the manual says you have to give it commands starting with a name. Check page 143 in the manual it explains there. Apparently you'll need to have at least 4 commands available for it to work, as I haven't been able to name a pet yet.

Aye, I've heard the advice that you give a pet four commands that start with its name and it will learn the name.... and it worked for me a few times.

I tamed a pig-like thing on Tatooine and named him Football by giving him commands like "Football, kill!" and "Football, punt!" and so on. He took the name just fine.

However, my pet Humbaba and pet Bull Ronto are still (baby) even though they both have four commands, each with their name at the front of the commands.

I've talked to some other Creature Handlers and they pretty much just say "yeh, a bug"... I've also noticed that sometimes when my datapad gets borked and I can't destroy / add waypoints, the pet's commands don't display properly. /shrug

But then, the datapad is rife with bugs. I just wish I could name my pets

Also, naming is case sensitive.

If you say "bambi attack" and "Bambi follow", your pet's name won't change. If you use a macro remember to make sure that the case is the same.

When your chat is shown, the first letter is automatically capitalized but that means your pet won't recognize what you mean.

I'm trying to use the color coding mentioned in the tips of the week to setup some cool names for my pets. I thought it would be funny to see if making the name text red would make the pet look like it was aggro (ok I'm easily amused :smileyhappy.

To do it on a house I would name the house "\#FF0000\My Red House Name", but when I do it on my pet I get an error message "Empty string in prose text" or something like that.

Has anyone else colored their pet names?

I'm sure this has been brought up in the past but I'm new to this board so I figured I would ask. What names do you guys have for your pets? Do you have a method for naming them? Just curious is all.

Really, whatever pops into my head. Sometimes I'd ask members of the guild if I got stuck on a name, or they'd make suggestions. That's how my first GSP got his name (Butch), how my dewback got his name (Huey), how my CRC got his (Bama).

Some pets I planned names for; my mottled wrix reminded a pet from my childhood, so he got called Boots. My gurreck I had already planned a name for, another cat from the past, Nikita, a Russian Blue from my teens.

Then there was the rancor. It took me a while to come up with an appropriate name for him. Candyass.

I started out with whatever popped into mind (such as Baby, Chester, Punkin), then moved on to mythological names (Hades, Loki, Hera, Juno), and now I have a thing forusing names that start with the letter "M", especiallyfor my pairs(Maeve & Morag, Marduk & Magnus).

I usually name pets for an attribute or something I thought of. Before I dropped CH for the hologrind, I tried to name pets after various elements, and then after I got it again, I started naming a few after extinct animals, but kind of dropped that

Mountain Squill: AlienRaptor because I think it sort of looks like a Velociraptor, and its alien.

My two Mountain Dewbacks: Dune and Arrakis after the Dune series of books and very appropriate for Tatoonian natives

Angler: Venom, because it uses poison (venom).

Giant Angler: ImpEnvenomator, I thought of this while waiting for someone at the Rebel hidden outpost on corellia and I think its pretty funny

Graul Mauler: Rocky, same name it had when I bought it, I just thought its a nice name for a graul, so I kept it.

Merek Asassin: VenomousSpidermonkey, I just thought it was cool and a merek is a spider/monkey cross.

Thats all I can remember ATM since I'm not ingame. I haven't named all of my pets though.

This is a little offtopic, but I named my combat droid (a R3 unit) RancorFlea, while using it as a distraction against rancors and it really doesn't do much more than annoy rancors

Lessee...

a roba named Bacon to go with a kaadu named Eggs; Leonid; Rex (a kwi); Pekochu (you guess the species); Stinky (strong poison attack, don't stand behind him); Mittens; Jezebel; and a few others I've forgotten.

None of them are particularly immersive, I know, but no one I've met has yet objected.

Thanks for the responses guys. I was definitely thinking about using mythological names, hopefully some good ones are still open. I also like the idea of names from other sci-fi universes as at least it is sci-fi. I really like the names Dune and Arrakis as I really like the Dune Universe.

I use names of my favorite characters from video games or movies and symbolic names from movies along with Norse names for the more dragon-like beasts. But I also use planned, everyday words for some of my pets like Requiem (my Mantigrue Screecher), Blitz (my Festering Squill) and names that seem to suit them. Ialso tend to name them after my favorite bands.
