Thread: ThunderHeart: DOT changes will increase griefing.

TH, i remember reading one of your posts where you were saying that the fire dot had to be changed because it was unfair, because it was used for griefing , because there was no way to put it out, etc etc.

I hate to get personal on this, but are you people blind? Or is this just another display of SOE's ignorance on their own game?

I'll list the issues that will arise with the dot changes:

- Fire dot granting XP: This is the biggest one of the bunch. First you say that a commando could go around using flamespecial on other people's targets (when commando not in their group) and griefing them of xp.

As it is now, the commando get ZERO xp from fire dot damage, only xp granted is from the initial damage (not dot) done. But now you guys will REWARD flamespecial/firedot griefers by GIVING them XP? Now, it may just be me, but I can easily imagine the hordes of flamethrower users just running around dathomir using a single flamespecial on any target other groups are firing at and be royally rewarded with xp, at no risk.

Fire dot granting xp is a BAD idea and will bite you in the arse just a week after this change goes live.

-ATST resistant to fire dots. Ok, so the imperials get rewarded with a massive superpet that now has NO counter by the rebellion? Call me shirley, but last time I checked the atst was not a sealed vehicle..it had open hatches and is a lightly armored scouting unit, not a tank. BUT ill grant the imperials that it costs too many faction points and it WAS easy to bring down with the fire dot stacking.

BUT now there will be no fire dot stacking. So that threat is removed. One fire dot on a unit that has more than enough time to survive to get to water or to kill the commando and then be stored is not exactly an issue any more is it?

However, the fact that a 9k faction point pet can be killed by a non-fp costing weapon IS unbalanced. The empire is supposed to have an upper hand. So, to make all sides happy about this change, how about this:

Make the ATST completely invulnerable to fire dot.

Add 'legendary' rocket launcher to rebel recruiter weapon list. This RL would do 12k damage max, 8k min, 30 shots, 10 second refire delay, costs 4k faction points (4k because not all of the 30 rockets will hit, the commando CANNOT single handedly kill the atst since he dont have enough time (delay), will not be used for PVE (really, waste 4k faction killing mobs? thats dumb)) and can only be used by commandos, thus the empire gets the advantage of ANY imperial using the ATST, but only rebel commandos being able to counter this superpet.. and even then, with a 4k disposable weapon, they have a weak chance of bringing it down on their own.

I agree Tac...I never understood that logic and brought it up several times after the recent announcements...

In the before days, when stacking did grant xp, I totally could see much grief over kill stealing...but since that change (no damage xp granted) a commando could no longer rely on just placing a Dot to be granted loot rights, we actually have to do non-DoT damage (and the majority of completing)...so that very effectively ended that type of griefing...

But TH's logic is to remove stacking, but again allow the DoT to count towards looting rights...This is back'asswards...We should keep stacking and keep no DoT damage xp/looting rights with out doing the majority of damage in a non-DoT way...otherwise we are right back to where we were (grief wise) prior to the previous change...

It's a very noticable pattern to all but the Dev's that they keep changing one thing, changing it back, then changing it again and so on...they'd have more time to fix other things if they'd stop going back and forth OR actually took the time to talk to us to see what is working and not working...We could easily tell them they are making YET ANOTHER mistake here...but no, they'd rather take the time and resources to figure it out on their own...now that's some serious Logic....

As of the Legendary RL idea...I can see it...but really...who's beating that deceased horse now...lol...Like I brought up last time you brought up this idea...beyond not being able to use it PvE, it needs to be restricted to just Faction Fights with the same rules that apply to the ATST...I know you say that people wouldn't waste it in other types of fights, but that's not good enough...it has to follow the same rules otherwise you though things off balance rule wise...

garvin, using a 4k fp RL on nonpvp is like buying a pack of 5 proton grenades for 1 million credits.

anyone using the legendary RL on..say, kimoglias or the likes, will get good damage (but then again whats theblast resist on kimo and what's its ham? not to mention random ham damage on a 100k+ ham creature means a 30 shot rocket launcher will not likely kill it.. and hey, waste 4k xp to kill something that will likely not drop loot.. hahaha.

Tac it's not about logic, cost, damage or anything like that...it's about fairness...I don't care if the Legendary RL did 1K damage or 100K damage...if it's a faction related weapon for rebels in response to the ATST then it MUST follow the same rules...otherwise we will have folks calling foul and attempting (notice I say attempting) to use it as an arguement to lift the faction only restrictions for the ATST...I can see it now..."The rebels get to use their faction toy PvP...why can't we!!!"....it's easily avoided...and if you think someone would be stupid to use it on a non-faction way, then what's the problem making it a rule that it can only be used faction wise?

erm it is about logic. the atst is a tank and a damage dealing weapon and was abused in pve (and back then it could be healed by medics) because it could tank and deal tremendous damage.

let the imperials whine, when the rebels get a vehicle (snowspeeder?) the imps get access to the leg. RL.

besides, you talking fairness with SOE? go back to your bong!

If they wanna make a weapon that can do that much damage then as an Imp I want one too.

I WILL use it on rebels.... So far I use a ton of rockets in pvp... I go through bundles of them... got 40 RL's in my armory now.

Faction pts. are useless to me except for playing around with ranks., if it cost 10k fp's like an at st does..... I would shy away from them... but 4k sheesh... I can buy that much. I have an 80% hit rate with an RL at 50m... So far I can pretty much 1 hit incap ... only thing that stops me is really good armor.. It will take me 2 rockets on 75% compo.... If I had an RL like u speak of... I would incap the 90% compo wearing rhinos in 1 hit.

It will unlevel the playing field.

At-St's are just being given love because, lets face it... no one hardly uses them anymore.

On my server (kauri), U know when the Imps have won, because they whip out the metal chicken trophies... not before. I personally will not pull mine out unless I need a bigger mission... I would never risk my ST as of now... it would drop in about a minute in combat and I would lose 10k in fp's and a meal ticket

Tac...the ATST was removed from PvP and PvE and reserved for Faction fights mainly because that's what it was always intended for...not only because of abuse...The Imps were given that toy to encourage more people to join the Imperial ranks since things were so off-sided...

In you posts you have stated someone would be silly to use this Legendary RL for anything but hunting ATSTs...so what would the problem be making it only usuable in a Faction fight (when the Commando is declared)? Your own responses validate this...It would be in the best interest and solve a lot of future whining (which causes dev headaches and issues to us resulting from dev headaches) by cutting the head off of the source of pain before it becomes a pain...

I've noticed a strong pattern with you Tac...you seem to have trouble seeing things from a Non-Commando perspective...You keep proposing things for Commandos that are great ideas, but you don't seem to realize (or maybe care) how outsiders would respond...I try to take a Commando and Non-Commando perspective on any suggested change...What's in our best interest that won't end up getting NERF'd to hell due to whiners down the road...I saw the same pattern when you were proposing the LP not use Pistol specials (to prevent Pistoleers and Smugglers from using our LP) while at the same time wanting us to be able to use Rifle specials...it's not about the weapons and not about the specials...you can have one side of the coin without the other...the Dev's keep trying that and it leads to NERFs down the road when they figure out their error...

A Legendary RL would be great for dealing with ATSTs, Turrents, etc...But if allowed to be used when covert, someone will abuse it...you can say they'd be foolish and silly all you want, but someone would find a way to grief with it...the Imps would cry foul and as we have seen the Dev's respond very well to whiners...which would lead to either a Major Nerf of the weapon or at the very least moving it to only being usable while Overt...Why not save the time and headache (as well as a possible nerf) and just go straight to the overt ruling...

I would give it 10 minutes from a Dev announcement of this new RL before some Imp would start the chorus of "Hey, we can only use our ATSTs when we are Overt, how come they can use the Rebel RL while covert...no fair no fair..."....and unfortunately I can guarentee they Dev's would listen...you'll get farther with the Dev's if you demonstrated to them that you thought ahead and are trying to save them headaches...they like that kind of thing...

Tac, im terribly sorry to say but TH says that he wont respond to non-positive attitude posts...

That in itself has no logic as when a game comes to a point where theres very little to be possitive about, how would anyone have htier voices heard? If the staff would listen and respong to the good as well as the ugly then things wouldnt be so bittter. But , somehow they feel this logic will enforce positive conversations when truely people get the feeling of being suppresed/ignored when they speak thier mind on how things are from thier perspective. The devs must understand that there are many views on one subject and being biased to say that thiers are the right ones ( which is usualy the attitude ) always succesfully angers your paying customers.

Despite all our well thought ideas, propositions, and arguments, no matter how correct you are, it always seems to end up not making a difference.

Not to say the least, the head of combat developer said himself he doesnt have any plans to give commandos upgrades or of that nature. This has an aura of him disliking the commando proffesion a great deal. We are at a lose lose situation and the odds are stacked against us with the ignorant and the opionated devs.

To all the commandos still fighting to get our proffesion from the bottom of the barrel and helping to make sense of the 169 skill point ussage .... /salut

not really garvin. Well, if the imps cry so much, let them have the legendary RL too. Fat good it will do them to burn 4k fp's on something a normal rocket launcher does (vs players) anyway.

LOL...most of our debates come from not hearing each other I think...I am not even suggestingImps wouldwant the Legendary RL...they might, but that's not the issue I'm attempting to convey to you...they would use the the IDEA of the Rebel RL to push for their faction toy also being usuable while not Overt...They'd say "if they can, why can't we...their faction toy can be used covert, so our faction toy should be usable covert also...wah!"...sure it's not the same, but it doesn't mean they won't do it...and if enough of them whine, we know how the dev's react...why give them extra fodder to add to their whines?

That's the reason I suggest making it an overt only toy, so the imps can't use the IDEA of it as a reason they should get to use ATSTs while covert...Think about it...Imagine if the dev's gave aSuperPet to one side and said it could only be used while overt...Then they gave a weapon that was created with the intent of using against this Super Pet to the other side, but said they could use it while covert or overt...that wouldn't go over too well...

We'd end up hearing the Devs tell us "The Rebel Legendary Rocket Launcher was never meant to be used for anything else besides against ATSTs or Imp Bases...therefore we are making it an overt status only weapon..." just like they said about ATSTs...Why not just jump to that point in your proposal and cut all those future whines out of our lives regarding the covert/overt issue.

Oh god not this BS "legendary rocket" crap again. I KNEW you would try bringing that up again Tac, I knew it.

YOUR the one who wanted to nerf the commando's DOT in the first place! "move it to master" you said. Well guess what einstein, its nerfed. Pick up the **edit** pistol launcher, and give that a whoorl.

From the way you discribe this RL I doubt you have EVER used a normal RL in your ENTIRE career, except maybe at novice. I fired an RL at a Rifleman at 64m while he was running back and fourth, 1 hit he was down, no aims no nothing, 1 shot, thats all it took. These things are NOT the insanely innacurate piles of crap your trying to make them out to be.

Uh no they should not be the most powerful weapon. They should be exactly what they are, change the HAM costs (reduce them) and maybe increase the damage, hell have it get a 300% bonus against vehicles and structures and its done. But I use RLs alot and no its not miss miss miss its hit hit hit 5 people at once. I currently have over 100 RLs on my Commando (came down from 200 over the last week). For now I use them often in PvP, but I usually have a healer handy to keep me alive. Its exactly what I wanted, a long range heavy artillery weapon.

um yes they should

1 RL take the most recourses in game to make thus they should out dam any wep

2 RL take the most factory componits ever need for a wep thous they should have a highr dps then any othere wep

3 RL is the only wep you actuly have to put in other weps 8 proton gernads ech do about 4k dam thees should stack but they dont and you rarely see a RL over 4k dam thous thees gernades alon should make the dam about 32k dam (now thats a litel steep but heck atlest make it 15k dam )

4 they are comsumabel weps limeted shot usly about 30 shots and there gone this makes evrey singel shot cost alot thous this is the most expansive wep to use in game wich meens it should be worth useing but as it stands it ant

5 there are many more resons but I think you get my point and if you dont ill let you have it with both barls of facts why it should be
