Nice job mate

I spent a week looking for screechers, did about 90 lairs, no baby

Then I found an ex-MCH who would sell his for 300k. I look in my inventory - 30k of OQ 900+ woolly hide.....one trip to an armour shop later and I had my 300k (with a nice bit to spare) and one trip to meet that ex-MCH and I had my screecher. Your story was a lot more interesting tho, I feel like I cheated

Excellent story! Glad to hear you got yourself one of those beasts. I've only fought them a handful of times, and didn't enjoy the experience!

Just out of curiousity, why don't people use the "stop attacking" button before taming something? Or better yet, pull out your speeder and tame from on there, and therefore preventing you from hitting the baby you're taming if it agros? I'm not picking on you specifically Tycaliber, as I have seen many people talk about attacking babies when they agro. But a quick tap on the "stop attacking" button, so that the peace icon shows up by your HAM bar will prevent that.

Anyway, congratulations on the screecher! Have fun using it in the future.

Good question....because I've tamed before froma bike. These creatures (which I mispelled in the title of the original post, btw, it's MANTIGRUE), in adult form, have a high detection level. Earlier in the week last week, I had actually come across a baby on one of the missions. The speeder method was attempted, but the adult agroed......I think the speeder moves you in to tame your potential pet TOO fast.....at any rate, I ran and ran away on the speeder in last week's attempt, I lost sight of the baby on my radar way too fast, and when I got back to the lair, everything had reset itself and the baby was gone.

So, with that in mind, in the case of the one I talked about in the story that I actually caught yesterday, I didn't use the vehicle on purpose....because if I was going to have to make a run for it, I was NOT going to lose sight of that baby if I could help it. A swoop would almost guarantee it, per my encounter last week.

The vehicle taming method is good, but it's probably not good for all situations.

I didn't put this in the story, but as SOON as the one that Iactually caught agroed, once I was on my feet and burst running, I always hit the Peace button out of habit. The detection and agro occurred simultaneously, andeven with no brawler skills I took a chunk out of the baby'sHAM just smacking it with my fists.

Tycalibur,

Greetings, congrats, and a great story. I spent nearly two months searching for a Screecher baby, now I have two. It was very helpful being MTK. The wounds just melted away with a bit of meditation. My second Screecher showed up within a week of the first. My first Screecher tame was pretty easy since it came from a non-mission lair with only one adult. I did not have to cope with other adults detecting me nor aggroing one another and killing the child. The most problem I had with that tame was it flying out of taming range. Once it stayed put, I tamed it on the first try.

I have tamed creatues from my speeder before, but typically I do so on foot, simply because reapplying maskscent is easier that way. With high level creatures, my scent always seems to get broken a number of times. A real bummer is when it gets broken and you'reattacked in the middle of a tame. When taming from the speeder, you cannot run a macro for taming as it needs to be started from the radial menu. I have always found that a bit awkward for me. The speeder comes in handy though if you are aggro'd. It can get you out of danger faster, but you have to be careful not to get any further than 128m from the lair otherwise it could despawn on you. Plus, I have found /burstrun to be a bit faulty at times. I have had some babies (anArachne Widow baby to be precise)keep right up with me until it runs out. So eachstyle of taming has its strengths and weaknesses.

As TKM, I have and old stone knife I keep handy when taming. If I can't get to the peace button fast enough, even unarmed, the baby is toast.

Good Luck to All,

FINALLY. A rare tamable worth noting in story form.

Almost a week of hitting the missions on Endor, and nothing. Then on the way back to Research Outpost, my wife and I spotted a large screecher lair. Had 4 adults. We had two Kimos. I said we could take them. And we did. Tapped the lair. EIGHT adults spawned. My wife said 'uhhhhh'. I told her to wait. Still no babies. Then I just finally said to h*ll with this and sent my lvl 58 poison kimo into the fray.

Foolish.

Even my poison Kimo couldn't withstand all of them. My powered up, sliced Krayt Laser couldn't strafe2 enough of them dead. Luckily, my Kimo got 4 of them away from the original 8 and began running away with them from the lair. I chased and chased them for 200m and even got turned around and lost the original position of the nest. I was diseased, and wound up with two of them on my tail. I ran, but to no avail. Plague strike is fatal if it's done on you twice by two creatures ....I saw "You have been diseased" about 4 times in a row as I fell (along with the fact that as a rifleman, most of your stats are devoted to mind). I was slain, and marked the waypoint.

Surprisingly, my Kimo did not get incapped. I regrouped him at the original position, patched him up, and did not wait for my wife to get back. I was bloodthirsty as this point. 5 Mantirgrues remained. I took some Accargam, Won Won and Vasarian Brandy, sent the healed Kimo back in and blasted them. More kept spawning even though the lair had healed and I had NOT tapped it again yet. One. And another, and another. 5 originals to kill plus 5 more that would spawn just before I would kill the previous one.

By this point my stat pools were drained, as was my will. I took a deep breath, stood 64m from the lair, and tapped it, then moved to 70m and remained masked. I waited, and watched my radar as the familiar blips began to appear. Red dot.....red dot......red dot.....red dot......red dot........red dot...................red dot.......

........red dot.......

I was ticked. 4 days of continuous hunting, no babies. I was telling my wife that I was about to open my toolkit to pitch a camp, heal up and go home, and I....

.....YELLOW DOT......

There it was. In a sea of 8 adults. I was happier than a corellian butterfly on bantha poodoo. Then the realization hits me. $#&@!!!! There's no way I can get this baby with all those adults around it. What're the odds? EIGHT adults, at least ONE is going to detect me.....

...then in my self-doubt, the 'flock' began to move, and separate on my radar. The yellow dot moved to the left, with only two red dots moving alongside it. GOOD. That gave me better odds, at least. I knew one thing:

I was going to get this baby, or die trying.

The baby and the adults were moving slowly to the left, so I approached from the far left, outflanking the spawn and the sea of red that had come out of that nest, a little too excited for my own good......

Detected. Crud.

Stopped at 60m. Didn't move a muscle. The baby and the two adults continued moving away. I finally was able to remask 30 seconds (an eternity) later and start walking again. By this point the two adult screechers and the baby were completely broken away from the lair.

I circled round slowly, edging in baby steps towards my target, 20m now. DETECTED. #$#*@*#@!!!!!!!!! SO CLOSE!!!!!!!

I stand perfectly still. I don't move a muscle. I can feel the sweat beginning to bead up on my forehead.

Masked again. Closed the last 10m between me and the baby. I didn't CARE at this point. I slammed my mouse button down on the /tame macro.

"Steady, Don't Be blah blah, etc." Failed. Grrrrrrrrr

Remasked between first and 2nd tame.....

"Good, Er Boy?, etc.." Failed. DETECTED.........AGRO

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

Luckily, I was disarmed and had no unarmed exp, so all I did was smack thescreechera bit......I slapped the burst run button and hit the trail. By my gauge, 4 adults and the baby were on my rear end.

It was almost comical at this point.I don't even know what direction I ran, I just made sure it was in a straight line, and made sure I kept the baby targeted......I thought to myself, "There's no chance".....but I kept running. Tom Cruise's words from Minority Report kept running through my mind...."Everybody runs".

One by one, the adults pursuing me dropped their chase. The baby was still on me.

At last, well over 200m away from the lair and 90m from the infant, the baby stops. It is retreating back towards the lair with one adult by its side.

I still had a chance....and I was still burstrunning.

I took off like h*ll back to the baby, and I noticed as I got closer, the adult disappeared! It despawned. At first I'm thinking, YAY! Then I thought, WAIT.....what if the baby despawns too? ARGH...... 50m..........20m.......10m.....5m, slammed down the /tame macro again.

At this point, I'm spent. Fully expecting another agro that I can't run from (because now I've slowed down, because I'm tired), I wait. I mask my scent yet again...................

You have tamed the creature.

I just about fainted.

I finally caught up with my wife, who had a nice camp set up for us. For some reason, I was mixed with relief and triumph, but also depression and regret. Regret knowing that I can probably never use this creature against a formidable opponent. I pull it out, train it in all commands, then begrudingly put it away. It was a bittersweet ending to a rare tamable chase that began 4 days ago, but I got one at last.

The End

heart-stopping story

i can remember months ago when i experienced your same frustration at tapping and seeing red dot after red dot and just about ready to call it quits for the day when on lair #105 the baby popped, i wasnt paying attention, and it attacked me...then my one friend yells "BABY" over and over again, im like....huh? and right as my weak hand-to-hand skills was about to kill the baby, i peaced and ran. left it with about 20% health left. got it 8 tries later.

can you imagine how long my bull rancor baby story will be if i ever tame one? lol

Nice story I went through something similar a few days ago when I tamed my arachne widow baby. I'd been looking for one for a good few weeks. Since my husband does most of his hologrinding on Endor I had plenty of opportunity to find one. It turned out to be themost stressful time of my gaming life. I kept being aggroed, so I ran, but with a sea of red dots and other creaturesso close(mainly other kinds of spiders who would more than happily give chase to me if they saw the wee baby doing the same), I was afraid of running too close incase I was aggroed by other creatures or they aggroed the baby. After about the 6th attempt I tamed it and I couldn't believe it. Phew!

The story behind my Screecher is far less interesting. I was harvesting some of that nice Wooly hide that was in a few shifts back, and being a TKM, everything wooly got beaten on. I wasn't really bothered about looking for a screecher -if one came out in my travels, great.SoI whacked this one lair anyway and a baby popped out. The first time I attempted taming it aggroed me, and did the ol' peace n' run routine. Second attempt it came safe and sound to my datapad.

Great story! It felt like I went through that much heck thefew daysbefore I got Requiem. It always feels great to finally tame the rare you've been after for days. I know because I swore I almost had a heart attack after failing four times to get my Screecher and getting him on the fifth time with no agros or detections.

Excellent, excellent job.
