Someone in the Dev group said "Hey throw em a frikken bone so they shaddup..."
Say hello to your frikken bone my friend ![]()

just logged on, and all my pets have the same icon "PET", i was under the impression they would be different for different functions ....
seems all it does is help you prevent a player from a wild pig..
am i missing something?
no no...I think it is working...I just loged on and I get a "nerfbat icon" for all my pets...mmmmm - special
None, of course! In order to come up with a different icon, they'd have to determine what a pet's role is in the first place. What, did you expect them to actually give pets a role to fulfill in the game? Duh.
Apparently the fact that pets (and only pets) had a big gaping hole where their group icon should be, wasn't a good enough clue for people to identify them as such. So they had to come up with an icon that says PET.
Way to grab that low-hanging fruit, SOE! Keep reaching for thoseminor, easily-accomplished-in-5-seconds-of-workgoals! If I were a teacher, rather than fail you and have to put up with your nonsense for another year, I'd just give you a C- and let you become the next teacher's problem. Good work!
Did we CH's do something in a past life to peeve all the devs off or something?
(Not that I can actually get into the game to check my new super duper "pet" icons as the thing keeps freezing up on me each and every time... *starts twitching... again*)

Nope... you've got it spot on.
Apparently, some players got confused and tryed pvp'ing with a grouped dewback. So this now stops that embarrassing situation.

Yes, we did.
Or rather, I should say, the rest of you may have, if you were here back then, since I only started CH in January.
Way waaay back, from Launch till the Great Pet Nerf of November 2003, CHs were pretty much the only actually functioning elite combat-related prof in the game. They didn't have "specials" really (the pets did of course).. each box just upped the level of the pets you could control and added a new command, and unlike combat specials, the commands actually (for the most part) worked (gasp!). Because CHss were actually functioning, and the other elites like BH and Carbineer were not working so well (Carbineers, for instance, did more damage to their own action than their target's for most specials, LOL), people slowly figured this out, and after a couple of months, almost everyone had some CH in their template. Once that happened, the towns were flooded with creatures... rancors were everywhere, along with fambaas, graul maulers, gurrecks -- any high quality pet that could be tamed, you'd see a dozen of on your way from the cantina to the starport. People started calling the game "pet wars" and complaining about the un-SW like feel (which, admittedly, there was). CHs came to be hated by pretty much everyone else, because again, their stuff was working, so it looked way more powerful than the other classes, whose stuff was not.
The solution to this was not to fix all the bugged specials of carbineers and swordsmen and the like, which would've take probably till now or even beyond, as there were so many, but to nerf the bejeezus out of pets. Ever since then, the devs have been very sensitive to the fear that "pet wars" could return, and they are going to make certain that it never does, by making sure that CHs can never do what they did back during those early days -- which was basically own any other profession in combat.
I think the goal -- balance -- is a good one. But it's going to be very hard to convince the devs we need more of anything, because they are so gun-shy about the "pet wars" fiasco.

I have watched some of the movies recently and in the time period this is supposed to be there are a LOT more animals (in the remakes) then there are Jedi. Go figgure. Someone always trying to rewrite history.

Tsk Tsk, you'd think Lucasarts would care, but it might very well of been their marketing team that got the game in the shape it's in now with the CU in the first place....
