Thread: An MCH and PVP...

I've been an MCH for quite a long time now. All this time I was happy to sit idly by and watchthe PVP going on. MCH has keptme busy for so long, butthe last few weeks have given me the blah's for the CH profession. Not because I don't like my pets, but because I need a change for awhile.A few days ago I decided to hell with it, I'm gonna join in and have some fun with PVP. I chose to be Rebel, because of the challenge and because it's better to fight the good fight against unbeatable odds than join the evil Empire that has the advantage. With this in mind I went to Anchorhead, Tatooine and grabbed some Rebel missions from the recruiter. Four missions later I had enough to join the Rebellion. It's been a few days now and I wanted to post my finding so far as an MCH using pets and Pistoleer in PVP...

I've been on two raids to bases, Kor Vella killing Imp NPC's, the Corellian PVP battlefield and in/around Coronet's cantina and starport. This is just in the last few days. Here's what I've learned:

  • Pets are viable in PVP if you use them properly: Use your pets to poison/disease/knockdown/stun/dizzy/blind/torment players/etc.

  • Pistoleer does a good job in PVP, especially against unbuffed players.

  • Buffs, drugs and food make a huge difference in PVP and can make melee classes seem impervious, which is why you should play a support role in a PVP group and stay a safe distance.

  • If you are buffed yourself and you use these tools at your disposal (food, drugs) it will go a long way.

  • Realize that you will die often and that your pets will lose vitality. Letting go is something you're going to have to do.

  • The best fun is in groups.

These are my current observations. I think if you go into PVP with a positive attitude and some ideas you will have a good time and make a difference with your pets and your Pistoleer. And don't forget there are some changes coming for the fighting professions, so we will most likely have it even better once that hits. What I'm trying to say is it's not impossible to be viable in PVP. Yes, you'll die a lot, but so do other professions.

Please post your experiences.

I wouldn't send pets in on a turret anyway (even if I could) since the damage the turret does is too devastating to the pet. What I'm using is three pets at once. Two BE narglatches and a zero bugged rancor. Three pets on one person plus your group members can be extremely confusing and making it hard for one person to keep up with, but the idea really is to get the pets on there and poison/disease the target to take away their health. If you can land poison spray or plague (Gaping Spider Recluse and Screecher) on someone it can be harsh. Blindly sending a pet in and hoping for the best isn't a good tactic.

Unless you run small pvp battles, using your pets is a waste of vitapack untill the combat revampe is done.

This week end I was invovled in few bases raid ( more than 20 vs 20 players ) and once again it showed me how week the pets are in the current system.

If PvP is what you want to do, CH is a waist of skill points. I've been MCH for 5-6 months, unless you count noobs, I couldn't kill people even with Flame 4 in Commando with MCH. Any person w/ expwho participates in PvP knows CH is a waist of skill points. You maybe able to keep that person busy for 10 seconds while your Rancor eats fists, but thats all CH is: A 10 second version of WaryCry using pets, lol.

You say to use pet specials to hurt them, sorry I'm on my back 95% of the timebefore the first special sticks. I'm not saying MCH is worthless, otherwise I wouldn't keep it through holo-grinding. I'm just saying for PvP you may as well lube up before every battle reguardless of the skills you have from pistoleer.

Case in Point

This evening me and a couple friends got together and took on a TKM and a Master Pistoleer with CH pets. None of us were buffed. Me and my friends decided we were going to take them by surprise since they were running around overt. So, I went and got my overt status for an hour and we crept up on them. I sent in my two BE narglatches on the Master Pistoleer and he went down in a few seconds, then the TKM came up on us and I sent my pets on him while he was fighting another TK and I was shooting Pistoleer 2/2/4/2. The end result was all that was left were the CH'spowerful dewback mount (we're talking 60 kinetic and 85 other resists) and his cat, which was comparable to one of my nargies. We took the pets down and waited. The TKM came back and walked right up to us non-chalantly acting like he was done and poof, he attacks. My pets were on him in a second and I ran out of range. He quickly became a corpse at our hands and that was the end of it, they didn't come after us anymore. lol None of us were buffed, except the TKM, but he must've had crappy buffs.

In my opinion it's the defense stacking that's really hurting the CH pets in combat. That and high kinetic armor. I'm ok with the armor, but the defense stacking has to go. This is making people extremely god-like and it's unfair to those of us that would like to PVP and have an artisan (or CH) profession as well. Everyone should be able to get involved in PVP and have an equally good time. When power players are able to stack defenses from multiple professions it's unbalanced and unfair to the rest of us. I do believe pets would have a role in PVP if the stacking is done away with. I believe people are stacked so far beyond normal that they cannot be hurt unless a mob attacks them at once. This is what I believe to be the true plight of CH pets in PVP right now. And it's also affecting those of us without the points for two fighting professions just to stack stats.

Exactly. What would pet specials do to anyone anyways in PvP?

"Oh no, I am intimidated. I am poisoned. 150 per tick. Terrible. Oh my goodness, I am stunned."

Pet specials are as big of a joke in PvP as the pets themselves. CH is just about a primary PvE profession...

I can't believe I just read that. How is it unfair that a person that devote his SP to making a fighting character should win all the time vs a part time fighter?

PVP was made for everyone to enjoy. If it were for just people that picked multiple fighting classes then it would be alienating all the other players that would have no chance in PVP. Defense stacking is plain wrong. It makes no sense to get twice the defense on the same stat from two different professions. It's unbalanced and god-like for those that can't compete with more than one fighting profession. As I've said in another thread, the devs left us enough points to have a non-fighting class AND a fighting class. Why is this? Because fighting classes were meant to be able to standalone. Defense stacking is going to be removed, no ifs ands or buts. To not do so means to leave out all other players in the game from PVP and make them useless (which is how it is now) when up against god-like defense stacking.

As for specials, I've been able to get off poison and disease on players with my pets and had it work awesomely. The fact that a TKM can meditate away poison/disease and fire effects is ludicrous and wrong. It might be able to be diminished, but disappear? Pffft.

Freth as almost always, I agree. Now hear me out Defense stacking is wrong in the sense that CH got nerfed. I mean the balance bat must always swing both ways. CH was nerfed because people who had plenty of Skill Points left over used them to be TKA, Comm, BH, Rifleman, Pistoleer.
When you take into account that CH was diminished, you have to rebalance the others. But in some aspect I do feel really sorry for some who legitimately choose their profession. I know I was logical but legit Sniper/CH, pet tanks I do ranged damage. So what I really believe needs to be done is allow stacking but take away 50% from everything.

Hey our pets lost their armor, that was 50% of our defenses.

If you wanted us nerfed then expect our outcry.

I am currently working on CH, and do a bit of PvP, so I have some comments to make. Here is the problem for a CH in PvP: Say an MCH pulls out a Rancor to PvP with against a Swordsman or Pikeman or Fencer or Rifleman or BH or whatever. Suppose said Rancor is one found in the wild, as most MCHs are philosphically inclined toward natural pets. Then this Rancor is pretty much the same as one found in the wild. And a Swordsman or Pikeman or Fencer or Rifleman or BH can solo a Rancor in the wild. I hope we can all see where this going.

Guess what, most Combat Types leveled by killing thousands of critters, thenyou try and defeat them by pulling out 1 creature, when the combat type can solo a whole lair of them?? Of course a Swordsman/CH beats a Swordsman in PvP, but if you want to PvP, you need to pick up actual combat skills, not just get angry when you get whipped as a combat support class.

But if defense stacking isn't removed, there would be no point in doing what everyone else does, then no point to other combat professions.

Just standing there, letting the skill mods do the work for you isn't tactics...
