I've been playing this game for a long time now - rolled with the changes, rocked with the bugs. All part of that special SWG ambiance. Ezzer was TKM/MCH long before the CU, and didn't change his template after the CU - he was TKM/MCH for specific reasons, and those reasons didn't change along with the game. He was designed to hunt on Dath for Bull Rancor babies. Post-CU diseases aren't what they used to be, but the other advantages of TKM are still fun and I'm not gonna mess with something that seems to work fine. I have every pet I wanted except for one. The one. The trophy.

Anyway, tonight I'm on Dath with a couple buddies. One is leveling, and the other is just helping out - Bull Rancor missions and the occasional wild lair. They know the drill, as I've been after a Bull baby for months. We're chatting away, killing rancors, being annoyed by reptilian flyers and Night Sisters, the usual Dathomir boogie, so you can imagine my (and our) astonishment when a little yellow arrow pops up on the screen and it turns out not to be a Rancor baby or even a Rancor Youth baby but an honest-to-the-Emperor Bull Rancor baby.

Howling, I send my friends away before they upset the kid and I slap on my taming clothes. With them on (my Taming Trunks and my Taming Towel) my mods are great - about +134 for Taming, about +100 for Taming Vicious, and, get this, +24 for Taming Bonus. I've never had a problem taming *anything*, and so I thought I was all set to finally get my baby Bull. I hit my Tame hotkey.

"You can't tame that" pops onto my screen. Huh? What the hell? Hit the button again. "You can't tame that".

Now I get nervous. After all, I've never tamed a Bull Rancor before. Maybe I'm missing something. So I examine the baby and under Tameable is see "No". Huh? What the hell? My nervousness blossoms into something like disbelief.

I start checking everything - clothes are all on, I'm still a MCH, I'm not fighting anything, I have no other pets out, my mask scent is ticking away...and still, I can't tame it. I disconnect and reconnect, in case that might help. It doesn't. Now I'm getting frustrated.

I figure there might be a chance that my mods aren't enough, so I send one of the guys to get that Almond Crisp taming food. They come back with a crate of the best stuff they could find with the vendor search. I eat it, get the extra super hyper mega Taming bonus....and I still can't tame it. Still that implacable "No" under the Tameable description. I start taking screenies and then I send a rather desperate ticket in to Customer Service, wondering if it were possible for them to examine the baby and fix it before it despawned. Well, we know how successful plying Customer Service is in this game - I'm sure I'll get a response asking about my videocard some time next week.

Anyway, I stayed with the baby until it despawned. I'll have my memories, and I'll have my screenies. But I won't have a Bull Rancor in my datapad. Anyone have *any* idea what might have happened? Are Bull Rancors now suddenly off-limits? If nothing else, I'd like to know if I should waste any more of my time on Dathomir, looking for the one pet I've always wanted. Help a fella out, CHs. Tell me what went wrong.

It's unfortunately a known issue with taming in general, and not specific to any one pet type. People get in a bugged state and are unable to tame. The cause isn't exactly known, but it has been reported numerous times since the CU and hopefully they are working on a fix.

It always seems to hit at the worst possible times.

the baby may have been a tease, I have run into same problem before, I would have to assume that the max lvl of the emperor bull was to high, probably in the 80's or so

Both actually. The level of the mission has absolutely no effect on the CL that the baby will grow to. If a creature is CL3 in the wild and you pull a level 32,000 mission forthat type of creatureand try to tame a baby from the lairnot only will you be able to tame it (provided you dont get bugged) but, the baby will only grow to CL3.

Condolences

That's the absolute worst way to experience that bug.

I remember the days when people could shoot babies while you were taming them. <sigh> those were not happy times.

Your honor, may I introduce Exhibit A on why it is a very very bad thing that the team is spending so much time figuring out new ways to imitate WoW instead of just fixing their own darned code.

If its over CL70 then it dosent spawn babies period. Without exception.

And to the origional poster.............what a horrible time for that bug to hit.

Thanks for the responses - I wasn't aware that there was an intermittent non-taming bug; I can only be ruefully amused that I learned about it with a baby Bull. Needless to say, I'll be back on Dath fairly soon to start looking again. Not like I lost something, after all - I never tamed it to begin with.

In regards to the nonstacking clothing mods, I'm aware that after +25 it essentially peters out on an S-curve. But I figure I'd rather have too much than not enough, and this way I'm certain I've maxed. Besides, a cool tailor hooked me up with my Taming Towel for free when I ordered my Taming Trunks (thanks, Freeto!). And now, just to really indulge that mathematical melodrama, I have a rather large supply of taming food.

Ultimately, things could be worse. CHing isn't for everyone, and its flaws are half the charm. If I wanted to play a more boring, mundane SWG I'd just be a Jedi like everyone else.

Yes, I would also much rather see fixes to old bugs rather than new bugs ... ooooops ... I mean new features

Taming is all whacked out. I was wearing my best stuff and it took me over 15 attempts before I could finally tame a Gaping Spider Queen baby I found. But after being attacked 3 times and not giving up, it finally by the grace of god let me tame it. I was happy to get it, until I noticed it is weaker then my Hunter I have. So much for that...
