Thread: *sigh* still an I win button in the game...

best thing you can do is try to out distance them and stay at range. Most BHs use pistols so try to use a KD then run and try to snare them. Pick at them with something out of their reach and keep KDing them. They do get a pretty nasty root ability, but if all else fails... try taking a few points in a melee prof. They can't counter melee attacks with aduelist stanceso it might give you a small advantage.
That is not a bad idea, I was pritty close and im unfamilar with pistol ranges yet. I know lightening cannon has a fairly good range and its one of my better damage weapons. I used that first and didnt do so hot. But then again I also figured range is range and he would shoot me no matter how far I ran due to my range limitations also. But I know I could do no amount of damage to him no matter how hard I hit him.
I am master commando, smuggler 4010 and marksman 4444
And as far as my defenses. I have a full suit of assult armor with 6K kenetic defenses and 5K everything else.

You have a "I win" button too (well, sort of), fast Plasma flamethrower + corellian cream + Lastditch! Corellian cream can get you out of incap almost instantly.

That seems to be the one weakness with smuggler templates. My personal suggestion would be to try re-spec'ing your unused marksman points into the novice levels of something else like Rifleman, or Carbineer, since that would net you some stronger base attacks.
This is correct. Smuggler is not meant to be a profession that does a lot of damage. Its main role is that of crowd control. It applies states and such to control the flow of a battle, rather than focusing on high-damage specials. If you're looking for more damage, Smuggler isn't the place to go. It is incredibly useful, though.

Ok what is a high damage special class I can get into?
BH is intended to be a tank profession - and is the only ranged tank profession at that. Melee has Center Of Being, which adds, IIRC, 250 points to defense instead of just the 150 BH get. Also, damage reflected back at the attacker is a measly 25 points per shot, and then only if the attacker is ranged (i.e. melee damage is not reflected).
Another thing often overlooked is that the BH must stand stock-still without attackingfor a short 1-2 second warmup period while Improved Defensive Stance activates, which can make the BH in question very vulnerable for a short time; BH also spend HAM to activate the ability.
I will go on record stating that you can get some wicked BASE defensive stats with a little creative templating, which Improved Duelist Stance only adds to.
As an example:
MCommando/MBH/Pistoleer 0/0/0/4
Melee Defense: 275
Ranged Defense: 255
Those are base; with Improved Duelist Stance active, they look like this:
Melee: 425
Ranged 405
Again, be aware that melee characters with Center of Being and a proper tank template can easily beat this.

Carbineer and Rifleman both have high damaging specials, with carbineer offering a bit more flexibility in how you can execute 'em, since you don't have to go prone or anything. BH has a decent damage shot with critical shot as well.
From what little I have been able to understand about duelist stance, from my own use,it's not reflecting much damage (if any) back on the attacker, but it adds a large defensive boost (something like 150). My mbh/master carbineer has an accuracy over 200 with carbines. Compare that to the accuracy you'll have with your build and the defense with your chosen weapon... You should have had a difficult time even hitting the bh. True, the bounty hunter's defense and accuracy would have been lower since he was a bh/cm, but the beauty of duelist stance to a bh is the defenseboost. Your mixed template would not allow you to get substantial defense or accuracy.
Of the three elite ranged profs the novice damage skills are from lowest to highest: body shot, head shot, leg shot. Those last two seem like they should be reversed, but the current system has leg shot as the highest damage. Also remember under the new system that more speed = higher dps since for a given cert level most weapons are about even on dps. What's your speed, accuracy, and defense when wielding your chosen weapon? It would seem to me that all three of those would be on the low side using a commando/smuggler build.
You mentioned that you only got 1 shot in to 5 of his. Did you get paralyzed? If so, your problem is more with paralyze and combat medicsthan it is with duelist stance and bounty hunters.
