Why not make it like EQ1/2 or WoW....no one who play those complains about the combat systems in those games....Why try to reinvent the wheel when you have a templete already nice and ready laid out for you?
If I was on the SWG team, i'd probably go crazy because there's NO PLEASING YOU PEOPLE!!
"OMG!! I can't go out, master every profession in a week, become a FotM junkie and completely unbalance the game for everyone else by flooding the market with credits, over priced loot, and stacking my defences so high that no one can touch me while I put my mind poision on them and blast them away with my rifle! I can't be uber any more!! WAHHHHHH"
Oh and heaven forbid you guys have to actually GROUP in a massive multiplayer game...especially to LEVEL!
The current combat system is crap. Anyone who played it from the begining knows it. Yes, the partical effects are over the top...the icons are a bit...odd...though i like them a hell of a lot more than the old ones.

Anyone who played in the beginning knows that you had to group to level and choose armor wisely in the pre-buff days. Hell, GROUPS would get killed walking from Anchorhead to Bestine in attempts to raid the imperial stronghold. Those were the good 'ol days. The combat system was not the problem then.
That was alsoof course before uber armor, weapons, and buffs...

ROFL
If SWG ever gets a /pizza command, I will be sure to give LucasArts an earful complaining about how SOE is handling the game.

That was also of course before uber armor, weapons, and buffs...The point he is trying to make is, they did NOT have to throw out the baby with the bathwater by replacing the whole combat system to fix the balance. There was once balance in the old system, and there could have been balanced again. This whole CU BS is completely unnecessary.
DING DING DING!!! We have a winner!
I thought my point was obvious, but I guess not. Thank you for explaining it Silversaber.

John I dont know what you've been told... *so goona be suspended for this*
The players didn't want ep3 content!
We dont give a crap about your new content for EQ2, if we did we'd read their forums!
The majority of the population dont like the new system on test!
Ha! customer support responce time best in the bussiness! you smoking some good ****, pass it around!
And again, we dont care for EQ2, we want to play SWG, not another fantasy rpg clone look alike!
The majority of the population would of been just happy with you fixing the bugs in the game, improved the system and balanced it out, not start again!
The whole new system looks like it was a rush job, done less than 2months, copied over from EQ to make things easier for your dev team to code and at the same time remove all uniqueness from swg entirely!
When are you devs goona realise that doing too many changes at one time, causes more problems than it fixes, i mean for gods sake its programming 101, make small changes, when there all working, move on to the next. Gamers in general dont like big changes, when are you goona get it through your head!
If you had released this CU in small steps, people could of slowly got use to the change, but yet agian you've proved your dev team has no common sense and done a rush job, full of bugs and tried to do more than you could handle.
Yes i have played CU, i've tried and test it, read thousands of other tests opionions of the Test center server experience, its simply not goona work they way you want, and it removes all uniqueness swg had from it, adding magic like healing abilities to normal proffesions, screwed up lvling system, and dumbed down almost every single crafting proffession swg has.
*waits for the forum ban*
We could go on for hours on this subject, would have been a good substantive forum at the last fan fest, "Fix What We Have vs. Complete Redesign," and better than the vapid SOE-sheep starry-eyed kids that were ready to mob anyone remotely critical of the devs who themselvessat there all cocky, responding toissues with dismissive quips, quashing debate or dialogue (or even a response,)and rediculously propped up on their dias as they domineered and completely controlled the dialogue in the so-called "forum." That fan fest was completely representative of the inability of this SOE SWG team to communicate, collaberate, communicate, and evaluate feedback. The worst case of ivory tower I've seen in my 20-year leadership career.
The "Combat Revamp" became the "Combat Upgrade," which is really so offensively mistitled and is in fact nothing short of a "Game Revamp." Everytime I see "CU" I want to wretch on "someone," ... Schmedley will do.
So, lets start the open dialogue by calling this abomination what it really is, the "GR."
I have not been able to spend too much time in the GR, though I'm working my way up Brawler, and unfornutately every 5 to 10 minutes the game crashes. It never crashes for me in live, and that brings up another issue with taking a GR approach, in that look how hard it is to get a game right and so instead of modifying our existing game incrementally, they go and start from scratch with the GR, and we can look forward to having bugs and balance issues all over again for the next 3 years. What idiots.
How will the limited content we had be imbalanced again?, such as the vette, the DWB, the geno cave, Black Suns, Nyax, krayts, kimo's, etc.??? Do I now have to have a group to kill Black Suns, who are just other humanoids versus me being a master profession? How many Black Suns? If there are 3 in a group, am I done? How about just one? That's just balance issues as a subset of enjoyment issues.
How long will we have to wait to make the GR new game enjoyable, balanced? Why do we have to have any down time at all??? instead of incremental improvements to the game we already are committed to (and from SOE's historic performance, the fact that we were still here proly means we should "be committed" - white jackets).
And with all this new stuff, given that we've already put in our pain, how on earth will we know what profession we really want to be without having another 6 months of feedback, testing, and experience? So we have to grind again?????????? Idiots. And then when we realize we want something else, lacking background and feedback, we have to grind again after that???????
This is so wrong, so unnecessary, so incompetent, so mismanaged. I don't know how anyone on the SOE SWG team can take pride in their work, given the jacking around they continue to deliver. There has to be other work out there. It didn't take our new Community Relations Rep long to find another job, and maybe if these peeps quit (like all the correspondents have,) we'll get another team around here, or better yet, turned over to another team/company entirely.
