well, if i were to think of the first thing that comes to mind when i think of commandos (in general, not in game), it would be crazy-mad-ninja-stealth infiltration.
(and semi-automatic weapons). what would make commandos more like (well, for lack of a better pop-culture correlation) rambo who was in the movies a green beret - why don't we have some kind of stealth tree? some kind of "mask radar" or something.
this would be something that would give us a chance to avoid showing up on enemy radar and keep the name from popping up over our heads when we got close enough to a player (not necessarily untargetable, but visually hidden) until combat. working for players and npc's the same way mask scent would on creatures.
i would also think we would have a carbine tree, as that is the closest thing to what real-life commandos would be using primarily.
really believe in the stealth tree idea though. wear all black and sneak around. that's what i think of when i hear the word commando.
thoughts?

ya I think so too we should get some face paint or something that can conceal us form others untill we are in your face. And they are caught off guard and we get a bonus for the first attack. Then we can fade away and wait to cath them off guard again.

well, i don't necessarily think it should be so "uber", just a little something. something realistic.
as it is, i just use unarmed on about everything with the occassional flame cone or single when kd'd. launcher pistol on things that are only vulnerable to that (as grenades and rocket launchers don't work in caves and such)and occassionally one of the marksman guns (that we're barely competant in) if something is only energy vulnerable or i don't feel like imposing heavy weapons lag on the poor melee guys in the group.
trying to make everything else work, but is a har really more damaging over time than a hopped up dxr6?

I was going to knock your idea 'cause I didn't know what tree you wanted to replace nor did I know what kind of XP you thought some be used to move up the tree. Plus, I wasn't sure how stealth would work into the game.
Then I stopped to think. Now I like your idea. I'd say make it part of the Field Tactics tree or its own tree. Move the grenade certs to the Heavy Weapons tree or combine the FT and AR trees. The benefit of stealth would allow the Commando take on a mob without aggro'ing its friends. Either that or a quick kill if you can sneek up on it either unarmed or with some kind of large Commando knife (a new Commando certified weapon, natch). As you move up the tree, you can take on higher level creatures or NPCs. If you fail, the creature aggros you like when a BE tries to sample and fails.
That's my 2 credits. Anyone else?
I'm not sure how this would work in PVP.
Woohoo, I can edit now.

yeah, regardless of the reason, it seems a lot of people are pushing for the har and ft to combine trees. seems odd (and i hesitate to say this as they're useful) weapons for a commando (i don't picture navy seals jumping onto an enemyship and setting everyone on fire)
another idea i had was to have a carbine tree in commando too (and make that the stealth tree too, as that's the closest gun in the game to what commandos would use) but that's a different subject altogether and i'm really currently interested in the commando community getting the stealth idea in there heads to mull it over for now...
i like the feild tactics idea though.

If you think back to the days of WWII when the "commandos" first came around (at least in terms of modern thinking), they were the elite "jack-of-all-combats" trade. They were well trained with explosives (i.e. walk up to an enemy fortification, stick a thermite detonation pack on it, and BOOM 100K points of damage). Also, they were the first silent assassins. Somewhere on these boards I read someone mention a device that would essentially cloak a commando from radar (i.e. Jammer). As far as weapons go, real life commandos are trained in all weapons, not just a strict few; however, for game purposes I'd rather be great at a few than just "ok" at everything.

yeah, i'm kind of surprised by the lack of response from the general commando community on this. maybe it's a little too ambitious?
would also make sense to have like 1 special in the commando trees for each of the marksman guns...however, i'm rambling other ideas again.

how bout this we use the idea of stealth in teh field tactice tree and move the renades over to heavy support cause well they are. Then we combine the acid and FT into one tree and then have a completly new tree for a carbine of somesort. and we can use the same carbines as carbineers at master.
or something like that
