Thread: I heard a rumor Combat balance is another 6 months away!

Well...that would be the first time I've heard that...so, since the Devs haven't said anything to us, I'd doubt it's true...
What I have heard is that following JTL, the Revamp (and all that goes with it) is the only thing on their plate...so knowing that, I'm thinking the revamp will start it's motion first week or two in November (JTL is suppose to launch at the end of this month)...
The only reason I could see a Revamp delay at this point is if JTL get's delayed...Otherwise, I guess it's possible that the Revamp programming, testing and tweaking could take awhile, but I'd hope less then 3 months and I'd severely hope that the Sandbox would be up within a month of the release of JTL (maybe sooner depending on how ready they are at the end of the month)...
If I hear anything I'll let you all know, but for now, I'd discount this as another panic causing rumor...nothing more...

It is not said but I have a feeling the CR will not be untill mid 2005 or 2006. Just the way that SOE is going I feel that it will take 90% of the player base to get fed up with JTLS and leave the game for them to actualy do something about it.
With their past track record I might be inclined to believe that, but knowing that they have nothing else major on their plate besides the Revamp, I can't think of a good reason they'd put it off...And, while the Revamp will take time since it is pretty massive, I doubt it will take that long...
If the Devs were still working on Jedi spefically or if the SWG staff were to be divided between SWG and JTL (they aren't...there will be a seperate JTL group to deal with bugs and such) then I would feel a bit pessimistic that yet another delay could creap in like has in the past (all the delays in the past came from multiple things being on their plate) but really, all the upcoming projects fit into the Revamp (like the Smuggler Revamp, the SL Revamp, etc)...and the Devs have already said that non Combat Profession revamps will come AFTER the Combat Revamp...so, it feels to me like their plate will be fairly cleared once JTL launches...
So the big question is...Will JTL get released on time? I think it will be...but you never know...

Well whats the deal with lucas arts and sony now? On Lucas Art's website, they are advertising a job position to be director of operations for Star Wars Galaxies.
Did lucas finally get fed up with having the star wars named associated with this product? i sure as hell would be
Lucas has one thing going for him. and that is continuity and specifics about every planet and species and weapons etc etc. There are books, movies, millions of webpages and roleplayers and people that dress up as star wars characters etc etc. HUGE Fan Base and they are true to sticking to specifics about the races and the timeline.
Now comes along this game, and TOTALLY throws off his continuity! like just totally. i mean, nightsisters, billions of jedi running around, mandolorian armor and the bunker etc etc. Just seems too many indescrepancies in his timeline for sony to continue developing the game like this.
I addressed this in another post about a couple of days ago and GarVa already responded to the rumor publically...it's just a rumor...nothing more...
Lucas Arts is hiring for a position that ALREADY exists which means that either someone has gotten promoted or is moving elsewhere...The thing is with any MMO, anytime any company connected to the game posts for a higher up position the rumors start to fly and some people unfortunately get taken in by them...
As for continuity, that's a whole different discussion and debate probably best saved for a different swg forum...I will say this much...1) It's a game...just enjoy it for what it is...a Star Wars themed MMO adventure... 2) It has always been speculated in the Star Wars universe that many Jedi went into hiding at the end of episode III (we'll have to wait and see...and I've heard rumors that the Jedi in game may have reasons to go in hiding eventually [insert evil laugh here] ) and what we saw in the movies, read in the books, etc doesn't account for everything going on everywhere in the Star Wars Universe... 3) Everything thing that goes into this game from art to even dialog is approved by Lucas's people...and since he's the bossman when it comes to Star Wars, his might, I guess, makes itright...

The problem, as I see it, is one of credibility. SOE has very little with the SWG community. When people see things like what is happenong with the Lucas Arts stuff rumors will start. When the Development cycle "In Concept" and "In Development" remain empty , why wouldn't people think the worse. For example, why isn't JTL stuff listed as in Development. If nothing is in these areas, is it because SOE WILL NOT be doing any more developmnet on SWG?
You can see now that the total lack of info has contributed to growing number of rurmors.
BTW -- People closest to the program will never know the truth. My manager was always told that there was No merger in the works and No layoffs. Then they send him out town and do those very things. I am sure many people are familar with that tactic.

Garvin say it ain't so!!!
As much as Garvin disagrees with me, I think you are about right...
First, take a look at the Dev's penchant for missing target dates...
Second, lets look at it this way:
- JTL to be launched end of October...Maybe...
- Full month of November to take care of game-breaking bugs (you know its going to have it) that were brought up in beta, but never fixed.
- December is spent getting the sandbox ready
- January, the Sandboxers do their thing
- February is spent by the devs tweaking the results of the sandbox
- March, the changes are put on TC
- April, maybe, it goes live
- May is spent fixing the bugs players begged to be fixed on TC, but weren't. Dancer/Fencer rules the world.
So...It is now the beginning of October...You basically have all of October, then November, December, January, February, March, and finally April 1st (Fools Day? LOL) before we see it Live. That's 6 months by my count.
Garvin, I know you say a different team will be working on JTL post launch issues than will be working on the CB/R...But, I get the sneaky suspicion (/whistles I am a beta tester for JTL) that the launch version of JTL is going to suffer a flameout. Thus, the full team will still be needed for JTL fixes...
Earmark this post. I would be willing to bet 1 million credits to anyone on Ahazi server that this holds true.

Also, will JTL be as buggy as everyone fears on release?
BTW, are you playing JTL beta?

The key thing to remember (for your November) is that the people working on the JTL bugs will not be SWG staffers...instead the SWG staffers working on JTL will return to SWG to work on the Revamp and lead the JTL team to work on JTL issues by themselves...at least that's how it was explained to me...
That's why I think we'll be in the Sandbox in some fashion by the end of November...and if all goes well, we could see the Sandbox hit TC by mid December (all depends on how well the tweaks and balances go)...The are working on the Sandbox hardware now (that much they've confirmed)...
So, your right...I disagree with the pessimisim...I'm hoping for the best...and I know our Sandbox testers will do a great job hopefully leading to a quick transition...
Unfortunately I can't confirm whether I'm in the JTL beta because of the JTL NDA
