and remember, SOE will keep lying to you when they say that they arent sacrificing any resources to develop or support JTL.

Because those same resources and programmers couldve been used TO FIX THE DAMN GAME as it was instead of making another bug-ridden content-lacking grind-demanding add-on product.

'Foolish boy. Don't you know anything about Fantasia? It's the world of human fantasy. Every part, every creature of it, is a piece of the dreams and hopes of mankind. Therefor, it has no boundaries.'
'But why is Fantasia dying then?'
'Because people have begun to loose their hopes and forget their dreams. So the nothing grows stronger. It's the emptiness that's left. It's like a despair, destroying this world. And I have been trying to help it.'
'But why?'
'Because people who have no hopes are easy to control. And whoever has control has the power'

I can't believe that people were up and posting serious stuffat 2:00am. LOL.

Anyway, Ihave to agree with Garvin's logic. I don't think that the CR will take more than 3 months to publish once JTL goes live. That's got to be Goal #1 after JTL. They have to bevery aware that the fan base is becoming increasingly frustrated. If they work on the three big issues (Space, Ground Revamp and Civil War) and get them all out to us (stable)within a year, then they can reasonably expect their game to go on for a long while...but if the game is in a similar broken state next October, then theywill probably have to get shovel ready cause they may have to get ready to dig a big old grave. They know that the game's future success will be dependent on these publishes.

The key thing to remember (for your November) is that the people working on the JTL bugs will not be SWG staffers...instead the SWG staffers working on JTL will return to SWG to work on the Revamp and lead the JTL team to work on JTL issues by themselves...at least that's how it was explained to me...

That's why I think we'll be in the Sandbox in some fashion by the end of November...and if all goes well, we could see the Sandbox hit TC by mid December (all depends on how well the tweaks and balances go)...The are working on the Sandbox hardware now (that much they've confirmed)...

So, your right...I disagree with the pessimisim...I'm hoping for the best...and I know our Sandbox testers will do a great job hopefully leading to a quick transition...

Is the Sandbox hardware going to be different than the live server hardware? If so, why? That doesnt make much sense.

I too, Garvin, am hoping for the best. But I think you are misconstruing my pessimism. Its not that I dont think you guys wont do a bang up job in the testing area, its that I have very little faith in the devs to actually pull off what they are attempting to pull off. Their history of delays, not to mention blatantly lying to the paying player base has jaded me quite a bit. I'll will be more than happy to eat crow, if I am wrong.

If anyone wants to put a 1 million credit bet that the CB/R wont hit the live servers until April, the offer still stands.

All right.

Ya know? If you do a search on Combat Balance (same animal, different name), you'll find post's from last year. You'll find post's here as late as even January 2004. Wait, wait, wait. I'm patient...fairly cool headed. Optomistic. Enthusiastic..bla bla! I'm a team player and I'm on the Commando side of Star Wars Galaxies. We've all seen SOE's slight of hand and delt with it time and time again. All in hopes for a better future. All in hopes of light at the end of a seemingly eternal dark tunnel. Dedication! We have that! We have always had that.

There was a SWG profession wide and general "Blow-up" after the most loyal customers found out that the Comabt Balance "promised land" was being delayed until after Sony Online Entertainment's "promised land", JTL, wascast out into a new pond for fresh fish. Fine! We wait...we are used to it. We are used to a lot, but then!!!! The Coorespondant Summet comes along and our own! OUR OWN will face them. In person no less!

That old, dried out carrot, that has been hung in front of our faces for so long will be snatched away and we will see results! Information will trickle out in a Friday Feature...maybe it will take a few days. Maybe a few weeks. "They [the devs] are gunshy and want to get this right". Understood! If I continually decieved the people who support me, never had constructive communication, and took them for granted....I would be gunshy as well. Not the point here.

The point is that SOME information was hinted to...nothing except hints for over a Month! Nothing except silencing people, like me, who have ideas to make Commando better....because the Revamp will "Change Everything".

How will it change everything!? I have a good idea...but do I like it? Do I love it? How should I know? How should we know? It's the same thing as before exept Garvin supports it. I'm fine with that...but how long do the Coorespondants and the devs have to bang things out for us to see? To me, it seems our Profession as Commandos according to the "Doc's" we hear of so often, have been taken care of by Garvin. Looking at other forums, things have been submitted and Banged out. No Docs...after a Month and no mention of them...no "Trickle". Now it's the sandbox...what's next? Sandbox2?

The truth is (IMHO) that SOE is forcing out JTL to compete with the other MMORPG billed to release in the near future. Cut that dusty old [Combat Balance] carrot up into several sections...feed them to OUR guys, let them eat it...and hang a nice fat new one that they can share with us [loyal Commandos and players]. But they can't share it yet...not yet! If there is such a grand plan...If there was such a grand plan presented in August, and the correspondents had to work with the devs to "tweak" this wonderful plan and dumb it down for us...Where is it?

Something is rotten. AND I have a feeling many Commandos who don't have to read a JTL NDA,like some of us, will be paying for a beta version of space, pushed to the store shelves. Bugs...bugs and..bugs..that have been submitted time and time agian.

Six months for Combat Revamp to hit live? Six months for it to be tested by players who dream of better future? That's more then reasonable. But, the way things are going, Commandos will sit, open, wait, and then take our medicine without any input. Just like always. Be a good Commando and don't spit... Swallow it!

Bah!

....Hang in there Commandos...

Slainte' to you!

To pass the time I recomend these fun activities:

Run a guild

Run a town

Run both at a same time

Get married to a crazy person

Become a slave in an annual SPA Slave Auction (Valcyn only...my architect forced against my will!!!)

Become an interior decorator

Go to the most popular commando alt, Architect, and create something constructive

Get married again

Own a wookiee who owes you 6,750,000 credits

Have a RL

Get good grades in school

Have fun with other games (ie Battlefront)

List goes on and on....anyways, no real point save...don't pin all your hopes waiting for this...put the commando woes on the backburner for a bit, and enjoy what you have, can do, or what you want to get done (unless forced against your will...beh, gonna be bought by Lilith for 2 hours and forced to decorate her homes!). We'll eventually see those documents...eventually...in the meantime, theres bigger fish to fry.

As far as I've heard, the Sandbox hardware won't be different, but it will be seperate...bascially they are recreating the entire game environment without impacting any of their current hardware...this means they had to order and set up all new hardware...and because they aren't recreating things on the same scale that runs the current system, they can't have as much independent action going on (the reason why the sandbox is being limited on testers)...they are currently working on increasing or improving the hardware they are going to be using with the sandbox testing to allow us to bring in even more testers...whether they'll accomplish that or not remains to be seen...Personally, I'd rather not sacrifice Sandbox Server stability to bring in more people (stability issues could lead to further delays)...

It's not that I have any more faith in the system then you...we've all been burned on more then one occasion...and it's not the fact that I've seen the docs or the fact that I've spoken with the Devs & Programmers directly that makes me more optimistic then some...it's the fact of what's happened in the past that caused the delays compared to what they "have planned" in the future that will be different...

Everytime the Devs have delayed a project in the past they were juggling multiple projects (JTL, Jedi, Revamp, Creature Handlers, Droid Engineers, etc)...They never had just one of those projects that they were focusing their attention on...they split their focus in many different directions...

For the most part, the main brunt of Jedi is done...there will always been tweaks and fixes going on, but the Devs have said that the main push of work is done with them for now...and JTL will have it's own staff to work on updates and bugs...So that leaves SWG with their focus solely on the Revamp...that's what they've repeatedly told us...That's where the majority of their focus will be once JTL launches...and it should help that the kidnapped SWG staff that is working on JTL will be returning to work on the SWG and the Revamp...That's were my feeling of optimism is coming from mostly...it's coming from the fact that this time, things actually could be different and maybe they've learned from their mistakes in the past...

Nothing of course is guarenteed and everything is always subject to change, but I really believe the devs received a HUGE wake up call after the big blow-up with the last Revamp delay...They knew it was a critical issue before the blow-up, but that big blow up made them realize they can't juggle things AND make this revamp work...They know that players aren't going to continue to accept things as they are...
