bantas, dewbacks, cupa's, ronto's? also are you only gonna be able to train them as a baby or do you have to wait till they are full grown then train to mount?

i'm hoping that you'll be able to use any creature with "domesticated" type meat (i.e. like my humbaba). i've never seen a baby sharnaff, so i don't know if they are trainable.
