Thread: Correspondent Update for September

Hey guys, just doing a bit extra work on my end today...got some things planned, and some news:

New Stuff:





  • I'm about half done with the Version 3.0 guide. After a bit of not working on it (was waiting on our AoE fixes...but, they're still not here so what the heck?), and after scrapping the last written out version for something that flowed a bit better, and was more informative...it'll be out sooner than a "Dev Soon"






  • Honestly, I'm a bit fed up with merely asking (and not recieving) questions about our issues or the beastly AoE problem that we've been in for the past 8 publishes. Orget some hope that it's being worked on, then not hearing anything since.So, I got a crazy idea to do a weekly correspondent thread for our wonderful developers with "Commando Forum Verbatim" - direct quotes, threads, etc from you guys. Mature, but angry quotes for that matter. I do use quite a bit from you guys to back-up Corr threads/posts/points, or try and point the Devs to threads of interests (ie RankorCity's stickied top 5). However...given the amount of responses I've gotten, I'm going to see what happens if I truly let loose the floodgates and quite almost have it whereyou guys are directly talking to them (meaning: Oodles upon oodles of your feedback, so even if a dev is just surfing the forums he WILL see it). We'll see how that turns out, for now I've picked through quite a few threads in here and have accumulated quite a bit quotes and truly dang good posts.






  • Now, as all of you know...I've been Correspondent for quite a while (Since the Alpha CU Forum era). Corro's have term limits, and I believe Im a month or two away from that limit. These aren't entirely set in stone anymore, and of course old correspondents can either re-apply or return after a small hiatus. I feel real life won't nag me to the point where I can't perform my duties as Correspondent (maybe not until the end of this year however), but Im curious to know if you guys would want me to stay as Correspondent for at least a while longer.









Old Stuff:





  • For those who haven't seen it (especially since the thread is gone), Jo-don was kind enough to give us a very small, but useful update with AoE...it's being fixed. Now, of course we don't know the ETA (especially since according to Blixtev it "Should be working internally" back when he made an attempt)...but given the sheer lack of information, its better than nothing at this point. I have no further information regarding this, and I have explicitly queried about AoE and other questions a while back which was an ongoing thread which failed to garner developer feedback despite two attempts.






  • Along with the "no update on AoE", there is also nothing else to report on our other issues which most have been listed quite a few times since the CU, all have been reported internally...but other than that, nothing else I know.






  • And for those who keep up with my posts, I don't use color or lines that often because I primarily use Mozilla...well, first time in a very long time that Im using Iexplorer - mainly for the Commando Forum Verbatim. *Cough* That will explain why I have rainbow-colored headlines

And Starnick, I don't think you even need to ask if we still want you as a Correspondent. I'm pretty sure that the ruthless band of grizzled Commandos that stand here at attention are more than willing to follow you into battle anyday. No community could ask for a better person as the mouthpiece for us.

They can never nerf us completely! well I think that's now or was, since the new Proton Rifle does work.

I swear on this forum (I have ya know sworn a couple of times) that I will de-rail every Dev post in an Off-Topic, but very nice official manner. Well I will get their attention . By the way...I had a brainstorm the other day in my "I'm Back" rant thread, that I like more the more I think about it...



To paraphrase the idea: The current situation with our low % state effects and constant need to switch weapons to achieve different state effectsSUCKS! No other class has to go through such hassle (as their state effects stick 90+% of the time and their state specials now work with every weapon).


I think allcommando weapons should be split into 2 classes:


(a) General Heavy Weapons - Have ONE group of effects for ALL heavy weapons that I will call "Blast Radius" for the purposes of this thread. Every mob that is hit (i.e. damaged)by a commando heavy weapon is within the "Blast Radius" and has a 25% chance of being blinded, stunned, dizzyed, knocked down, fired, armor breaked, etc. (a separate 25% dice roll for each one). None of the effects may stick, some may stick, all might even stick (highly unlikely, but possible). No matter what weapon a commando uses, there is a chance that multiple, or no, effects will be applied.


This would allow commando to use ONE weapon per encounter (likely chosen by damage type and/or DPS) but have the opportunity to apply several state effects through multiple shots on the mob. After 4-5 shots, chances are the mob will be effected by multiple states. This is the same effect as the current system WITHOUT all the annoying weapon switching.


(b) Grenades - Should be modified to havea 90% - 95% chance of causing ONE (and only one) state effect. This would be thecommando's option when they want to be sure a certain effect gets applied. Gives grenades an actual purpose, without pure redundancy with other weapons. (NOTE: the delay on these suckers also need to be cut in half).
