Anything I can do to reduce the incidence of this happening? Had it happen to me three times yesterday when the pet was following me (and within 30m) and today it happened in the middle of a fight (while the pet was engaged). So far the lossI running is about 50k credits for lost buffs on the pet (which I can't get back, cause the pet wont stay out long enough to complete missions).

#1. Dont go to the most popular hunting spots. The less other players in your server zone the less auto storing problems you will have.
#2. Get a good connection and a fast computer. With cable modem and 1gig of memory I almost never have this problem. (almost)

It seems to happen most when you are in the "ring of death", from 800-2000m from a city border where missions generate. If you're travelling from a city to an area outside of this circle, wait and pull your pet when you're past it.
Of course if you're using pets for missions, you're screwed.

Only reason I go anywhere near the Mining Outpost is so I can find a doc to get buffed with, normally hunt out of my Player City (6k away from the Mining outpost), if I can get there without my pet poofing on me:/

I have had this problem happen very seldom to me once or twice that I can recall. It may be a question of server stability. The more people in a planetary server the more futzed things get. Really matters very little how close you are to the town on dantooine. Its a bugged planet on my server atleast. Nothing like walking into a town to see people floating. Self deleteing missions. Broken trades.
They really need to crack down on that planets gold mine in my oppinion. No matter where you are missions should cap at 10k. That would help things out alot. It would mean people could hunt on any planet to make money not just one or two. They should also improve the secret supers again. Am I the only one who remembers sometimes you would attack a mission nest, and a surprise strong creature would pop out, and make it more difficult. Make solo groupers think twice. Since the creature that might pop up might be a quarter stronger then the rest, but if your grouping to draw missions beyond you anyhow. Pull a level 99 mission, and have the chance of pulling a level 125 creature. Might get groups back to the way they should be.
On the other hand its just easier to use a speeder and call your pet when you get there.

For every user, the situation is different. I never had a pet autostore on me. Instead, I have the 'you are now away from keyboard' popping up on me, even in the middle of a fight.
I think that the bug lies in the code for determining if you are afk. Autostore relies on that code. Since most ppl are not CH, they don't notice it much due to that they don't have a droid or vehicle out as much as a CH has a pet out.

They say its due to server boundries . . . personal theory? The game can't determine where the visible terrain (the actual "planet" that we see) actually rests on the game "platform" (the table the terrain is generated on . . . I don't know the technical terms for this crap, so you'll have to deal with my made up ones). There's already several examples of how this affects the game:
1.) Sit and slide: we all know this one. I think its due to the game being unable to resolve your avatar point against its space in the world, which it can't decide where the world rests on its base.
2.) Dismount warp: whether its a vehicle or mount, you fly off into the distance. The game knows your vehicle is located at X position on the terrain, but tells itself that you are supposed to be at Y position on the game base.
3.) The City Drift bug: Unless you were one of the first Mayors, you may not remember this. The first City Halls placed in the game had a serious problem affecting their towns. The city centerpoint, the point that determines how many buildings are counted toward your city, was drifting toward 0,0, a few meters a day. The towns placement stayed the same - the buildings didn't move, but that centerpoint did. The game had problems registering where the entire landmass, and your buildings, were against the ACTUAL base that measures location.
4.) Pet calling: this is innocuous, but you know how when you call a pet it takes a few steps away from you? 9 times out of 10 its in the direction of 0,0.
The game is locked in on that 0,0 point, and we can think of it as a black hole. The terrainor its base, I can't tell which, around us sort of slides little by little toward 0,0 every day (shown by the city drift bug). Of course we see no difference, because the world obviously does not have a black hole and it doesn't affect the graphics, but that "pull" is definitely there. Warping and sliding is caused because our avatars cannot be accurately resolved in location against this pull. Autostore, I'm willing to bet, is a FAILSAFE to keep our pets from ghosting (remember ghosting, beta folks?) into the shadow world, as we called it; same game, no buildings, no spawn, you're there but you're not. I think that when our pets are unresolved against the terrain, and the game can't judge their location, they store, rather than them just disappearing and us losing them. This problem intensifies in areas of high traffic at the edges of server borders . . . ie town vs. wilderness, or the Ring of Death. The game hasmore avatars to resolve in placement, whether it be mob or player or pet, and when it can't decide where the pet matches against the terrain or the base, poof. I'm going to bet that this also causes pet slowdown, where the animal slows down and takes forever to reach you. The game can't tell where you are, precicely; the terrain is telling it "You're really close to the pet" so the pet walks. The terrain base is telling it "You're really far away" so the pet ends up with that hoppy run animation in place. Why would the attack command or storing fix this (which they generally do)? Because the game can judge mob location better than client location, on attack . . . once the game knows where the pet is SUPPOSED to be for sure, it can reset it. Or on store, then you pull it out and it has a fresh point to start from.
Just my thoughts.

today mine stored right in the middle of coronet, outside of the starport, all three pets one at a time in one second intervals. I was not moving and had been standing there for about 10 minutes watching the new auction channel. I highly doubt that this is a server border issue.
