Thread: LOL No docs yet?
Q: Is the CB or revamp whatever its beeing called these days, being coded right now as we speak and the documents are a separate issue more around the basis of PR and approval, or will the revamp coding not actually start until after the release of the docs? if you could answer that one for me I would be ecstatic.
A: It is not being coded as we speak. It went through a preliminary design, 3 design iterations and involvement/approval with many different entities (the dev team, LucasArts, etc). The one thing that is going on right now is that we are setting up the hardware for the sandbox. Our intent is to run this as a "mini-beta", though we don't know how many people the hardware will support yet. We've also set up the beta forums and community tools for bringing people into the beta, flagging them for forums, setting up another launchpad, etc. We've been covering all the prep work.

So much for having devs tasked to work on it, huh? Always a great idea to set up the hardware before you even begin coding the software! At least they are doing that "one thing." And notice how deftly TH tap danced around saying ANYTHING about the docs?
It's actually pretty funny to read some of this stuff!

I can 100% Guarentee the docs are coming...just can't guarentee when...Either we'll see them soon or my guess is we'll see them right after JTL Launches (near the end of October)...
Even though people feel like the Devs are anti-SWG or not competent, take a step back and look at all they've accomplished so far...This game is amazing, despite all it's issues...Go rewatch the movies and see how closely they got everything...I wanted Episode IV over the weekend and I can't believe how well they matched the ingame version of Mos Eisley to how it appeared in the movie (same buildings, landmarks, etc)...
I say this because the Devs aren't stupid...and I know they want to improve the game play for all of us...The have drafted the entire revamp and already put a time of time and effort into it (yes, it's pretty much on paper, but IT'S HUGE!!!)...I HIGHLY doubt they'd just create all that, put all that work in that I've personally seen, to just say "Ha Ha, we fooled you..."
Look...the doc delay pisses me off as much as anyone...And I have repeatedly said I don't agree with the delay, but at no time have I had any reason to believe that they aren't coming or that anything is wrong with the revamp plans...My guess is that they just don't want to market the revamp at the same time they market JTL...
As for the folks that have deemed from TH's recent post that the Combat Revamp is not being worked on...that is false...I saw it being worked on with my own 2 eyes...same as every other Correspondent at the Summit...it's just not hit any Server (live or test)...Some of the things coming with the revamp are even already on the Live Servers (just not turned on)...Devs are still polishing and Programmers are still coming up with Solutions...
Pessimism has become the new Darkside...once you give in, you'll sink deeper and deeper into it...
Making a post every couple of days regarding "Where are the docs" or some other pessimistic attitude basically saying "See, I told you they would do anything" isn't helping any of us and it's doing nothing to help our cause...instead it would be helpful to put such energies into other posts that analyze our profession and help plan to make it better...
When you get a flat tire, do you sit by you car and whine "When will this tire get fixed...it's been flat for so long" or do you come up with ways to fix it...if you can't do it yourself, you can come up with options and whom to call...Well, we have 3 flat tires and the 4th is a little low...We are hurting, but we aren't dead...And I have repeatedly said that Good Times Are Coming...if you can't trust the devs, TRUST ME!!! I use to be the biggest ranter in this forum (TH even assured me of that)...I haven't changed, just the volume of what I know and have privy to has...If the revamp was crap, I'D TELL YOU...

Funny story; I had a friend, yes Ido have friends, that had a flat tire. His wife said hey we paid a lot of money for the raodside help stuff -- let's use it. Well they made the call and was told someone will be there "soon". Well they were expecting someone ther soon, like 1/2 hour. Well a half hour later they called again and was told the same thing. It took over 3 hours for the guy to come out and fix their tire. A number of times my friend just wanted to change the tire on his own, but the wife wouldn't let him. Kept saying we are paying for the services I expect to use it. Well needless to say my friend is NOT renewing this service. He may find another better service or not bother at all.
This is a true story, however it does sound a lot like what we are going through. Being told "soon" and though they job may get done eventually, the hard feelings of "soon" may outweigh the benefit recieved.
I too believe that the revamp docs will NOT be available till next year. There is nothing in the In Concept or In Development forums (suspect TH will update this wth the info he is working on) but, the last listing hadMarch for Pub 11.

Great analogy and unfortunately, I believe it's true. I don't have ANY doubts that the docs and revamp will be great but right now, I feel as if someone is sticking out a carrot to me but it gets pulled back every time I try to bite it. Then I realize that there is a string attached to it. If you are an old Tom & Jerry fan, you may remember this exact episode (when Tom held out the carrot using a fishing pole to get the Dog out of the yard so that he could chase Jerry) andyou'll know what I mean.
I just hate all the delays and sometimes hints like these re: the Great Changes (tm) to come drive me crazy mad every time they push them back. As I said, I have no doubt that they will be great but the delays makes the insanity all the worse. bah.

For this reason I won't post anything more here for awhile cause I know my stupid comments aren't helping anyone unless it's to give someone a tip on being a commando.
I know how you feel Garvin in a way. It's like this. You know this great amazing thing is coming and you've seen it. You keep tellin people that it will be good but you are held under the law not to say anything about it. However the people that you told aren't sure about what your saying some don't even believe you. It seems like no one has faith in you or very little and that makes you feel bad.
I know how that is. When nobody believes or trusts you, you yourself lose hope. I think we are all angry about one thing or another right about now.
I couldn't agree any more with what Novock just said.
