And this is a rough sketch. In the larger picture, Some DoT changes are going in right away and some more with the next publish.

Like I have said before and many people agree, any of the bleeds and burns are simply overpowered since they don't take protection into consideration as well. I hope this means that if something is 100% energy resistant then it's impossible to bleed them with energy weapons. Likewise it'd be nice to see heat resistance mean that the burning DOT is weakened appropriately as well.

Of course they'd better fix the HAR in the process or the commando is going to struggle more.

Man, are you not happy until you gut the only working weapon we have? Yeah, lets screw up the flame thrower so that the only other viable weapons we have are the HAR which SUCKS and the underpowered launcher pistol.
The wounding is a bit over the top, I'll admit that. But save your nerf herding for when they fix the rest of the profession.

All bleeding style DOT attacksare overpowered. The only reason you like the flamer is because of this oversight, I've used the weapon alot and it's allowed me to take a CL18 critter to tank for me against a Forsaken Force drifter and I won the fight with relative ease not because of the damage i was causing from the flamesingles and cones but due to the burns. I should NOT be able to solo something like that myslef with a low level pet.

As long as they repair the other commando weapons at the same time as addressing the DOT issue then there's no reason to be concerned. Just for once stop looking at what you'll lose and think about game balance please.

Yes, the DOT is overpowered. But any nerf brought in before fixes, means that we have NOTHING that works, so I can't favor any nerfs.

Being in favor of the DOT being "fixed" without knowing exactly what other "fixes" are being implemented AT THE SAME TIME AS A NERFto add to the viability of the profession, is simply not wise. SOE does have a track record here, and is well known to nerf first, fix at a much later date, and that is simply not an acceptable solution.

I've had many professions I've dabbled in, DE and BE being a few of them. I have yet to see many fixes to either of those professions, but I've surely seen a lot of nerfing done to them. Promises of future fixes, will not make me support a nerf, since those promises may be a LONG way off. Ask anyone still doing DE or BE how they feel about promised fixes (and you know BE well Tal-N) and when they feel they may actually see some.

The only chance we have is the flame thower. If they NERF that then we are screwed.

HAR's do not work, neither do grenades, they miss 9 times out of 10.

Why must we all bitch about that kind of stuff? Like god forbid that we are able to be stronger than another class? What are we gonna do nerf everything until we are all as powerful as an artisan? Smart.

Treat others the way you would like to be treated.

Well lets just keep one thing very firmly in our mind here folks, every enemy in the game is now weaker than it ever was and the devs are going to be turning their attention to the players weapons now. Given that the weapons were designed for the old system they are currently even more powerful than they ever was. The T21 with its heavy armor piercing... it's hardly worth it now since not many mobs have heavy armor anymore. In the case of our heavy weapons which have alot of AP qualties they're going to be causing significantly more damage.

There is only one way from here.. every weapon in the game is going to be nerf'd without exception and the commando's are going to seem to be hit the hardest since we have the greatest powered weapons in our profession. The DOTs are just the first phase of a global weapons nerf so don't get too optimistic that things will stay as they are.

Flamethrowers cause 5th degree burns and should cause massive wounds, but it should only last until you are incapped.

DO NOT TOUCH THE DoT UNTILL YOU FIX MY OTHER WEAPONS!!!

Show me you are capable of FIXING something, before you go messing with something that works. I know you can break thingsm you have proven that point. So leave it alone, until you can actually fix what is broke.

Do not touch that DoT.

As long as the HAR is fixed by the time this is implemented I've no qualsm with it. Admit it, the fact that the flamethrower DoT doesn't check resists is absurd. A mob with 100% fire resistance shouldn't be effected by it at all. I don't think anything other than the AT-ST will have resists like that anymore anyways.

Although this is a change for the good, it is not good for the commando profession in the short term. As everyone has mentioned, if they make resistances work before fixing commando weapons, the profession will be ruined until it's weapons are fixed. That said, you had better start looking into an alternate combat profession until that time comes.

5th degree? Thats a new one...I have to agree with others, fix my other weapons before you nerf my FT. As it stands right now a pistoleer/smuggler can outdamage our FT anyways. Regardless of DOT's. Really, commandos are supposed to be "Elite" and cause more damage than any other class. Are you forgetting the 2.5 damage mod when we run around with the FT, alowing us to be killed in one hit by any half decent melee attack? So even to apply our DOT we need to get into the "kill zone" for us. And as far as creatures with 100% heat resistance, it does not make them fire proof. I know I have gone over it before....A solution to that would be maybe lessen the damage of the intitial blast (witch it already does) and maybe decrease the DOT a bit. But everything.. and I mean everything will burn when it hits a certain temprature ( or at least have some type of chemical change ie: liquid to gas, solid to liquid, ect. )

Im tired of hearing oh commando's are overpowered blah blah... no, we are not. We are underpowered. Fix my other weapons and stop screaming for nerfs...If you want balance go play a FPS where everyone runs around with the same character. Thats all I have to say about that.

so what your trying to say is that an elite profession with the highest powered weapons isnt allowed to take on a 15k ham elite mob ,well you need to go and wash your face ,rub the sleep from your eyes and wake up to a few simple facts ,

elite profession ch has the ability to take out a krayt

an imperial pvper has the ability to take out a krayt

elite bh has the ability to take out a 15k ham mob

i could mention the other combat skills but i wont because i want to mention the other facts that have to be considered too like the 2.5x mellee nerf , the very sneaky stealth to hit ratio nerf , the har nerf , the grenade nerf , the heavy weapons nerf , it all adds up to a few simple facts soe does not like comando's .

in my estimation of soe is this if your an imperial you wont get your atst taken from pve

if your a bh you wont get nerfed , and to be honest i havnt seen a bh nerf yet , but enlighten me if there has been one , and dont call the armor fixes a bh nerf for gods sake lol .

so putting in a dot nerf on weapons will effect the comando in such a way that he wont be able to kill a kreetle soon (even though it takes 7 shots most of the time to hit one)

so my advise is to go imperial be a human (3 atst) and then become a bh ,wow the most powerful proffesion regardles of a dot nerf or not , oh and one other thing i am master comando on wanderhome i have stayed as one in the hope that we will get a decent crack at being elite and not worse than the marksman tree.

I don't think that the fire DoT should be nerfed per se, but rather I think a more efficient solution is to take resists into effect when considering whether something actually catches fire or not. If I fire flame single 2 at a nightsister, there should be only a slim chance that she will actually catch fire. If she does catch fire, the DoT should do significant damage, since she is, in fact, on fire. This seems much more logical to me, as opposed to a broad nerf of the flame DoT in general.

My opinion is, and has always been, that game balance is not really the solution to the problem. SWG isa game built on diversity of characters, and as such, it is fitting that there are characters that should be substantially more powerful than others. By balancing everything out, we would all be playing the exact same character, differing only in the title above our heads. By definition, commandos should be powerful. I'm not advocating that we should be overpowered, but as far as fighting classes go, we should rank among the top few. Most of us have travelled the route of commando with thoseexpectations, and I think that is why there is a great feeling of dread when discussion of nerfing the flame DoT comes around.
