Thread: Should the HAR be AP2? Maths inside. Please vote. (Necro, still unfortunately valid.)

Before you all flame me, I want to make the important distinction that:

1) I am glad that the Flamethrower gets more power from damage than DOT now. It's far far more sensible that high heat resist creatures / armoured opponents take considerably less damage from flamethrowers than those with low resists.

2) I am majorly pissed off that they didn't make the rest of our weapons work FIRST.

I've done some quick calculations concerning the HAR and FT. If the Speed and Accuracy mods worked, and the HAR was made AP2, then the HAR would do considerably more damage than the FT against anything which is AR 1/Heat Resist 0 and above.

Some quick Maths:
All weapons default attacks are 1.5x damage of the damage stat of the weapon.
Flame Single and Acid Single 2 both had a 5x Damage Multiplier. Post-publish 6, FS2 seems to be more around the 7.5x mark. AS2 has not changed.
For every level of Armour Piercing that the weapon has higher than the target's Armour, there is a 1.25x damage multiplier.
For every level of Armour that the target has higher than the weapon's Armour Piercing, there is a 0.5x damage multiplier.

Example. A 400-800 Speed 4.8 Flamethrower using Flame Single 2 against:

An AR0 target: 4500-9000 damage.
An AR1 target: 2250-4500 damage.
An AR2 target: 1125-2250 damage.
An AR3 target: 563-1125 damage.

These figures are before Heat resists applied.

An unarmoured target in PVP: 1125-2250, enough to kill the unbuffed in one shot almost every time.
An armoured target in PVP with 50% Heat Resists: 281-563.
An armoured target in PVP with 80% Heat Resists: 113-225. I see this kind of damage all the time.

All these have a 12 second recharge timer.

Now, an -AP2- 310-710 5.2 Speed Acid Rifle using Acid Single 2 against:

An AR0 target: 3633-8320 damage.
An AR1 target: 2906-6656 damage.
An AR2 target: 2325-5325 damage.
An AR3 target: 1163-2663 damage.

These figures before Acid Resists applied.

Note that against the unarmoured target, Flame Single 2 in more powerful, but against all other targets, the HAR becomes useful!

Now, PVP. Acid Single 2 vs:

An unarmoured target in PVP: 908-2080, still enough to kill the unbuffed in one shot most times, though less often.
An armoured target in PVP with 50% Acid Resists: 363-832.
An armoured target in PVP with 80% Acid Resists: 145-333.

Now, lets compare PVP damage with the armoured targets. Against 50% composite, the FT averages 422 damage, and 169 vs 80%. The Acid Rifle manages to average 598 vs 50% composite, and 239 vs 80%. That's 41-42% more damage than the FT! Overall DPS increase in PVP of 25%!

The best bit of that: ALL THE DEVS HAVE TO DO IS CHANGE ONE INSIGNIFICANT SODDING NUMBER FROM 0 TO 2. And fix the acc/speed mods, of course.

Sadly no, still only the mods at Novice and Master work.

Does anyone else remember the days when there was no cert for the HAR, shortly after release?

They fixed the cert, making it read "cert rifle acid beam" or similar. I wonder if that broke all the mods in the line...

According to TH, there is nothing broken in the commando profession. I assume we are supposed to have broken mods for a second rate weapon.

Well, we could flame you... but it would only do 75% of what it used to do LOL

Lol, so sad and true. BTW, this isa great thread, but none of this will ever see the light of day. It is a shame, too bad J3ster didn't get TH's job.

Good post Razor. I agree 100% that this new change would almost be a good trade had we gotten our HAR fixed (even if the AP stayed the same I'd be happy). Unfortunetly the devs won't even take a crack at this until the combat pass which will most likely be another couple months away (3 is my guess... 2 publishes on droids then a 3rd for combat). Seeing as cone2 now lost a lot of it's appeal since the single2 dot is the one I'd have to choose to apply since it's stronger, I might be dropping master commando for just a 0040 and pick up some other skills until they fix commando. It's something I never thought I'd do but this is just frustrating.

Oh, and it looked like your AP numbers were right as far as I could tell..

Thankyou. I'm trying to gauge whether or not people think that AP2 would make the HAR a viable, and yet unique weapon. I've seen lots of people say "make it exactly like the LLC", but that'd be boring. AP1'd make a difference, but not enough of one, IMO. Hell, if the Disruptor Rifle is getting AP2 Acid damage, why not the Heavy Acid Rifle?

So: How many people agree that the following minuscule list is a Commando priority?

HAR Speed mods that work
All the HAR Accuracy mods work
AP2 on HAR
Fixed Graphics on HAR
No more brown sticks.

Considering the HAR has no dot, and the description in the HAR line talks about desintegrating armor, you would think that the HAR would have something along the lines of ap2. Once again, it all comes down to who is supplying the information to the devs. Well, that person thinks commando is the most uber profession in any mmorpg ever created. If anything, I think we'll have more nerfs coming our way, as long as TH is around.
