Thread: New Portal Experiment... please read and give feedback.
From a functional perspective, I liked being able to scroll down and quickly see the most recent thread from all of the the various top level threads. And once in a subsection I was interested in say professions, seeing the most recent thread from all of the top level professions. Organizing the categories by which has the most posts doesn't make any sense. Even the option to show the most recent threads, it puts them seperatley from the listing.
If this new portal is made permanent, could we get the option to have the old view as a perference choice?
I have also noticed much slow performance on the forums since the change.
Thanks.

Ok, my thoughts on this. Ew. I could work with it, easily enough (build my bookmarks folder for the forums I read and ignore the front page all together). But the main reason I used the old front page, aside from occasionally navigation, is that I could take in the threads from each of the main groups at once. Just scroll down the page, and there was a chance a thread subject would catch my eye in a forum I wouldn't normally frequent. Yes, I've gone to profiles and tried both the verbose and compact settings, neither of them shows me the information which was the reason I used the top level forums page.
I have the same problem. A crappy work around that semi-works is to check the show latest messages box. However the text and font color make it hard for anything to catch your eye let alone skimand it's all cramped under. Better then nothing.
I realy am curious though, why did any of you use the main page for navigation before when there is a navigation toolbar on every page linking to anywhere in 1 click. No matter what they change to the front page it couldn't possibly be faster then using that.

2) Need an option to turn on/off the Most Popular Boards. I don't really care for it. I know what boards I want to go to and can find my way there. Just taking up space.
I agree here, it just bugs me and I don't find any use for it
3) Same goes for the Newest/Currently Online Users. No one really cares about this. We have friends lists to show us if the people we care about are one line. I could really care less if some random person is on, or who the new guys are.
I agree, stuff it on the bottom or give it it's own page all together..on the right it is too distracting

so. will there be new forum rankings since the old ones were based on star ratings?
Very few ranks were actuallyfrom star rating, most were from forum age and post count.
I beleive the 'star' ranking are just going to be removed from the line up,
and those of uswith'star' ranks, will receive the next highest 'normal'rank when acheived, but will hold our current title until then.
I would really love to be able to put like say my bookmarks and subscriptions at the top and to re-arrange the order in which it lists the forums. As it rather sucks to scroll all the way down just to see if there are new posts in those areas that I really want to read.
