I am having trouble deciding which one I should be- ranger or CH.anyone have some experiences with either?
Looking for a specific creature without at least Ranger xx3x is amazingly frustrating. You'll essentially be running/flying in large circles looking for the creature you want.
Having gotten Master Scout to begin training Ranger, I'll also note that earning Survival xp will tax your sanity.

It allows you to be close to the critter or enemy for looting and allows you to apply stims to pet if necessary. The Ranger aspect allows you to track and find critters.
That would be my dream template ......except for the fact that i wouldn't be able to heal myself.....very usefull as i often hunt alone ...and unbuffed.....
You need no skills to apply a stimpack d on a pet, but you need to waist 15 SP to be able to use a stim A on yourself
.... i hope they fix that in the combat upgrade...

You won't be able to heal damage in battle, true, but you'll be able to mediate away wounds after a battle.
I used this template in JTL beta, and it's very, very effective when you're just running around looking for babies to tame.
I would advise CH if you want the big stuff and high level pets. If you're just interested in the cat types... go Ranger instead.
If it's about finding them...
Just hire a Ranger to do your tracking for you.
Gives us Rangers some sort of income beyond selling meat and furs.

I use this template too and at completion I am hunting Frenzied Grauls (cl 65) unbuffed and unarmoured, let my combat pets attack and take aggro then chime in to up the DPS.
Additionally I have Stat migrated so that my power boost gives me a 500 pt buff to HAM, lasts for 10 mins and can be immediatedly reapplied, oh and Melee mitigation 3 aint bad either 8)
