Sorry a really bad question I think, but while I have my flame thrower equiped do I still recieve my TKM meleedamage mitigation and while unarmed do I get my ranged damage mitigation as a master commandoor does it not come into the equation?

Sorry but in game I get told one thing from someone and then the next person says something different.

So I thought I'd just post here and clear it up!

Thanks!

"When Sony and Lucas set out, we said, 'How can we do this and not make another EQ?' We didn't want it to be all about Luke, or combat, or lock our players into a class. So we created a system that would allow players to switch professions during the game, and there would be a lot of gameplay around making that change. If you want to go from architect to scout we've created a system to make that happen." - Julio Torres

No.

Melee mitigation = when you have a melee weap in your hand (unsure if you have to be certified for it)

Ranged mitigation = when you have a ranged weapon in your hand (unsure if you have to be certified for it)

I hate to disagree with you but melee mitigation works while holding a ranged weapon. I took 0/3/0/0 in TKA because I was being hammered as commando when attacking krayts. With Mit 2 I can solo a krayt. That may not be the way its suppose to work but thats how its been working for me.

Likewise back when I was a smuggler/pistoleer I dropped smuggler which give melee mitigation1 and I recieved a noticeable difference more damage when fighting melee creatures while holding my pistol.

I tried it once when I was rifle/swords....

With a rifle (just doing autoattack with a CDEF so I wouldnt kill the bolma too quick), I got pounded. Put a sword in my hand and the damage dropped accordingly.

I might have been/be bugged, but thats been my experience everytime

LOL Doh! See what I mean, one person says this another says that!

Is there an official line on how metigation is meant to work in relation to ranged and melee proffs?

yeah but holding a sword you get your two-handed toughness which acts as a mitigation factor. And with rifles you get only a %50 dmg reduction from block where counteract when successful acts like dodge creating a no hit scenario. You would then take quite a bit more dmg as a rifleman then as a swordsmen.

block barely ever kicks in unless you are capped on block. - lots of tests in the rifleman forums about this

Block works much better for Pikeman as they COB and use block. If they are capped and COB'd they block !!!!

I'm confused dude. You get TWO_HANDED TOUGHNESS when holding a sword that has nothing to do with melee mitigation but acts as a separate and additional mitigator. thats why Melee proffessions are so tough against Jedi especially TKA who have that huge toughness. I believe thats the difference not the melee mitigation or lack thereof. And if block didn't kick in at all then of course you would take a beating.

Explain how I was a Master commando pistoller and got trashed by canyon kryats I drop pistoleer and pick up 0/3/0/0 TKA which gives me melee mit 2 and I can solo a canyon krayt? Nothing changed with my weapon or my armor? Still holding the same FT?

both work constantly .. toughness is a HUGE factor people take for granted ... much higher than block, dodge, or mitigation IMHO .... its a direct % if im correct ... at least thats how the toughness for jedi works ... shouldnt be any diff as it is the same toughness and non-jedi dont have 2 types of toughness (jedi have 2 diff toughness mods .. and they dont double block like youd think but since non jedi's dont .. then it should be a direct % mod)

The first combat revamp when they added in this mitigation crap (wasn't originally part of SWG), there were people who were invincible because at that time you could stack all the mitigations. They at least fixed the mitigation stacking invincibility issue, but we've still been waiting on this current revamp to fix all the other junk.

If you are a TK/Rifleman/Fencer, all your mitigations and mods stack and work regardless of what you are doing or what weapon you are holding. Ranged + Melee mitigation is allowed and works. That's why everyone has 1 branch of an elite combat profession, to add in the opposing mitigation that they lack.

Also, this is why the game is so imbalanced and in desperate need of a revamp/rebalance. If you are a Master Rifleman, you are cannon fodder and worthless in pvp. If you are a less than master rifle mixed with another combat profession, you are a "leet god". That's why nobody will ever voluntarily become a Jedi Master, since there's no way they can add in any of the other professions if they do so. And Jedi Master would have less defenses/mitigations than at least 3 of the lesser combat systems. So expect to always see a Jedi/TK or a Jedi/Fencer, or a Jedi/Rifleman, etc, etc.

Face it, Obi-Wan, Luke and Darth Vader would suck in this game as "pure Jedi's". Which is the only combat profession that any of them had, in their entire lives.

Yes, currently the mitigations and defenses of all the profs work no matter which weapon you're using. Is why there's so many of those mixed templates. I'm hoping that the CU will make it so that only the prof you're currently using (i.e., weapon equipped) will use its bonuses and mods.
