Thread: Something needs to be done about the Insane amounts of xp now!

Earlier this evening i was invited to a group, the leader was after people who could do area attacks, so I being almost master carbineer joined up.

There were 3 Jedi in the group and the rest was made up with level 70+ people, it was also a full group of 8.

I was hoping to finish off both my master carbineer box, which i need 700k xp, and my master commando box which i needed 300k xp for.

After just one hour i had got approx 1.1million xp!!!

Now how can any rational person say that this is alright, surely something needs to be done, and done properly.

I know the DEVS altered the xp and I have to say I wasnt happy at first, but now i see it was the right move and should have been stuck to.

The problem with a lot of people is that they want the quick fix, the easy life, short cuts... in short like they do in real life!

Please let me know how you feel about what i have said please

Thankyou

Also why the hell would you want to be able to grind a full elite prof in a couple of days maximum??

I would counter with teh question: Why shouldn't you be able to? Maybe if there was some directed content that advanced you (rather than requiring you be of a certain level to do it) I might advocate a slower progression rate, but since CL in this game is nothing more than a content cut-off, I see no reason at all not to expedite it.

see the problem is two fold. There is a lot of content for mid level players, actually quite a bit. Most people just miss it because they get too focused on getting from 0 to 80 in as little time as possible. So the game fails in directing new players to mid level content. By the time you get there it is too easy and the loot is nothing a CL 80 would want, but would serve a CL20 fine. You cant blame the players it is just the way the game has turned out. A CL 1 character shouldnt even be at the MO on Dantooine, but given that they start with 75000 credits now or JTL there is no stopping them. So once they hear about the grind groups and the MO it is all downhill from there.

The other problem is veteran players. Most of us might want to switch our template up a bit fromtime to time, or have already experienced most of the content and are rolling a new character. So we just want to get there, we know the journey, we just want to be done. It is frustrating as a vet to think that you would like to try another prof, but have to grind it out for three weeks. At which point your reason for even doing that prof may have changed.

SOE should work on directing noobs to the lower content where they will have lots of fun interacting with people their same level. I think XP gain in this game is insanely fast. I dont really want to change it, but they need to address the whole "all we do is grind" style of play that this game has become.

I like the insane xp because I like to be able to change my professions quickly. Insanely fast xp functions as a quick tutorial on how to survivs as "Profession X" and then you can go enjoy the content again. I don't regard the grind as content personally, some do, and thats fine, you always have the option of surrendering the box 100 times or however many times you think would be appropriate to punish yourself. I grind so that I can go have fun, I don't grind for fun.

This:

"The problem with a lot of people is that they want the quick fix, the easy life, short cuts... in short like they do in real life!"

...is a lecture.

If you want to keep new players from leveling too quickly (for whatever reason) then make it so that players can't gain experience in groups with players 10 levels higher than they are. That's how other games fix it.

What's the problem with getting fast experience?

Considering ALL of the content in the game, sans space and ground random missions, require you to be CL 80 (and most require you to be in a group.)

I've played Everquest, I know what a grind is, so don't bother with the lecture. When Star Wars Galaxies boasts as much content for all level ranges as Everquest, THEN it can have as bad a grind. Until then, I see no problem with levels 1 through 80 being nothing more than a week-long tutorial.

Oh Yeah... And that'll solve everything, sure.

What about if you join a guild.. so that"ll mean you might not be able to group with your guildmates..

Great Idea!!!!

If you sit and think about it though, the xp gain is not really that fast for new players. As a level 60+ player, you will gain xp pretty quickly. But as a level one player, until you start getting up to lvl 25-30 or so, you don't get that good of xp, even in a group. I'm working with some personal friends right now and trying to get them up in level. In a group of 5 players, me and another at lvl 80 and 3 between lvl 20-30, the lvl 80s are getting about 5-6k per kill where as the ones in the 20-30 range are getting 1-2k per kill. So even though I could drop a complete elite profession and regring to lvl 80 in a day, players starting from scratch at lvl 1 still will take a good 5-7 days of hard grinding.

I'm a casual player and only get to play about 4 hours a day, 3 days a week. Do you think I want to spend a week to regrind one of my elite profs or get it over with in a day so that I may continue with what little content is in the game? That's a rhetorical question by the way.

One of the main reasons they tried to cut the xp was not to keep normal professions from grinding quickly but to slow down the number of Jedi coming in and the number of Jedi advancing. Other things could have been done such as change the conversion rate at the village to be higher. Make the amount of xp that a Jedi needs to get doubled or possibly the xp that they get less than it is now. This would only server to make all the Jedi mad however so I'm not sure SOE wants thousands of Jedi threatening to quit. Possibly create a different, much harder way to unlock Jedi such as a time period or make it totally unknown and random. For example, let's say once a month they randomly pick 10 players on each server would unlock Jedi. This would slow down the number coming in dramatically.

But getting back on topic, there was no reason to change the xp rates in my opinion. But that's just my opinion.

By the way, im actually a CASUAL player, i only play for 3 hours at the most per day and not even every day now.

I altered my template recently and dropped to CL54, i managed to grind back up to CL80 in about 5 days.

Maybe Jedi or Jedi in waiting as it were could require a different kind of xp to the rest of us mere mortals. Though that would probably cause a hell of a lot more bugs and problems for the game, so maybe not.

I think the real problem is that the general attitude of (MOST) people, not helped by lack of content i may add, is to continually grind xp usually on their way to JEDI. Its like an addiction to the class 'A' drug 'XP' and i think we may need to go into rehab.

Suppose ill get flamed for this, but i couldn't care less.

no doubt, i'm a master carbineer and i capped 2 times this weekend. 1.2mil xp each cap, is soe trying to make jedi a weekend long grind?? the massive number of people that already have jedi sucked the sweet right outta the idea, now we're just going to have that many more. think i'm giving up the fight to build stuff again.
