Thread: proton rifle animation what a laugh

Before publish 24, the proton rifle animation was a crisp blue bolt. Now the gun appears to fire a ball with little orbiting rings around it. The bolts look like diagrams of the atom from classrooms in the 1950s.
This is a great example of an idea that should have been laughed off the table, but somehow got implemented into the game.
"Hey, the proton rifle! 'proton' has something to do with atoms, right? Let's have the gun shoot out big atoms!"
What a joke.

Its.. erm.. Unique.
But I don't mind it.
A lot of weapons got visual upgrades- proton carbine, Intimidator pistol (i think), many others.

Hey, maybe I can shoot a couple atoms, then switch weapons and try to split them near the target? Now there would be a commmando idea worth trying.

hmmm that is a good idea... maybe this is the"high-damage" overkill shot special in disguise!
im not fussed on the new animation tbh, prefer the lovely blue bolts, but having said that, its not so bad, and if you really just want to look coolthen use your flamer

/overkillshot when it nears group of enemies
/one-third of tatooine disappears from the map
/tatooine-chunk hits theed starport

I came on yesterday and went to try the new specials pulled out my Proton Rifle fired it once and said "WTH?!" but then I kept firing and now I like it alot

To be honest, I like the new animations. The crisp blue laser bolt was ok, but it just didn't convey the power that the weapon should.
When I first saw the animation (actually saw it on another rifle first), I thought it resembled more like the scatter pistol's shotgun effect or our old LP effect...one mega shot of blistering energy

Our weapons don't convey their power, period. 
If it was up to me, the weapons animation would determine how powerful it is. I'm sorry but a tiny-ass pistol shouldn't be doing more damage than a cannon that douses targets in hot burning acid.

Ahh, but thats a problem not with our weapons...but with our specials.
Heavy Weapons are powerful, as they're in that upper damage range along with rifles. Albeit they should be a bit more powerful given the extreme SAC & the speed restrictions (our built in states aren't enough to make up for this). They're damaging, in theory...
...but without working/damaging specials, they are not in reality.

The lava cannon looks to me like a hose shooting blood.

I think the Proton Rifle looks awesome now. It looks more like a Starfighter weapon (if your a pilot, you've probably noticed the similarity as well), which makes it look badass IMO.
