Cause I am enjoying someone else getting nerfed into uselessness and discussing the support vs combat profession thing.
This board is looking familiar..........
I have this sudden sense of deja vu looking over the topic and discussions.
I know!!!!
It looks like the CH boards did in December after our Great Nerf..
Welcome to being "balanced" and the Great Support vs Combat roll debate.
It's a shame that the devs and others have a different vision for professions than the people that actually play them.
I am so enjoying this.
As sky said
When they came for...... Others protested I was silent
When the came for me there was no one left to protest

CMs can actually still hurt people in PvP and PvE.
The only difference is they lose maybe 100dmg off a tick. I know, i was a CM.
CHs used to be pretty good in PvP when pets did damage, however they still died mega fast then.
Now we have mega fast dying pets AND no damaging pets. = We are useless.
Even BE pets makes our Tames seem useless and rubbish.

I'm a BE and I know the pets we make are fairly stronger then CH tamed ones, but that's the purpose of BE!
Anyone that thinks it's easy or even quick to find the certain animal to sample, then actually do it without getting attacked (I dare you to try walking up to a mutant rancor and not be attacked, which is the DNA we need for our best pets, unless you use strange recipes like I do).
Sampling is hard to do when it rarely works on high level animals, mask scent can break and you end up on a trip to the cloner because you can't sample while the animal is fighting.
Then there's the issue of even figuring out what dna to use to make a decent pet!
This isn't like other crafting profession where you know exactly what you need because each sample has different stats. A combo that worked once can come out very different the next time. There's also different qualities on the dna from the same animal, the list goes on and on.
BE makes pets for others, we can't use them ourself (aside from the non-ch of course). Before talking about how BE takes away from CH you need to remember that BE pets are in the game to ENHANCE CH since alot of them are agro skins, or have a minimum level too high for a non ch.

You have to also remember - Our pets were nerfed, but because ALL animals were nerfed!
The all knowing devs nerfed all animals for the combat revamp, but then pushed it back to the day after h3ll freezes over.
Back then I would stay the heck away from rhoa kwi because of their medium armor, and when I saw someone with the blood mite queen (I believe that's what they were), I was actually afraid of them.
They had medium armor, and like all pets with it were something to be feared, especially the dreaded ones with med armor AND poison or disease, or even the dreaded ar2/intimidate combo.
But alas, CH became useless with that one patch for a revamp that will never happen.

My point is....
BE still have a role and purpose in Chef Foods and Tailor Clothing.
Making Pets was a 1 week facade.
The fact is, BE should use totally unique skins, like Kimo. These pets should be special and untameable in the Wild. But also defined in their purpose.
I spend 45minutes taming a Merek Deaths Head baby which is third rarest pet in the galaxy (CL 54) only for it to get beaten by a 60% kinetic 7k ham Strong Poison Bunny Rabbit... Totally Unrealistic and unfair.

I try to stay out of the CH/BE debate...but I'm gonna comment here. It took you 45 minutes to tame that Deaths Head, but it probably took the BE who made that death-bunny about 2 hours to get the DNA. As a BE and almost 2-time MCH I see both sides of the coin, and it ain't easy from either side. I would like for BE pets to have unique skins, but do you think the dev's are gonna put something like that in? Extra work to make CH's happy? That reality check will bounce about 10 times...there's a reason why only a few BE's make CH pets now. Not only are there fewer CH's to buy them, but the pain and frustration of making a good CL 45+ pet is ridiculous. Spend 6-7 hours sampling the meanest critters on Endor, then fail on 2 or 3...end up with 4pets if you're lucky...so 6-7 hours of time, probably 5 deaths, which is on the low side, and then mixing and matching and having none of the specials stick, or come out all wrong. It's the only thing that comes close to the thrill of taming...sneaking up to that mantigrue reaper spawn and trying for samples...

I didn't think this was a thread about BE's but since it seems to be I would like to comment. BE pets rock! Ok before I get kicked off of the boards let me explain. My rares are just that...I would no more take the chance of my screecher or swampy or any of the others losing vitality than I could fly. BE pets are tough in combat and that is the way they were made and why. If I go to my favorite BE and tell her what I want she works for hours sometimes filling my order. Then tells me all bright and cheerful "just pay what you think it's worth". Well sdome of the combat pets she has made for me if I paid what they were worth would make a big dent in my savings. Of course the BE I use is also master ch so she understands about the love for the real pets. BE pets are there to be db'd my babies aren't. Even if the real petsd were made tougher I work too hard taming and training them to see them hurt. The pet stims are great too...would have lost lots of pets without them. I consider BE and enhancement to CH. Sure I wish we could tame as good in the wild...it isn't fair we can't...but would still use the bio before my real ones just because that is their purpose...to die in lieu of our babies

Well, I am tired of hearing how tough sampling is. It has been a long time since you could walk up to the lair of what once was a decent pet and find a baby waiting. The CH usually had to kill quite a number of very tough critters at a number of lairs before they would even see a baby. Most CH's are were very familar with the cloning center. Then, depending on the creature and your level, it can take quite some time to tame it. It was just as hard, if not harder, to tame a good pet as it is to sample good DNA. I died 14 times and it took 2 and a half hours to tame my first TMB but it was a good pet back then. Now it is crap and a non-ch can have a BE exploit that will kill it with no problem. Try wiping out 300 Bull Rancor lairs without finding a baby then tell me sampling is hard. When you finally do find one, a BE could have made a few hundred better pets in the time it took to find one.

Greetings
I just wanted to weigh in on this. I am master CH have been for over a year now, much to the chagrin of my friends who have all moved on to melee professions. I am also Master BE on my other account.
IF I had my choice to make anything, I would never ever ever make another tissue, additive for a tailor or a chef. That has got to be the most boring job in the game.
Making pets is awesome! That aside it is very very very hard. I spent 2 solid days on dathomir trying to get DNA from Mutant rancors. I got 10 samples, I was killed 23 times. You have no idea the toll that takes on your clothes etc.
I hunted for young Malkoc Plainswalkers, no dice.
I sampled Deaths Heads Mereks, died there too.
I got horned voritors, died there.
I got some craggy bolmas, died there too.
I am master BE/Master Musician, I do not kill the animals I sample except through my needle.
Just a little intro. You find a group of mutants, you sneak up. Mask scent/ jawa beer/ clothes over +100 in mask scent 8/10 times Mutant rancors will break your mask scent. Most Mutants are found around the Sarlacc pit, so are nightsisters and other entertaining things. Running from a mutant rancor I have run through a spawn of nightsisters. They upside is they only incapped me because the Mutant rancor hit them right after me. You know how long a Mutant rancor lasts with 4 night sisters, not long.
I love making pets. It takes a long time and nothing is guaranteed. It takes forever to figure out what DNA will do what, and what experimentation in what slot will do what. I don't make Level 10 monsters, I think it's an exploit. But I love making High level, High HAM, High Damage, Armored pets that really help CH's in the wild. I expect to be paid for these pets and I expect them to be working pets.
SO if you are on Kauri server and need a pet send me Aturius Hawkwing an email and I will see what I can do. It isn't always possible to create exactly what you want but we do give it our best shot.

As a MBE/MCH, I think I can see both sides of the issue, or at least I think I have a valid opinion when it comes to the BE pet debate. Taming pets in the wild is very hard sometimes, and it certainly takes a lot of time to find those rares we all dream about. I have spent countless hours riding around the riverlands looking for a GPS (no success yet- not even an adult) but I enjoy looking. That's what taming wild creatures is all about. If I do ever catch one, that baby is not going anywhere near a battle, unless it is with gnorts or durnis. It would be nice to have the opportunity to catch a great pet that could stand up in battle as well as my BE pets, but if there was such a creature, don't you think that it would be super-rare and no one would use it for combat anyway? Or if the proposal is to have many great creatures, then that means that there are going to be that many more great DNA samples out there and therefore better BE pets.
I think that the point of the CH profession is to train you to use pets, and part of that training includes how to tame them. For combat though, you are fully equipped mentally and just need to be outfitted with your weapon, just like any other combat profession that uses weapons. It's the same as a master pistoleer saying that they want to be able to loot their weapon off of a NPC..... maybe could be done (I don't know- can it?) but it's much easier, and you get a better result, if you just pop down to your local weaponsmith and buy a gun. It is hard to be completely independent in this game, I think it was made that way on purpose, to encourage an economy and player interactions. I'm sure there are plenty of people out there that are self-sufficient, but it is impossible as a BE/CH to find all of the resources I need by myself. If I were a mediocre BE, then I could, just as you as mediocre CH's (not an insult) could supply yourselves with pets without the help of a BE. If you are going to use the CH skills fully though, the best way to do that is by buying a BE pet. I hope that I am being coherent here and not offending too many of you. I'm just trying to make a point, and that is that to be the nest, you may need to look to someone else for assistance, that's the way this game works.
Please don't be mad at me for any of this, it is just one girl's opinion, and feel free to set me straight about anything I am wrong about. I also apologize for the horrid length of this but what can you do.

Arg.... can't find the edit option, but I meant "to be the best" at the end there, not nest. Sorry
