Thread: So what do you hunt nowadays?

I know the melee penalty hurts (that's what made me quit rifleman), but I'm finding thatthe new social mobs are causing me even more problems.

Before, I used to hunt torturs on Talus. But after the patch, theybecame social. Now, I can handle 1 tortur if I'm wearing armor (although barely), but since they gang up on me, I'm getting incapped in less than 10 seconds.

So, does anyone have a favorite animal(s) to huntnowadays that won't mob you?

Krayt Dragons, Kimogillas, Pubam Chiefs, and all the big bad things that can one-shot me without blinking... of course, I DO use a Graul Mauler for a tank...

Without a tank, I stick to Durnis - even those can be a challenge if I piss off 2 at once.

Lately I've gone to Endor and find that Marauders in the wilderness only travel in pairs.

With a clever taunt like "Your mother uses a HAR to douche!" I get the 11' tall savage's attention...while his buddy laughs at him because he actually knew his mother. Then once I single one off, hit the standard flamesingles and cone to stack. Like a fool, he will commonly take a knee and not chase me down, which is his loss, due to the ammount of trees to take cover behind.

lately I've been asking myself, why? I seem to have 850,000 points of HW exp I'm never gona use...but it's either that or trying to go toe to toe with the 11' tall monstrosity which I promptly just insulted.

Is it only a melee damage multiplier? I got shot by a rifle in pvp, and despite full armour, took over 900 damage... I'm getting shot to bits by enemy blue cons as well 'cause they just run away and I can't use my specials.

So to answer the question, I'm currently hunting nothing. Not worth it. I can't take out three lesser bocatts at once any more.

Thank god I don't need anymore hw xp.....so work on the rest of the xp types I do need.

Leviasquall missions on rori seem to be "broken" or "fixed" now however you want to view them. The 128m lair reset trick results in the mission dissapearing after about 8 kills.

However, snorbals on lok have become more profitable for ranged xp. Only kill attack the elder females (females now attack you if you go for calves). But now even with the lair having a finite number of mobs if you kill the elder 128m away another elder will spawn at the lair. They're good for about 3.9k xp per kill grouped.

Still trying to find a new creature to hunt for melee.

I'm not going to pick on anyone in particular, but I don't see what is preventing people from hunting. I don't do it very often since there is no reason, but sometimes I hunt without my pet just to see what everyone complains about and see if it is really that hard. I typically hunt Bols or longneck somethingorothers on Dantooine and this is how my fight (without pet) goes:

Arm FT and shoot target that is far enough from others to not bring a friend. Target charges. Plink target on way in. Flamesingle2 at 20m and immediately equip VKs. Take beating from mob for 5 seconds (my special wait time). Stim-B. Equip PL for warning shot followed immediately by suppressive fire. Equip FT and finish mob off.

Okay there are times when I can't get warning shot to work and suppressive fire to hold them in place. For those times, I take my beating with PL in hand doing no specials so I can stim-b myself when needed as I wait for fire dot to do the killing. That is if I want HW exp. Personally I am working on unarmed, so normally I just melee instead. Now, if you miss flamesingle you are in big trouble, but not dead. I normally try suppressive fire with PLwhile running in a circle (can't run far on adventure planets or you get more baddies).

Also, I have said it many times, and most people are disagreeing with me, but I never take hits that are 2.5x normal because I unequip my FT once in melee range. I don't use it even if my pet has aggro and I am only 10m away from the mob... all it takes is a minor warp and I will get hit for 500 damage. Unequip the FT and move beyond 15m to plink at the mob (if you have a pet). If you don't have a pet, after you get flamesingle on the mob, do not equip your FT again in the fight.

Lastly, just because I say I hunt fine even with the 2.5x modifier, does not mean I think it needs to stay.

For combat xp I like to use a grenade followed by healthshot 1 and 2 with my launcher pistol, then press peace on mountain worrts on tat. They give about 1500 combat xp this way For other types of exp I run around in the mountains of tat until I find a pack of rock beetles. I can get about 20k pts of weapon exp per nest and can almost one shot them with flame 2.

Ancient weapons and hokey religions are no match for a rocket launcher in your backpack.

That's the problem, we need medic now....bye bye 15 more skill points (more if you want to make them instead of wasting even more money)....and the LP isn't very accurate or fast enough to be doing pistol specials with like you were doing....you would miss more then you said you were....and the falmer special range is 16m not 20m like you say you used it at.....and even if you unequip the flamer and let the mob pound on you after you fire a special you still get the 2.5x mod against you

Like I said in the bottom, people tell me i am wrong, I lied, etc, but I know exactly what is working for me and am trying to give other people a chance to try it. To address your comments, the LP is accurate enough to do the specials I stated and get hits and specials off. Personally I used LP exclusively to get from novice to flame 3, it was then that I switched to FT. I also said that I did miss, I just left out how much. I also use a speed and damage powerup on my LP, if that helps explain any. As far as /flamesingle2 special range, it is 16m, however I have found that with my connection (cable), if I press my /flamesingle2 hotbutton at 20m when a target is charging me, it gets put in the combat queue and actually lands at 15m. Therefore when I say that I /flamesingle2 and unequip my FT, by the time the mob reaches me, not only has it been softened up, it also has a flame DOT on it. Lastly, as far as getting pounded by the 2.5x modifier. If you do exactly what I described above, I have experienced that you get hit for normal damage (no multiplier). Note that I am not a master commando, I am merely 0440. Your experience may vary from mine based upon FT skills, however I would expect a master to be able to duplicate what I have done.

As far as avoiding the 2.5x melee penalty, you must have dropped your FT before a mob gets within melee range. For most mobs this is 10m. The problem is that with client side latency etc, the melee range of creatures can grow to nearly 15m. You have to anticipate and judge your connection and ability to press hotbuttons for this to work. For the nay-sayers out there, I say, go try it. If it does not work, tell me so. I know that I can just say "you didn't do it right," but I am not here to get some ego trip. I am here attempting to help people avoid a modifier that I don't agree with.

Please read my whole post before you flame me!!!
