Don't let these guys get ya down, life in the wild as a CH/combat profession is fairly simple, my template is MCH/TKM/0004 rifleman and lately I've been on the ever ellusive bull rancor baby hunt (as a disclaimer I also run around with a master doc/master CM on my second account, but throw in medic instead of TKor buy pet stims and I'm sure you would be fine) Due to the absolute power of the bull rancor's poison, I am using my pet and my rifle to combat the lairs and I must admit that I am having no trouble at all (by the way I am not buffing myself or wearing any armor whatsoever), the biggest issue there is the plaguestrike which someone else wrote goes away when the pet is stored (I just would use my doc's cure disease to get rid of it) granted you are goign to be using a lot of stims/petstims on your pet, but all in all the old send in the pet and back him up with your combat profession is working great for me still in the endgame - the only real problem is the 100% kinetic resist mobs, and even they just take some extra time due to the fact I have to use my rifle instead of my TK. (by the way, my expirences have taken me to the bottom of some of the nastier dungeons in the game that I have found (nightsisters, mokks, force crystal hunters, mutant rancors) all without problems and usually solo (playing both accounts) or with just 1 friend (usually buffed for them though just as a safety zone for me)
To me, the CH profession is still very viable and worthwhile, just a small note from expirence, I usually choose smaller pets, they can be just as powerful or more powerful than the big pets and allow you to monitor how the fight is going much easier without having to try to target around your pet or just plain not being able to see. Also for leveling purposes I would suggest a fast pet, all of the lantern birds from endor can keep up with a swoop and are very resiliant in a fight, also the gurricat/gurrek can keep up pretty well with a speeder, these suggestions are more for if you are grouping and don't want to be left behind rather than soloing though, for soloing PVE - kinetic resist, light armor (on higher level critters) and straight up HAM are your friends

Shadowplay, I did just that today for kicks. I went out into the wilds of Corellia to hunt a Great Plains Stalker with NO BUFFS because there weren't any docs around at the time, soI took my chances.I took myLight Lightning Cannon and wearing composite armor boots as the only armor I wore.
I found a GPS and Idied rather quickly when I engaged him. It was over very very fast. Goodluck in taking on a GPS wtihout buffs and hardly any armor. Maybe a TKM would have a better chance.

I'm fairly stubborn in game (probably gonna come back to bite me :smileywink
and I have yet to get the big doctor buffs. I've only got a couple of CH boxes at this point so I haven't been out dealing with anything big and scary yet. My question is will there be any chance of me going off to track the big elusive critters like GPS and bull rancor (hey I gotta try, right?) without being fully buffed, best armor, etc.? I'll go the steroids route only if I must. I'm low in the rifleman tree and the CH tree so this is all just thoughts for my future survival.

Point is that most of the time it's just me, my rifle and my pets. I don't have the toughness of fully buffed and armored people with the best weapons and I don't have anyone else with me to help dish out damage. I wear some decent wookie armor, but it's not the new uber armor. I have a good laser rifle, but of course it's not like the top end T21s.

I don't tend to grind out professions so hey by the time I get to MCH maybe we'll have some fixes in from the devs

I went to dathomir to find a gaping spider recluse and found a baby near the prision ..5 times i went to tame it with only my normal clothes and a taming jacket +13 CT and munching +10 to CT food ...5 times it aggro'd me and 5 times i got posioned and on the 6th try i found it dead by the hands of storm troopers.
All that time wasted waiting for posion to subside for nothing.

hey I know what your saying avoiding the buff binge, however if you want to make it up CH this year(just kidding) I recomend getting a high HAM creacher, at a low level( a Cowardly Gurreck is very good and only lvl 15,with about 3k HAM), make sure you either can fend for yourself very well against rancors, or have someone who can(TKM< Master Swordsman) go hunting them and hold your pet back till the rancor has about 1/3 HAM left then send him in for the kill.....you get 1500xp per rancor(enraged) ,no matter how much damage your pet does as long as he score one hit on it, and it helps going up the tree fast......I wouldn't do thid unbuffed though...cause then both you and your pet will be corpsicles out on dath. This also might give you a plan for when you master CH and want to go find the eluseve Bull Rancor baby. Oh and the Rancor missions pay very well so you won't have to worry about paying for highpriced buffs as much. Sorry I couldn't tell you " sure go ahead you don't need any buffs at all to get close to that Rancor, just tell him your just looking around and you won't bother him....you'll be ok"...LOL. Not getting at you Jet (honest)!
GPS's are easy since they spawn singly - so no adds to worry about. Just sic your strongest pet on to it and keep it healed.
Crowd control is the key when fighting "naked" - you have to keep aggro on your pet, usually by staying at range and/or running. If the MoB aggros you it's time to hit /burstrun, /peace.
I haveNO weapon skills, pets are my only weapons,and don't use Doc buffs (although my armour is pretty good). I can solo Rancor lairs (not quickly - takes about 45 minutes to an hour per lair). You just have to use a lot more strategy and take your time.

Since I dropped tkm for rifle, I dont buff and my armor hasnt been out of my back pack. I use brandy for mind and i did keep the tka meditation line to get my health up to about 1k. I also dont like healing pets so I usually snipe until the odds are in my favor. then put the pets to work.
I've thought hard about dropping Ch. not because of what has been done to it, but in terms of how useful it is to me with my playing style. I've come to the conclusion that with my playing style, not liking to have to be buffed, there is no other profession that will alow me to hunt with the success that I enjoy now. I hunted endor, no armor, no buffs and was capped once, a widow warped to me. my pets did there job, tanking queens, screechers and widows and a few meraks with no losses.
The profession you use with CH has a great deal to do with how you can play, but with the proper play style, ch is a major +
