Thread: VOTE: your favorite idea for a new weapon

ok so lets just imagine the devs show us some love and we are given a free skill line, if you were only able to have one weapon to fill that empty skillline with what would it be?


1) Launcher Pistol

2) E-Web

3) Unarmed Tactics

4) Assualt Rifle/Carbine

5) Grenade Launcher


i know everyone has alot of good ideas about what would be cool, but the options listed above seem to be the most popularly thrown around ideas on the boards, thus making them the most likely to be considered by the devs so please only post your vote for one of the five above.


i will periodically check and tally the votes so we can see where the communtity stands.


so to get things started i'll cast my vote for number 5, a grenade launcher would be great to load our desposible grenades into to help increase our range and accuracy with them.


so what does everyone else think?

Repeater blaster. I don't know if that would go under "assault rifle" or "e-web". Point is I'd prefer something unique to commando, not a weapon which mainly benefits another profession because they get more skill with it than us, something that only gets skills and abilities through the commando profession. And something that qualifies as a heavy weapon. You know, sort of like a star wars machinegun.

4) Assault CARBINE

Trust me guys, we dont' want a rifle... They're getting speedcapped higher here soon, no more 1 shot/sec specials and crap. Our flamethrower and other heavy weapons are alreayd slow as heck, I say we get a carbine to even things out.


I would go for unarmed tactics, but I don't believe we need anything else in that close melee range... again, we have the flamethrower for that. Commando's are supposed to be versatile, with the addition of the assault carbine, we could attain this versatility. We could fight at distance, and then use our flamers in special, close quarter situations (rather than all the time as we do now).


I think the E-web would be cool, but I just don' think we'd pull as much use out of it as we think we would. I feel that with this being a star wars game, we should get a weapon that we use all the blinkin time as our staple weapon, such as the assault carbine. The E-web, only being setup at bases, etc. would be very limited in situational uses, etc.


With the grenade launcher idea, I think it would be a cool idea, but instead, I personally wouldn't cry a bit if they just nixed grenades altogether and threw the E-web in their place. Then we could have our situational E-web, our staple carbine, and our special CQB flamer and HAR.


As for the Launcher Pistol... well... it causes lots of lag... that's about it. We've been replaced as the blast damage dealers, I don't think this weapon has too much of a commando feel to it, and I don't know that it really belongs in Star Wars... more like a ratchet and clank type thing to me. Again, if this disappeared, I wouldn't complain.



*****Edit again!****** Just read in another post a brilliant idea... the combo of 2 weapons. Basically, we could have a grenade launcher be added into the game, but as an OPTIONAL COMPONENT of our assault carbine. Basically, it would work like a fishing rod. You drop a set of grenades into it, and have a "special attack" that makes you launch a grenade from there rather than throwing from another stack. It could enhance the grenades to have the full max 64m distance, with good mods all around accuracy wise, and lower their speed a touch. This would be a REALLY nice way to hang on to grenades, give us our new special staple weapon, and also enhance our versatility on the battlefield.

A carbine would be nice. Namely if it gets high AP. I just burn up those heavy weapons too fast.

I was thinking more of an Assault Cannon, assault rifle sounds like a rifle or carbine and the cannon should use heavy weapon mods (not carbine or rifle). The gun should be like the heavy weapons they used in Episode 2, the repeating ones. Heavy AP and huge speed with good damage, drawback=accuracy. It should replace the acid tree, I would also add the E-web as a mountable heavy weapon if possible.


Perhaps like this:


Field tactics - Launcher pistol with mods and specials (LP is kinda like a grenade launcher), and the throwing weapons.

Heavy weapons - Looks ok as it is, could use more accuracy mods

Shock weapons - Flamer and acid rifle with specials and better accuracy

Heavy assault - Assault Cannon and E-web with specials and mods


I dont want to have to grind another profession out just to make one of our weapons better, we should be able to use all our weapons equally well and not have to take up pistoleer, carbineer or rifle to enhance only one of them.

#4 - Assault Weapon for all around ranges.


-Anything fully automatic with muzzle flash and kinetic sounds/animation

I'd like the Assault carbine because of the speed and damage capeabilities...and if they gave us something like ion or cold damage i think it would be very unique. and personally I think it could only benifit us if it was also able to use in conjunction with master carbineer. Many people nowmaster pistoleer for the specials and mods for it...same could be done w/ this assault carbine, but it also have mods and skills for us.

That would force us to choose to specialise in one commando weapon, kinda sucks to have to do that.

I just thought of something, what about something like the imperial heavy repeater from jedi knight 2? its fast, powerful and fits as a commando weapon. Actually jedi knight 2 has alot of cool looking starwars weapons that should be in game.
