This is for all you dear, darling riflemen who have taken it upon yourselves to come here and laugh at us, tell us how to play a class you have no experience with, or my favorite, lecture us on things you frankly haven't bothered to research....

Since the last patch when our flamethrowers were made workable the commando profession board has consistently united behind the suggestion to the devs that our weapons not do the 2.5x melee damage multiplier to you, the riflemen. We felt it was unfair and an obvious bug, and labored from the day it went live to get it fixed.

Over the past month many of us as individuals have posted in support of the riflemen as a whole, in various threads and various forums. Having gotten a little bit of love we were content even with three-quarters of our profession still not performing adequetely to wish the devs to focus their efforts on classes that were in even worse shape. Having come from the bottom of the barrel in terms of being broken, we naturally felt a great deal of sympathy for other classes that were in bad shape.

We supported you.

I regret that with every fiber of my being. Your behaviour over the past day has been childish, petty, vindictive, ill-informed, ill-argued, condescending and even vicious. I am ashamed that I ever posted anything in support of a profession who's members have behaved as you have.

So, please, enjoy your gloating. It comes at the price of alienating those who have supported you and wished you well, and making enemies where once you had friends. When your class finally, finally gets some attention.... I wonder, how long will it be before someone shouts "Nerf riflemen!". Now, of course, the only question is whether that someone will be a commando who had until now been trying to get your profession fixed.

Be proud, riflemen. It's only taken you a day to destroy months of support and good wishes.

Thanks for posting this Romana, I feel exactly the same way. Wish I never would have supported riflemen.

This is very simply the devs way of thinning out the Commando ranks, and the same thing has happened to each of the 'trendy' professions. Each profession that getsextremely strong inevitably gets a big hit that makes everybody complain, and many fly-by-nights shift to another job.

Creature Handler got it (and is still getting it), Bounty Hunter came next (and looks to be getting more), and now Commando takes ahit - your first (and not last, I'll bet) since your holy-grail patch last month that made you really bust heads. It's consistent with the dev's track record of making - then breaking - classes whose numbers get rediculous and who have a decidededge in pvp.

As for the Riflemen thing - yeah, they shouldn't be haughty asses about it. Getting nerfed sucks, but in this case, it made sense - from a strictly dev consistency vantage.

Don't be so quick to become vindictive yourselves, those persons posting in here are a small fraction of the total rifleman population. Most rifleman wish no ill towards any profession (save some quick quips about pistoleers) but almost all have a sense of frustration over the constant fear of being jumped and killed by baby kreetles. With rifleman's near uselessness unless near master, many novice rifleman who tried to participate in PvP (getting utterly rocked by bounty hunters and flame throwing commandos) gained targets to vent their frustrations on. It is unlikely they read this forum. They don't know of your support (and probably wouldn't even care). They are ecstatic about this for the same reason Jerry Springer and the like are popular: people like to see people worse off than themselves and they wish to rub it in.

Be careful about making enemies. I'm sure most rifleman got a little chuckle when they found out about new 2.5x damage on commandos (I know I did). But the mature ones did their chuckling in private. They quickly returned to a normal state of mind and will line up to fight for you the same way you fought for them. Riflemen may be showing the worst of their community right now. Just remember, the commando community isn't free of these types either (especially with commando being one of the popular PvP classes right now and the type of person that gravitates towards that environment).

Sigh. Your right Touryn. It is fustrating though to have so many come here and claim to represent you guys and they do nothing other than troll.

I have never understood the melee deficit that the devs inflict on anyone. I would think that the range mods would be a better balanceing point. If a rifleman is going to miss 9:10 within 10m I would think that would be enough. But alas i'm not a developer or I would have riflemen hitting every target at 50m or greater (moving or not).

I couldn't agree more. I myself am a master Rifleman, I came here to simply confirm the 2.5% melee modifier, appears that it is true. I would be forced to believe that the Riflespecs who came here to berate Commandos are those of a small percentage of Riflespecs. I must admit tho, when first hearing of the nerf, I did think "now someone knows how we feel", but at the same time, I could'nt believe that SoE would add this damaging nerf to any other class. I for one, and I would believe many, many other Riflespecs are dissapointed to hear that this 2.5X od is being added to Commandos, and in fact, still being considered as a viable solution to any class period.

They are. I just frankly doubt there's anything "better" to be seen from them at this point.

You're right in this. Of course, one place where it HASN'T been true is here on the commando boards. The commando COMMUNITY has not behaved in anyway but supportive frienship to you. The commando's who make up our community.... MrHeavy, Ivonni, Theedage, MasterSynn and so many others I can't even begin to name, the bedrock of the commando profession, have always supported you. On the rifleman forum today, the pillars of YOUR community have chosen to behave atrociously.

i just say we need to stand up togather to get this harabel 2.5 thingy removed all to gather its retarded and thats that we dont need to be poking fun at one anouther we need to stand to gather and get it changed

So, I haven't really been much one way or the other on rifleman damage... or any other big huge balance issue with other classes, except to try to defend, logically, what the commando has.

So, that probably influences what I'm about to say: The riflemen are mad, their profession is pretty banged up, and they see the flavor of the month profession take a big hit and salivate thinking about how all the griefers are going to go away... so they laugh, and they are happy, and they say things they should think better of... and, especially the smarter ones, will come to their senses in a day and be sorry.... so, I say, don't burn too many bridges in return.

Likewise. I'm a PvE player. I have only rarely bothered with PvP in this game. I have never posted a nerf cry and -always- posted in support of every other profession with severe problems. No more. Riflemen have made their bed with me, now they're going to have to lie in it.

Ath, I don't know how long you've been a commando. It doesn't matter, really.... but I've been one since the beginning. When commandos were totally broken and everyone was a creature handler and that class got nerfed.... WE didn't behave as the riflemen are behaving now. When commandos were broken and everyone was a pistoleer or bounty hunter for the knockdowns and those got taken away... WE didn't behave as the riflemen are behaving now.

The commando community has always, from day one, been a community of those who support fixing every class and opposing nerfs on any class. Today the rifleman community proved the same thing could not be said about them.

They had my support. Now they have my scorn.

posts, there are actually quite a number of riflemen, either siding with us, or telling the other to be more respectful/not be gleeful in others who have been dumped in the same boat.

Maybe you should re-read some of their posts... but some people over there still like us.
