it all depends on the type of barrel you have on it. i have a colt 2 stage match trigger lower and collapsing stock with a 16 and 22 inch upper. now the info i have is from the AR-15s i own. so yes the ar15, M16 can be an assault rifle and a carbine it just depends on the barrel your using at the time.

now the Colt M4A1 is definatly a carbine like i said it just depends on the the barrle really

but the H&K G3 ( the PSG1 sniper rifle is based off of the G3)the FAL, SKS are all assult rifles.

back to topic commandos should have a assult rifle or something along the Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW), M249 Light Machine Gun

IMO rather a SAW/light MG, since assault rifles are, well.. rifles

How about something more along the lines of a squad weapon? E-Web comes to mind from the movies. I'd like to see the Commando really come into it's own in the new battlefields as well, maybe have emplaced weapons only Commandos can use effectively

"First of, the M16A2 rifle we use in RL military is a carbine. Carbines are lightweight RIFLES with shorter barrels, used primary for ASSAULTS. Like the M4 Carbine, etc. Rifles have longer barrels.

So if you're looking to get an assault rifle, try picking up carbineer. While it'sa good idea for the commando profession, use these terms as a guide to what you're seeking.

The flamethrower is already considered the uber weapon of the profession. Perhaps a cold weapon or some sort of electricity weapon would be more beneficial over an assault rifle.

Think futuristic, this is the star wars universe. Have you seen a ranged weapon in the movies that ever didn't resemble a carbine, rifle, or pistol? No, no assault rifles. Because assault rifles are carbines."

By using this logic we shouldn't have the launcher pistol. The fact is, to even become a novice commando we need to train in carbines, rifles, and pistols - so we should at least have some degree of mastery of all of them. Seeing as we already have a rifle and a pistol, I don't think asking for a Heavy Weapons Carbine would be too much to ask for, and the DC-15 assault rifle fills that role nicely.

There are many ways to give commandos a carbine weapon without stepping on carbineer toes, I hope you can realize that.

Yeah, the problem with the Assault Rifle thread is that what we're really asking for is some kind of repeater weapon, a SAW/LMG type weapon as already posted. Might be an idea to edit the original thread title to represent this?

Looking into commando, but if a variant of the M249 is adopted...no thanks.

We'd go do a few missions then have to take a break and spend the next 2 hours cleaning the #$^$&ing thing.

I'd rather get a Red Ryder, not very powerful but fun to use and requires no maintenance.

Heck, give me a Davy Crockett Tac-Nuke. Max yield of 1 kiloton of TNT, and max range of 2.5 miles. Ah, if only No seriously, give us an assualt rifle, and give us some KD/Mind Damage Specials

Hmmmm. Maybe I'm mistaken here, but I thought the M16A2 that I carried for four years in the United States Marines was an Assault Rifle. Looking back at all the manuals and such that I still have that is what it says. M16A2 Assault Rifle. Someone needs to fix a lot of manuals if you are right.

There is a CAR-15 that is considered a carbine, used by a lot of Spec-Ops teams. Shorter barrel, looks almost identical to the M16 except for the shorter barrel. Not trying to flame here but having served as a Marine Infantry Squad leader I think I should do my best to reduce any misunderstandings here.

I've always thought that a carbine was a half pistol/half rifle. More powerful than a pistol but with some of the features (and ammunition capacity of an Assault Rifle). Carbines are most useful for Urban combat (easier to use in cramped conditions) and also useful for troops that don't need the full abilities (see range) of a regular assault rifle, like tankers who don't primarily use the assault rifle but need something small enough to store away for when they do need to get out of their tanks.

agreed with thio

regardless..if its "considered" a carbine....wouldnt we still be able to use it? afterall we did master marksman, which includes carbine training

personally, ive never been in the military..but thio, you are absolutely correct..carbines are about as powerful..but for all purposes are "snub" or close range like a pistol...but if i remember...generally suffer from poorer accuracy, yet its mobility is great for its damage

on another note..you'd think..as being a master marksman..we would have accuracy out the wazoo..afterall to be a rifleman...you NEED great aim..to be a carbineer, you need pretty good aim..to be a pistoleer..eh not the greatest aim..but still required...yet we most likely (dunno bout smuggler/BH) are the worst with accuracy...cuz we dont even use any of our pre-reqs

thus supporting the claim that we NEED AN ASSAULT RIFLE

Ugh..dont want to spam..but my ideas are all choppy today..anyways

Original post you said this:

"So if you're looking to get an assault rifle, try picking up carbineer. While it'sa good idea for the commando profession, use these terms as a guide to what you're seeking."

Tell me..whats the point of being a commando, if we want an assault weapon..we gotta pick up Carbineer? Well? Why even be a commando when the illustrius Assault weapon is a whole 77 skill points less. Not to be rude, but frankly you have no common sense.

"The flamethrower is already considered the uber weapon of the profession. Perhaps a cold weapon or some sort of electricity weapon would be more beneficial over an assault rifle."

Right after this, you say: think futuristic...like Star Wars. Well mr know-it-all...what did you see in the movies? games? Personally...only the Fett's and the Droids in Kotor really used Flamethrowers...nothing much of an Acid Rifle ever seen...electricity weapons not really..and also..BH has LLC..we have the LC (the hvier version..lol..) as a hvy weapon - not an assault/special hvy weapon.

What does that leave? LASER ASSAULT WEAPONS!!!!! We are the only class - save melee of course -that does not use standard Lasers (ya ya, except for the HPBC..but disposables really what i call a viable weapon..or a use all the time one....but also..the HPBC is a particle beam..different fromyour typical laser)

If devs made you king, we would fall further into the abyss of being a broken class - why? More special hvy weapons = even less use of pre-reqs...with an AR to call our own,the devs can put to use theskill mods from marksman..and maybe the specials as well (like what we want for LP...wholeskill tree to buildupon) Currently, all our accuracies build upon novice alone..and dont reach beyond 100 (or 110 for RL i think..forgetting) accuracy...thats still extremely low..considering the somewhere up to+220 accuracy for TKM (which we use the same pre-req) the +170 or so accuracy (dont forget the aim..which enhances this!) for rifleman...and the somwhere in between of+100 to +160 accuracy for pistoleer/carbineer...all these others build upon their pre-reqs..cept us of course

But then...pistoleers for exampleaside from BH..is the closest to our accuracies if i remember....but then again, they havesuper high speed..and missing doesnt really matter at Master...while with us...we're using SPEEDS OF RIFLES, at RANGE OF MELEE....that sure is usingourpre-reqs -- against us.

To end my blabbering, i leave this: Why not take use of our pre-reqs, have a hybrid Assault Rifle that has Ap/Blast unique only to us and have it actually use those nasty lilpre-reqs like the rest of the proffessions do...Hell...even if they made it a dungeon lootitem..i would be happy

If you want to talk about real life military jargon, then think twice about posting that "commandos" dont need assault rifles or carbines. Please, say it again for our amusment.

car·bine n. A lightweight rifle with a short barrel.

The m16 is 20" long. That is not short by modern standards. An M-4 would be a "Carbine" version of the m16. There is a discusion on another forums about carbines. Heres what the general agreed notion is.

"i define carbine as a firearm, which is shorter and lighter than the current infantry's main weapon, yet longer than the standard issue pistol when the M16 came out, it was a carbine to the M14, when the M16 became the standard issue weapon however, it became a rifle..." - JCDenton, Firearmsmod.com

So if you're looking to get an assault rifle, try picking up carbineer. While it'sa good idea for the commando profession, use these terms as a guide to what you're seeking.

I find this amusing. Its not like we are rifleman making an argument that carbines are rifle too, and that we should use them so give us our uber carbine right now!.

No... we take up carbine 4 just like every carbineer in the game. We take up pistol and Rifle as well. But the only skill that comes to any sort of use is pistols. Why is it a bad thing that we ask for an assault rifle? A Carbine or rifle, either way, we want a ranged weapon that is not depletable and has specials.

Bounty-Hunters use carbines and pistols from marksman and advances in them both. Commando only uses pistols and doesnt enhance a single aspect of the pistol skills. Now, it would be logical for us to get the beam rifle, beef it up a bit, give it a tree and call it a day. BH=Carbines n pistols. Commando=rifles n pistols. Sounds fair to me. Were a hybrid proffesion. Why dont deserve a rifle/carbine b? No one has ever posted a good reason why we dont deserve it.

The flamethrower is already considered the uber weapon of the profession. Perhaps a cold weapon or some sort of electricity weapon would be more beneficial over an assault rifle.

Perhaps, a cold dmg assault rifle? Nah...perhaps a sister rifle with that dmg but weaker and slower.... nah....How about Energy dmg Assault rifle that is consistent in stats to allow dmg acceptable by an elite proffesion allowing it to be balanced but just as well a lethal weapon? Yea.. that sounds good to me.

Think futuristic, this is the star wars universe. Have you seen a ranged weapon in the movies that ever didn't resemble a carbine, rifle, or pistol? No, no assault rifles. Because assault rifles are carbines.

Futuristic? Since when 0 immunity to disease and poisons futuristic. That sounds middle ages to me. Virtualy 0 combat use for droids? Not at all futuristic. 2 films already featured combat droids being the main enemy. IG-88? 4-LOM ring a bell? Granted they are both bounty hunters, but righ down to it, they are combat oriented droids.

The movies showed "Blasters". Simply just that in either a pistol shape, or in a rvery short rifle. Assault rifles arent always carbines. Like I said before and my friend JCDenton, a carbine in general would be a shorter version ofa rifle.

An assault rifle; there is a generally accepted definition of assault rifle: an imedium-caliber selective-fire rifle weaponthan can be fired fully automatically or semi-automatically , using ammunition sometimes more powerful than pistol ammunition but not as powerfull as a standard rifle cartridge. Carbines can and have used ammunition as powerfull as a rifle cartridge because they are simply a short version if a rifle. The best example ( and first ) of an assault rifle can be the German MP-44. Considered to be a true assault rifle. The "Sturmtruppe" was a person who used this rifle.

Yes, so obviously were not in the military...

With all due respect...The modern (20th/21st Century) definition of a carbine is a long arm that fires pistol ammunition. The M16/A1/A2 fires rifle ammunition and is therefore a rifle. The M4, while using the same upper/lower reciever configuration fires pistol ammunition and is therefore a carbine. I'm not out to flame you and even gunsmiths will argue the point. What did this have to do with SWG again? I suppose what we're looking for in an SWG "Assault Rifle" would be the equivalent to the BAR in WWII: a one-man weapon firing ammo normally projected by a crew served weapon.

So if you're looking to get an assault rifle, try picking up carbineer. While it'sa good idea for the commando profession, use these terms as a guide to what you're seeking.

An SWG Caribineer is essentially firing a sub-machinegun, defined as a fully automatic long arm that fires pistol ammunition. Examples would be the Uzi and Thompson (Thompson was the first to coin the term "sub-machinegun" during a demonstration of that weapon).

The flamethrower is already considered the uber weapon of the profession. Perhaps a cold weapon or some sort of electricity weapon would be more beneficial over an assault rifle.

I'm guessing a lot of people are looking for a kinetic weapon with similar damage/speed to a Flamethrower. If we got something that looked like a T21 with a big magazine, did kinetic damage and had the specials "Burst Single/Spread" 1 and 2 (essentially a kinetic FT), that might suffice.

Think futuristic, this is the star wars universe. Have you seen a ranged weapon in the movies that ever didn't resemble a carbine, rifle, or pistol? No, no assault rifles. Because assault rifles are carbines.

Oddly enough, when the SW prop crew put together weapons for the movie, they used modified surplus German weapons (hence the DL44, a Mauser pistol with a flash cone). One of the weapons carried by STs on Tatooine was a modified MG42 LMG. That weapon might have been what the T21 was based on. By the way (semantics again), an assault rifle is defined as a long arm firing rifle ammunition with the addition of selective fire (semi/full auto).
