Tiggs, edit "can't" and replaced it with "wont"

Your account is just an entry into a database. That entry would have arow for "usernames". Your name would be an entry in that row. There will also be an "ID" row that will most likely be the primary of the database.

Now, any self respecting database engineer/coder would then link any relation to that database with the ID entry and not the "username" or "email" or whatever entries. If this is not the case, then it is considered poor coding by industry standards and being that SOE is one the industry's forefront companies thats unlikely.

Then, ofcourse, SWG links two seperate "usernames". One for your SWG forum and one for your SOE account. So not only is it unlikely that anything links to your SOE station name its even more incredibly unlikely that anything links to your SWG forum name. As it stands, Lithium boards themselves allow username changes as its a feature admins can turn on or off, most just leave it off.

Therefore, changing a simple cell of a database is not something that "can't" be done but simply "won't" be done

*wanted to change his name too and got the same responce*

EQ does it all the time when it has "Sir" or religious implications. Dunno why you cannot do it in SWG?

I have seen a few forum names changed over the years...they are changed because of offensive names.

Wonbad,
If you wanted your forum name changed here is how you should have worded the request...

Dear SOE,
I am sorry but when I picked my forum name I was in a bad mood and my forum name 'Wonbad' actually stands for Bothan hater and I am sorry for picking that name. Can I please have my name changed to something else?
(replace Bothan with human race minority).

Disclaimer - If this was to result in you being banned...it is your fault. This is just sarcasm!

I second that. They can change names if they feel they need to. Either Tiggs doesn't know it can be done or is she really means "won't" rather than "can't".

Yes. Use a name for a year, win a homeshow, have soeone report it. It will be changed while you play without you noticing it.

As has been amply demonstrated by the stunning CS team.

Question to the database engineer that said it was impossible, and then changed his story to its possible and just a bad idea.

Are you one of the database engineers that claimed the year 2000 bug would end the world? Or are you one of the ones that put the bug in in the first place and never did anything about it?

I too have coded a database or two, and no, its not impossible, never could be construded as impossible, and also couldn't be used as a grifing method since if done correctly it would change all your piror post names aswell (being retroactive like forum signitures) and it would take everyone all of two minutes to figure out who you are. Again, other places do it, its not that difficult. I'd say its not Can't but Wont and not because of difficulties but because of laziness on the hands of the web team... or did we not notice that the CU is still on tc-5 according to the in testing page? That CU is still under development on that respective page. Loot system is still a foot note on inconcept even though we had the loot revamp a long while ago. (If you want to use the Fanfest loot revamp argument then fine, they could atleast change the damn pictures). Or, the best part, the EULA that has been changed since it was posted that under the Policies page still shows the original EULA and not the one hat we agree to when playing.

(BTW I don't want to spill the beans but I also seem to remember Tiggs saying somthing last week about forums name changes, let me look at the dev tracker and Ill get back to you)

This can be taken with a grain of salt as "username" in a virtual world means just about anything, but since I've logged in countless times, and I have seen no option to change ANY name (except make a new toon in game which obviusly doesn't count) But, I take username to mean posting ID.

"Starting immediately, all new Station accounts will require that passwords must be a minimum length of 8 characters, and be alpha-numeric. This means that at least one of the characters in your password must contain a number.

Furthermore, you can now use symbols, such as @,# and $ as part of your Station account password thus making your account even more secure. This new password security requirement is only for the creation of new Station accounts; however, it will be required when a current Station member changes his or her current password, username, secret question or email address." -Tiggs
