First...ahem
Picked up my acid rifle...tada...NOT certified. WHO HOOO!
Then I examined it to look at the new descriptors.
SUPER. They've REMOVED the listing of Ideal range.
Picked up my flamethrower (mind you have I have flame 4) and attacked with flamesingle2.
Missed.
Tried again.
Missed.
Tried again.
Hit for 575! LEET.
Then I died. SO I don't know just how much dmg the dot does.
Get back to you with more.

Picked up my launcher pistol.
Attacked a corellian butterfly. Got heavy weapons xp.
Granted I missed a whole lot more with it than I used to, since it no longer uses pistol skills for accuracy.

i find that i am kicking the crap outta things with my launcher pistol, and yes, getting HW exp. I am certified with my acid rifle. Not sure why you are having an issue. Let the good (ok - not so good, but getting better) times roll...

Killed a dark blue and got full combat xp. Not just 1.
On another note. The commando trainer in Kor Vella is now surrounded by swoopers who hate me.

And no these are not the same npcs at the trainer in Kor Vella.
They are swoopers who con white or dark blue to me.

I can now loot while in battle. Used to be it wouldn't let if you were fighting.

All the flamethrowers I've seen have a pretty low min damage (mine is 30-260), so it is possible that when you used flame single 2 the 575 damage was on the low end, next time (if you havetn tried it alreaady) might do 1200 for all we know. Flame single before easily had that much variation. Also let us know how flame cone performs.

They've added a letter I over the heads of npcs that give quests.

Found a bug with lightning beam cannon... It gives off ACID damage instead of kenetic or heat or blaster
