Thread: Composite or Storm Trooper Armor?
For pve armor doesn't really matter too much maybe just a composite helm and chest. In faction pve you do encounter dx2s.
A commando in pvp is better off wearing composite since faction armor is vul to heat/acid.
Scatter pistol/dx2 = ap1 acid
fwg5 = ap0 heat
flamethrower = ap0 heat
Consider that most people in pvp are either bh, cm/pistoleer, doc/pistoleer, ch/pistoleer/flamer and therefore using mainly heat/acid/kinetic damage against you.
So idealy you want high kinetic/heat/acid/energy resistances.
Also with composite you can get higher resists than the standard 30% on the faction stuff but the downside to composite is the lower elec resist and them pesky llc toting bhs
As for encumberances as medic I take it you need a lower encumbrance helm this should be your only concern. The ham cost on our specials and the long delay pretty much make high end composite ideal for commando but the medic in you will suffer in it. Unless you want to risk not wearing a helm.
Composite is deffenitly the way to go in my opinion. As someone mentioned, our flamethrower specials do almost nothing to us even with almost nothing for sub stats. My main problem is when I use my stim B's (VERY good stim b's, best on sunrunner in my opinion) my mind doesn't regen as well untill I take off my helm. Right now I'm in full suit of Ubese armor with a Tantel helm, none of it is sliced so I have full encumbrance. The only major problem is, as I said, my mind pool not regening fast (700 mind 475 focus and willpower, as apposed to 900 health and action and 500 str, qui, 475dex, con)
I do plan to get a full suit of composite as I do like the fact that the helm looks like a helm a flamethrower trooper WOULD wear (with the wires and stuff) combined with my Tech Pack I'll be atrue flamethrower infantry-man! hehe.
Furthermore, if you get your composite made from Kryat scales, the electrical protection resist comes out of the "special" resists section and joins the rest of the higher resists. The best PvP armor in the game is a set of expertly made Kryat composite. It's neither cheap nor easy to get, but it is the best.
IMHO, ST armor is not good for PvP because of the vulnerabilities it has. Every time I see someone in ST armor I rejoice because I know they're just one FS2 away from death.
Thanks guys! Guess I will SLOOOOWWLLY get the money up to get a decent set of Composite. Any other mixes that might be worth it in the meantime? I try to get Tantel since you can get it made with no vulns but only 3 parts available.
What would the buget combos be?
HAS ANYONE TRIED THIS??!?!?!:
Ok i always wondered this. For PVP has anyone ever tried grouping with ... lets say... 2 other IMPs, have all 3 players wear full sets of ST armor. And have all 3 players each pull out 3 STs with the white armor? I would imagine it would be very hard for an enemy to target one of the "real" players as opposed to the guys that just come from your datapad.
Or is there an easy way to target the real ppl?
Thanks for the feedback

With FS2, doesn't matter what armor the guy is wearing or even if he's wearing any at all; it's a one shot kill regardless.
Armor in PvP is kinda pointless with all the armor piercing weapons and I hear that specials ignore resists. Armor will only protect you from the lesser advanced players.
Does anyone know of a good Armorsmith (for composite) on the Gorath server?
Vet Vanderjack
Flamethrower has no armorpiercing value and from my experience, armor value does factor in regardless of attack type as long as the armor has protection against that attack.
Someone with a really good set of composite is going to be seeing about 50% resist. For a non-armor piercing weapon that is going to mean that the target feels only 25% of the initial damage applied. Or in PvP that means an actual damage of 6.25%. The real killer for the flame thrower is the dot applied with FS2, damage applied is not affected by armor or resists.
