it totally sux. i never used my commando skills except my LP before the patch. now as i use my flamethrower in pvp i find i cant win a fight if the person knows to stay far away. cant it be turned to like 32m or something. its a flamethrower, not a vibroknuckler!

You want some cheese with that whine?

Seriously, we can't have our cake and eat it too. They've upped the damage on our weapons CONSIDERABLY, as well as having our D.O.T's for flame. Just switch to Heavy Acid Rifle or Launcher Pistol. They'll still work.

it's because our specials are so devistating that they must be used from 16m or closer. If I can set it up right, I can do an absurd amount of damage. This is against dumb targets in PvE, but still. If specials like flameCone were available from further out, it'd be too easy to use and abuse.

Flamethrowers aren't known for their accuracy at 32m (aka 98 feet 5 inches.)

I think 16m (aka 52 feet 6 inches) is reasonable. The farther out you use a flamethrower the less dense the flames/heat will be. Oh and hope it's not a windy day.

I still think the max range should be 48m (aka ~157 feet) instead of 64m (aka 210 feet.) Flamethrowers aren't ment to be used for extended ranges. They are short-range anti-personnel weapons.

think of it like this I know the skills are not tru to RL but how close did a Flame thrower have to be used IRL in WWII. Certainly not far away they had to be very close. As for the Acid rifle that I am not to sure of since i dont have one my self yet

hmm.. how about because we do 700-1500 dmg in pvp with a burn?? you hit em with 1, i repeat 1 flamesingle special and there gonna die

What more do you want? We are not powerful. But we commando's have to pay for that power...we NEED vulnerabilities. 16m is a great thing to keep balance in pvp. You can do great dmg but you better stay within range. And forgive me if I'm wrong but the flamethrowers regular attack does some decent damage...

This comparison would be legit if the average stride in SWG was the same as in RL. Out here in the real world, the average person has a stride of about 2 feet. Seriously, go measure it - remember to start with your toe at zero and then measure at your heel, as that is the actual distance covered.

In SWG, one stride = one meter. So for 32 meters we're actually looking at a RL equivilant of 64 feet, or about 20 yards. In WWII both the American Flamethrower *AND* the British Flamethrower (both different designs) could both be used *accurately* at a range of 50 meters. Specifically, the American M2-2 Flamethrower that was used in the Pacific was rated with an effective range of 60 yards. Larger, vehicle mounted flamethrowers (example: M10-8, deployed 1963) has an accurate effective range of 200 meters, or 650 feet.

Clearly the flamethrowers in the game are WAY under-ranged when compared to even the WWII designs. Heck, even in WWI flamethrowers had an accurate range of 40 meters (German flammenwerfer is the cited example)

So take your pick: Our range should be farther because distance in-game isn't equivilant to real life, or the range should be farther because RL flame throwers have a MUCH greater range.

i like the distance limit on my flamethrower. it is a beast and i should not be able to do that damage from that far. i love being the one running to the front line with this metal dragon on my back. it is a blast to do it.

rebels raided theed the other night there was a ring of fighting and i had so much fun rushing past the riflemen amd other marksman to run into a group of rebels and unleash hell. i was able to kill a couple before i succumbed to massive bleeding and all sorts of poison. i can play pvp now i have my limits and i get to be one of the shock troops. the rebels were really cool and we gave each other a goodtimes afterwards. the melee range is great who want to snipe with a flamethrower. i want the imperials to part as i come through the lines to bring hell to the enemy face to face. if you dont want to get your hands dirty get a rifle. i can finally play and i love it.

Bringing realism into it doesn't help much, after all, we're talking SWG Flamethrowers and Heavy Acid Rifles here, there aren't any RL Heavy Acid Rifles, are there? They could make the SWG Flamethrower shoot out bunnies that nibble you to death for all that matters...realism isn't really expected in a game about laser guns, space travel, and the Force, you know. Balance is the key, and for balance reasons, it would be risk-free 1-shot kills from 64 m in PvE AND PvP if the special attacks could be used from that range, think about it, the FT doesn't have any penalties for 64 m range, it's +0, with a few seconds for /aim and FT 4, you're not going to miss with a +0 mod much, if at all.

The whole reason we're doing great damage and not going to get nerfed is because we have to take tremendous risks actually living to 16 ms and then take tremendous risk surviving the next 15 seconds without heals or attacks. It negates the first part and the second part completely if we can run out of attack range during the 15 seconds after a special.

Guys every Weapon's Max range is 64m for a reason.

Think about it, surely a rifle can shot further then a pistol?

Yes they can, butas thisis a GAME (you'll be surprised how many people forget that) if you could shoot out of someone else's max range then what's to keep you from running out of their range and shooting them to death.

Obviously Melee is different, but what do you expect when you take up MELEE!
