1. Get a secondary profession with a root, smuggler works well but dont expect to do any damage what so ever.
2. Get a rifleman to group with you always.
3. Go hunt mobs, let them pull the mobs they want and you wait for the mob to get out of the groupof other mobs so that you can attack it and not agro the world.
4. ROOT ROOT ROOT! if the rifleman has a root you two can alternate roots and solo about anything that wants to melee with you. They do all the damage, while you keep them stuck in one spot or slowed to walking speed.
5. IF the rifleman accidentlyagro the entire group of mobs, this is where you really shine. Pull out the plasma thrower, jump in front of them, and root the entire nest. Both of you run like h3ll till the agro is off of you and then try again. This will save a lot of lives and make you the hero of the day because of the mass root.
Devs please dont read this and think we are working as intended, we are broke as hell. But this is a pritty good tactic around being completely worthless and the guy left at home peeling potatos while everyone else goes out to fight.

AoE Disarm, that's gotta be good.
If Commando/Smuggler didn't lack so much on the offensive side... still, the crowd control looks awfully appealing

Yeah, Ive actually helped out my groups every now and then with a AoE Root or Disarming shot, its quite nice but those are only when my group is over its heels and we already got multiple enemies killing us off left and right.

Yeah I have zero damage what so ever, and I was an idiot and listened to a best friend who was just telling me to go smuggler so she could take advantage of my roots, all the while staying a power profession herself.

Right now, a commando can really save the day in certain roles. Like earlier, I was with a doctor/pikeman (who ironically was outdamaging me immensely as he was able to do AoE attacks for 800-1000 damage, while I was only hitting single targets for 900-1000). I was using my PFT/LBC solely to get AoE disarming shot and Charge Shot, as well as the DoTs (also used 3 thermal detonators and the DoTs helped a little bit, but weren't really effective on targets we were attacking).
When we were mobbed by a good 10-15 CL 24-27 Imperial NPCs at the PvE faction base we were fighting at, he was low on health and was trying to run away so he could get a breather. I was able to KD 50-75% (in one or two cases almost all too) and disarm the NPC group and we eventually one without a single incap.
Now...yeah I was useful, but I was also being outdamaged, my own innate states weren't really effective, and I was more of a carbineer with a big gun than a commando. Also prior, when I was alone I was aggroing everything within the base as well. This is the fundamental flaw...our role is not the reality ingame.

I have Commando/MasterBountyHunter/Pistols xxx4 and it is amazing doing a improved stopping shot on a group of already aggroed mobs put that with BH's underhand shot and you can get an area knock down. Fun Fun Fun
