Just a curiosity question, sort of in response to the "when did you get MCH" thread. Somthing for everyone else who may not be Master yet.

I'm simply wondering who hasn't been a CH since "before the dawn of time", aka pre-nerf?

What's your level in the proffession now?

Do you enjoy being a CH?

Did you know about the nerf before you started?

If so: what made you decide to take it up anyway?

If not: would knowing have effected you choice?

Novice CH 2 months prior to the nerf.

Didn't achieve Master until just after the nerf (missed enjoying the 'uber' days of MCH by about a week).

Ok my bad. I meant who wasn't a Creature Handler at all before the nerf that reduced the power of the proffession, not just a non-master.

I should have made that a bit clearer.

I had a character before the nerf, and am currently near master on a new character started completely after the nerf. The only thing I can say is that I'm using a totally different method to level my new character.

I have been a CH for about 3 weeks now. I am currently 1 2 1 2 in CH. I dont have the faintest clue as to how powerful the CH profession was prior to the nerf as I have been playing SWG for only two months. I find that tamimg and releasing low level babies nets me about 900XP now which is much more than I get if I use my low level pets against midrange mobs. BE pets last longer as tanks but I find it quicker to tame and release on a n00b planet like Naboo or Corelliawhich spawns tons of babies.

I almost quit the other day to pursue a purely combat oriented template - bugs like the pet autostore gets really frustrating. But, CH adds variety to the game for me. There are times when I dont feel like shooting at things so searching for a pet that I want keeps me interested in the game at these times.

There really are two "the nerfs", but I think that pub 5 in December is THE nerf.

There was the August nerf that took away three rancors out and set up the cert system, which fairly radically transformed the profession.

But the pub 5 nerf in December was even more radical, as the nerf bat swung unmercifully and zapped nearly every last creature below CL 40, taking away light armor, reducing resists, and simultanously rasing CLs. It also restructured the calling system to make dabbling for high level pets very difficult. And it extended the grind to MCH by taking away the XP gain from a second pet at management III.

I had Master Creature handler in publish 2, months before the creature handler nerf.. I will say this, creature handlers back in the days was a profession to be feared an were very respectible. Creatures gave players even in good armor hell, an it took alot of fire power to take down good pets.

Now adays with creatures in pvp, or in pve they just plain suck. I hate to say it alot of Creature handlers flare has died although some of the newer ch stuff is nice, I did remaster it after the changes but honestly. I was very sad the former power a creature handler had was completely striped as the pets we get in the wild now really suck unless your lucky to find really good pets which is rare in itself. But we mainly rely on bio-engineers for speciality pets we cannot find. But I have to admit bio-pets really are awesome if you got a person that knows his stuff. But sadly, creatures still do jack damage in pvp, an die way to fast.

Anyhow, if you do not beleave me I do have posts in this form dating back quite a bit. I been pretty much comming back from time to time to read what is going on seeing if the profession changed or was adjusted for the better. Unforantly, SOE hates Beastlord type classes, if you ever played everquest when the Vah'shar came into play you know what I am talking about. ^-^

Back in the day everyones armor was junk, our weapons were subpar and most of us had no idea what we were doing. It wasn't that CH was overpowered the other profs were underpowered. Or I should say underequipped maybe.

CH is a support prof. If you use it that way its not that bad. I know its not uber in PvE like TK but its really not bad at all. I'm MRM and MCH and I cantake everything but the most uber stuff. CH is nice if you solo a lot.

In PvP we suck at levels that make people feel sorry for us. I never pull my pets for PvP. Its not worth the vit loss.

If they hated the Vah Shir BSTs so much, then why could BSTs solo pretty much anything in the game, including thier own epic? =p

They don't hate the class, they're just still trying to find the exact mix to make it reasonable.

I was not a CH when the first BIG ONE hit

I became a CH about a month after it happened.

So no I wasn't here on first one, yes I was here on second one.

*raises hand*

i dropped crafting sometime in mid-dec iirc. which was after the 2nd nerfing. i had always admired CH however and i knew i disliked having to have buffs everywhere i went so CH just worked out for my playstyle.

with my pets keeping mobs off me, i can hunt wherever i wish, unbuffed or buffed. granted they need healing alot but i havent had 2 many problems for the most part. its enjoyable and keeps me interested in the game.
