Not all of you, just the ones that don't like dabblers.

I am almost a master commando, and have had to give up so many other side professions to do so. Side professions that I enjoyed.

I am now looking at dumping some commando skills to regain some lost levels in other professions.

I don't think that any profession was ment as a stand alone profession, and the fact is to make master commando, you have to sacrifice other professions.

I for one am going to go with 0/4/4/0 in commando and be happy with that. There is not a lot of bennifit of the Cone2s to me and I don't care for the acid rifle or granades.

I do however like my medic skills and my pets. I am also going to look at rifleman for the T21 to go along with my pistoleer skills.

I actually aspire to be a master of nothing.

That T21 with mindshot3 (which I used to have before I started down the long road to master cammando) does sound nasty. Cone2 sounds nastier though. Let me make sure its worth the journey....Master cammando's have decreased time between specials right? Any other tidbits that masters get that isn't obvious by looking at the trees?

Proton grenades are worth it alone in my opinion.

We, that being master commandos, are no better at the flamer than any Joe Schmo with flamer IV. I am as fast with my specials as I was at Flamer IV. I'm as fast/accurate at master with my HAR as I was as a Novice Commando. Cone2 is pretty good, very situational, but good. Technically speaking the Flamer is an assault weapon, meant to be used by attackers to root out the defenders. But I've found it very useful in the defensive stances more so, although I must admit I'm a defense/slow pounding advance type of person. I tend to park myself in either the interior of a faction base(to defend the terminals from rush attacks) or outside near the entrance (to act as a first line of defense and sacrificial point man to warn any defenders of a coming push). Where as IRL an MG nest would serve that purpose fantasically(long range spraying fire to keep the advance down) we lack those capabilites its better to work in restricted areas to get that cone2 flaming mass quantities of flesh. Though, as I said, I'm not a Blitzkrieg minded person-more of a Monty-so there are others that probably could use it in an offensive tactic better than I could.

Protons are fun. Light AP, 1500-3000 Heat, and they are like little nukes going off. I don't use them much, at 6K a stack who could, but I do have a crate of 25 for those special occasions.

So the time between specials for masters is not decreased? Now I'm confused...

The class should be more effective at master then at the totalpower of flame tree 4, when the devs change that I hope you see the light.

No class should stand alone I agree. Thats why youGROUP with other classes(hence the MMO interaction)instead of trying to cookie cut yourself a stand alone template.

Yeah, there's no attack speed increase at master. The only skill mods you get are +10 to RL accuracy and +10 to grenade accuracy.

I think something like the below would be more appropriate:

Skill Mod: +10 General heavy weapons (charged) accuracy
Skill Mod: +10 General heavy weapons (charded) speed
Skill Mod: +20 Flamethrower accuracy
Skill Mod: +10 Flamethrower speed
Skill Mod: +20 HAR accuracy
Skill Mod: +10 HAR speed
Skill Mod: +20 Thrown weapon accuracy
Skill Mod: +10 Thrown weapon speed

Then there'd be a real reason to go master (esp if they fix the HAR).

I don't consider someone at 0440 to be a "dabbler". I think most of the animosity of we Master Commandos is reserved for the 0040 variety--and largely that's because those Grenadeer-only commandos are perceived as being disproportionately grievers giving commandos a bad name. That could just be me though. Once you've maxed out HALF of the profession though, that seems like more than dabbling.

Actually, because of all the skill points it takes to get to Master Commando, I "dabble" in a few other advanced professions (Pistoleer and soon enough TKA), so I suppose I can't really throw stones at anyone.

Flame Cone 2 is kind of awesome for clearing out swathes of opponents. It usually only hurts the principle target initially, but it attached the 2nd-level DoT to everyone in the cone...so typically they have ten seconds to live.

Proton Grenades are good...but the HAM costs are obscene (and why are there HAM costs for a weapon with no special moves? If they ever were to add special moves to the grenade line, I'd be too terrified of the HAM costs to use them) . . . and they are a pain to make requiring multiple factory runs. That's why no one on Chilastra seems to sell them (except in rare cases). If you go to all that trouble to make them, then you might as well use them to make RLs, rather than sell them individually.

Finally, Master Commandos have no speed bonuses with the FT. We fire specials at the same rate that someone with FT4 would withthe sameFlamer.

IMO, the current plague of Masters who complain about Flamethrower dabblers can be summed up as follows:

  1. Some Masters are completely ignorant of game design - If you want everyone to follow the same cookie cutter templates, then play EQ. The attitude that you're either a Master or a second class citizen is a major problem on the BH boards too. You guys aren't special... we all have 250 skill points.

  2. Other Masters are too narrowminded to find uses for the other Commando skills - Higher level grenades and several of the heavy weapons are awesome in the right situations. Stop running mindless missions on Endor. Get out and find uses for them... like PvP, assaulting faction bases, and hunting the big mobs, like Dark Jedi Masters and Krayts.

  3. And, finally, some Masters are not intelligent enough to recognize that SOE created this situation. If you Masters want enhancements to make your precious title more worthwhile, then bitch at SOE... not at the players who are just having fun. We're tired of seeing your whining everywhere we look.

Have a nice day

I hope that the SOE don't change anything of commando, beaucause all profession will be the same, and i don't think that a pistol do more that a flamethorwer, so i hpe that the soe don't change nothing, i speak for all italian and some american commando.

If commando is commando, pistoleer is pistoleer, commadno do high damage near the target, pistoleer at medium distance and carabineer and rifleman a very high distance do greater damage,

We think that if soe change the commando, nothing will be similiar at the real Star Wars.

I don't think anyone can disagree with the fact that a commando should have more of an incentive to be a master commando than what is currently offered. Flame cone 2 is about it right now. Personally, I could care less if youre a 0040 commando. Whatever, have fun..I dont' give a ****. I myself decided to become a master commando. I'm hopeing that they fix some things that REALLY need fixing...the HAR comes to mind...and the launcher pistol.

I am also pretty close to Master Commando (just 2 rungs on the Acid Tree Left)...And I don't mind the dabblers...where I see the problem is with folks that get the Flame Tree (0|0|4|0) and call themselves commandos...It's like someone taking one training class to be a Navy Seal and calling themselves a Navy Seal...If you skills are more towards another profession (like CH) than you should go by that profession...or just call yourself a Professional Dabbler...there is no knock in that...Dabbling is a smart move, especially if you play PvP...Those of us who play mainly PvE go for Master because partly the gratification of making it all the way there, and the potential of what is promised down the road...

It just annoys me when some one with mainly CH skills get's a few flamethower skills and calls themselves a Commando....but then again, that's my opinion...and just like them we are all entitled to one...so even though it annoys me, they have a right to do so...

In all this discussion about how there's hardly any incentive to become master and the devs need to fix alot of stuff, let me remind all of you about the dark days of the commando profession. Yes Im sure most of you masters have been commando long enough to remember. Back when just about anyone could kill us pvp, just about all of the skill trees were broken, and the only commando weap not horribly weak was the LP, which didn't even give heavy xp for a while there. What Im getting at is that commandos are in a pretty good position right now, and whether you're master or not, be thankful that we have some of the most devastating weapons in swg. I don't care if you're a dabbler, but getting the Master Commando title is a matter of prestige and honor.
